To be or not to be busy or not busy - that is the question.
Can We Hear?

Richard Albert (Baba Ram Dass) ~ The quieter you become, the more you can hear.
True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment." – William Penn

MEDITATION:

Quiet yourself.

Turn your attention to your hearing.

Pick up on the noises.

Separate them.

Breathe slow and deep.

Go down another level.

Listen.

What is that?

Focus on these sounds for a few breaths.

Now the best part.

Listen.

You can feel your heart beat can you hear it beat?

Continue to breathe.

That's the sound of silence.

It's Beautiful!

You can do this anywhere - any time. When you're in a stressful situation and others around you are stressed - that's a great time to do it.

In fact what I believe is that when you are silent that is when you hear the most. Check it out and she what I mean. When you can really hear nothing that is where true knowledge exists.

OPRAH:

I watched Oprah yesterday for a few minutes. It was about 'checked out' families.

What Would You Dare Live Without - April 17th Oprah.

I have known since my kids were little that this problem existed. It started with the Nintendo - PAC Man. They wanted to play on it for hours at a time. It was hard to get them to stop. To come eat. To talk. I realized that if I didn't do something right then and there there would be a problem. So I limited the amount they could play.

I thought back then if people used television, computers, and games all the time - I wondered what the communication between people would become to be like. Hence came the cell phones and texting. The personalization of relationships ---

There are all sorts of addictions. Addictions keep you from being in the moment - they keep you from experiencing the real world the pain part - they keep the feelings from coming out. They keep you fooled into a false security - just like eating.- I admit.

I call this the 'busy addiction' which I think we all have to an extent these days. On Oprah they had a few families change their habits and it changed their lives - they said they weren't going back!
Try giving up running around all the time, television, computers, cell phones - I shutter to even think about it myself! I do try to keep myself limited and rounded, it's hard. It's almost like we fear the silence.

One way to conquer is to to face silence and listen.

What a beautiful thought! I've found that silence...even if I can only find it in a bathroom in the midst of a busy work shift...is the balm for a disaster of a work day. You do a fantastic job here...thanks for the visit to my blog..and your comments....you inspire me to return the favors! Billie
