"Life is lived forward, but understood backward. It is not until we are down the road and we stand on the mountain looking back through the valley that we can appreciate the terrain God has allowed us to scale.” Jill Savage

Income Tax, Sugarland, It Happens

The Tax Poem

"At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of
it. Be sure to read all the way to the end.

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts ;
Anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
Upon his tomb,
'Taxes drove me
to my doom...'

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the
most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middleclass in the
world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. "

Good luck today and why do things happen the way they do?

Nothing could be more appropriate on this, our special day! I heard a smattering about a possible tax on each ounce of sugar beverage bought by consumers in certain states. They are trying to 'protect our health', kind of like the cigarette tax, and outlawing certain oils used in cooking at fast food resteraunts....What ever became of America the land of the Free? Not many free choices here any more.

Two sides to every story: Too many people began believing they were "owed" something by the government, and wanted someone else to pay for it. They also looked to the government and demanded care for their carelessness (smoking, drinking, eating bad foods). Carrying the freeloaders and the sharpers has cost our nation its greatness, but don't forget the words of Abe Lincoln: "People pretty much get the government they deserve."

It stings, but isn't it pretty much true? Why didn't we all "vote out" the lamebrains who started this trend way back when?

One reason: We were all busy living, of course, and those who make the laws -- because we are a nation of laws -- had a field day making up laws to hogtie us while we were busy leading lives, fighting wars, raising kids, feeding the world, and so on. And now with all those stupid laws on the books, we are hogtied in every way, we are caught in a big ol' spider's web so to speak, and IMHO, lawyers who don't know sh*t from shinola setting right in the middle of it.
