The Bridge Across Forever by RIchard Bach

"The Bridge Across Forever" a true love story, by Richard Bach.

Another 'book report' of sorts.
Some good quotes that I liked from this book:

"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true." page 30

"To bring anything into your life, imagine that it's already there." page 31

"There are no mistakes. The events we bring upon ourselves, no matter how unpleasant, are necessary in order to learn what we need to learn; whatever steps we take, they're necessary to reach the places we've chosen to go." page 82

"The best way to pay for a lovely moment is to enjoy it." page 125

Soul Mates Wanted:

"Wanted: a hundred percent man. Must be brilliant, creative, funny, capable of intense intimacy and joy. Want to share music, nature, peaceful joyful life. No smoking, no drinking no drugs. Must love learning and want to grow forever. Handsome, tall, slim, fine hands, sensitive, gentle, loving. Affectionate and sexy as can be. Must be emotional stable, honest and trustworthy and a positive constructive person. . . " page 155

"Wanted: a one hundred percent female guardian angel in human body, please. Independent, adventurous, extreme wisdom required. Prefer ability to initiate and respond creatively in many forms of communication. Must speak Horse-Latin. Only angels with glorious eyes, stunning figure and long golden hair need apply. Require curiosity, hungry capacity for learning. Prefer professional in several creative and business fields, experience in top management positions. Fearless, willing to take all risks. Happiness guaranteed in the long run." page 157

"Do you ever notice, after you've known someone for a while, how their appearance changes?
He can be the handsomest man in the world, but turns plains as popcorn when he has nothing to say. And the plainest man says what matters to him and why he cares and in two minutes he's so beautiful you want to hug him." page 158

"Because we believe the surface, we forget that surfaces aren't who we are." page 158

"A soul mate is someone who has the locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we're pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person we're safe in our own paradise. Our soul mate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction."

"Our soul mate is the one who makes life come to life." page 388

This book is the true love story about Richard Bach and Leslie Parrish.
A brief summary about R. Bach:
He was an airplane pilot.
He had been married once before and had six children. He then divorced and left his family in part because he didn't believe in marriage.
Since 1959 he had this idea of a bird learning to pass beyond the walls of limitations, Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
Almost all his books used airplanes as a way to pass the message.
Bach met his wife, Leslie Parrish through the shooting of the movie Jonathan Livingston Seagull in 1973, based on his book.
They went their way, far enough from Hollywood, somewhere between 1977 and 1981.
Finally, they got married in 81.
Recently Leslie and Richard got divorced.

I liked the book. Bach writes his feelings down - as he experiences them or at least how he remembers them happening. It's a book, about himself, his thoughts and feelings, and growth.

There was a section near the middle of the book - where he and Leslie were struggling together. She wanted to be closer and he didn't want to give up his freedom. Although by the end of the book he did give up his so called freedom - which surprised me - they got married and seemed to be very happy.

(Then I just had to look him up and found out that they got a divorce. Kind of disillusioned myself a bit.)

So what do you think about soul mates? Do they exist? Was Leslie his soul mate - even though they got divorced? Do soul mates last forever? Can you have two soul mates? Can you change soul mates during your life? What if you find out the person you married is not your soul mate? Is your soul mate still out there?

Weddings and love are on my mind these days......
Love,Chatty

This was thought provoking today. I read Bach's books decades ago, and forgot all about them. Thanks for the reminder. You have really, really deep thoughts lady!
I found a soul mate, briefly, at a time I needed that. It wasn't permanent, but it lives in the back of my head, and I'm thankful for what he gave me at the time. I soared, once in my life...and maybe, that was enough!

I had a similiar experience as well. You never do forget do you? I too was thankful for what he gave me - he actually kind of saved me at the time. I've always been grateful for that.
Would you ever like to feel that soaring feeling again? And is it possible? I'm not sure.
Yes, I am a deep thinker - can be good and bad (teehee)!

Just because they got divorced does not mean they aren't soul mates. If you've read his books then you know, if you are still alive your mission here is incomplete. Sometimes we need to be on our own to learn what ever is next. The bridge doesn't end but there may be off ramps and detours along the way.
