A balanced life ...

Beware the barrenness of a busy life. - Socrates and Chatty
Beware the barrenness of a idle life. Chatty

I think that a lot of people are so busy killing themselves - trying to do everything they think they 'should' do - that they never get around to do what they want to do. I also think that in the middle of our life we recognize this and this is called midlife crisis. What do you think?

I'm wondering how to define and how to get to the middle - not too busy and not to idle. It seems that there are periods of extreme business and extreme idleness. Busy with things we should do at times rather than the things we want to do at times. How do you say no?

And then if life gets to much idle time - loneliness can settle in.

So what's the answer and how do we get there?

Happy Birthday Yanni-

Yanni is a self-taught pianist who began his musical career by giving recitals for family members though he had no formal training and could not read a note. He was also a competitive swimmer in Greece and set a national record in the 50-meter freestyle competition .

He did something he wanted to do and he wasn't idle . . .

It's funny you should pose this question. Have you had a nanny cam installed in my house?? :p) Seriously, just a couple of months ago, I was feeling at the strained edge of the idle/lonely curve. Working from home. Now, employed full time (for a while)I wonder where I disappeared to? Is there a balance? In these times, I'm not sure. I think we're all peddling as fast as we can. But it's good to remember life exists outside of work. And as Depak says, "There is only this moment." :p)

hi chatty. Have been enjoying the humor and philosophy both on all your latest posts; just nothing original to say in a comment, but Thanks!

Could you let me know how to find your archived posts? I can't seem to locate a link. I was trying to tell someone about your monster mash post at Halloween time and it made me want to look at it again.

TIA

Love that piano stairs video. Sooo cool. What a great idea. So balance starts with knowing what your values are in life and then prioritizing the goals you then develop to complement those values. It's also about learning how to say "no" tactfully, but soundly. Once you know what your personal priorities are and attend to them, you feel less out of balance. You may discover that you're spending a lot of time doing non-value-added tasks once you have your values and prioritized goals right in front of you. It helps to write your values down and then under each value your goals. Try it!

I guess what you have to do - is to take time out to sit and prioritize your values and setting boundaries. Both are hard for me!

Wow. I think that I am nearing my mid-life. May be in it already... We are an army family and this is the first move where I have been referred to as, "one of the older ladies." Yikes. Anyways...I don't think that I have hit the times of idleness yet...I can't wait for those. Love your blog. Laura@the mansion
