Being real . . .

"All that is in the heart is written in the face." ~ African Proverb

Can you meet some one and know they have a great heart just by seeing their face? Can you tell if you'd want to be or could be great friends with them? Can you look into some one's eyes and see their soul?

How about as a blogger - are there just some that you know right away that you like and they have a soul or spirit similar to yours?

I mentioned this quote to my daughter - she says no - that most people hide who they are. That we wear masks. I say yes sometimes - I do think the eyes are the windows of the soul. You can see sadness there - joy - peace.

What do you think? Do you think you can tell a book by their cover or that people are hiding things?

"If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the christening of all children, I should ask that her gift to each child in the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last throughout life." - Rachel Carson

Man this has me thinking too - wouldn't that be wonderful to have? How do children lose their sense of wonderment? How do we get to be adults without it in tact? Is that the reason for mid life crisis?

Happy Birthday Katie Couric - Wikipedia - she's always had a real cute little happy face - with heart - I think anyway.

Couric married Jay Monahan in 1989. Couric had her first daughter, Elinor Tully "Ellie" Monahan, on July 23, 1991; her second daughter, Caroline "Carrie" Couric Monahan, was born on January 5, 1996. Jay Monahan died of colon cancer in 1998 at the age of 42; as a result, Couric is a prominent spokeswoman for colon cancer awareness. She underwent a colonoscopy on-air in March 2000, and, according to a study published by Archives of Internal Medicine (July 14, 2003), inspired many others to get checked as well.

Sandie, I have always felt like you can judge people by what is written on their face or by talking to them, but sadly I have been mistaken several times...I have to agree with your Daughter that some people mask who they really are and it is so sad, I don't understand why people can't just be open and honest and just be themselves.
I like to think most people are who they seem to be. I find I am a happier person that way. I love people and love being friends with everyone, and YES, I have met some that I know automatically we are friends from the soul...does that make since?
Hope you have a happy and blessed day.

I do believe most folks noways hide who they really are....they either want to be what you NEED them to be at any given moment, or don't KNOW who they really are, or have hidden agendas and want to USE YOU. I am ME, plain and simple. What you see is what you get, and it will never change. I'm happy with myself, and that is all that matters. I don't want to change, for anyone! Have a good day, my friend!

I have to agree with Molly...have been wrong more than once in my quick judgements but more right than wrong.

I think it really depends on the person, Sandie. Some people make it a point to hide who they are. Others are open. I think those who do hide are possibly hiding because they've been hurt or maybe even because they want to manipulate others. You know, the kind of person who smiles in your face and stabs you in the back. Or the kind of person who has been so hurt by others that they mask themselves behind a wall of bravado.

But I have always been much like a dog. I sense and know when someone is a good egg from the get-go. My intuition has always been a gift. There have been times I've been disappointed with people's behavior and even shocked, but when I think about it, I had a impression of them in the beginning that was spot on and chose to look beyond it. It's a risk we all take.

But I think God can give you spiritual eyes to see people, not only as they are, but as they can be. It's up to us to mine for the gold. That's the fun part. :-) And when we see people with their potential, it might just spur them on to reach it. Sounds like a plan! :-)

XO,

Sheila

I think you can find good in almost anyone if you expect the best. Of course you meet some people you don't click with and others you know are what I call kindred souls. I know most of us find bloggers we are drawn to and visit often because they have common intrests or we just enjoy who they are. Have a good day.

Hey Sandie!

I'm glad to see that you found a picture of a pug and a corgi together! That's cute!

I think there are a lot of people now adays trying to hide who they are. Most times I can see right through them. I'm not that way at all. I think that is why sometimes the people who are trying to hide things have a difficult time being around me.

Hope you have a Great Day!

Okay fellow blogger girls - you see - the ones who follow each others blogs - we all like to be real and to be with real people.

I thank y'all for answering me and giving an opinion. You learn something new every day. And it is never to late to learn!

I assume everyone is going to be friendly and honest until proven otherwise. Of course I am a little more guarded with personal information than that statement may sound, but most people respond to my openness and friendliness. I've been disappointed a few times, but I don't dwell on those people. There are many others to meet face to face and over the net. :)

Just like Popeye, I yam what I yam. :-D

I don't know about 'knowing' someone at first look, but I sense things about people pretty quickly. I seem to feel if someone is being dishonest or hiding something. I am pretty open myself and the vibes(for want of a better word) of others really resonate in me. I'm not always right, but my intuition about most people is correct. That said, I think you can find a kindred soul face to face or Blog to Blog!

Oh yes and I love Katie Couric!

I believe that it takes more than one meeting sometimes to see beyond the looks in eyes. The blog friends I have I feel are really good people because what is posted on their blogs.

Chatty -- I think you and your daughter are both right! As soon as you meet some people you feel like you've been friends forever. But you have to have a little bit of street smarts" too, because first impressions can be wrong. I'd like to think you could look into someone's eyes and just KNOW! Life would be easier.

On the other hand, we once knew one person who seemed pleasant enough but turned out to be quite bitter -- and (this is really true) babies and small children cried or hid whenever she came near. So maybe there is something to first impressions or gut feelings!

I'm thinking our hearts want to trust and feel safe - but we've been hurt before - so we tend to be more careful now.

How cool that you found a pug and corgi pic, together, when you admire both breeds. Cool beans!!
I think that faces and eyes tell a lot. Also believe in my gut feelings. I tend to be open until given a reason not to be....
If you like who you are, and accept who/what you are today, it's easier to be open, and honest. Who cares if somebody doesn't like you...there's always going to be that! But...the number of folks who are similar and like who you are, makes up for the couple who are turds.
Oops...did I say turds?

Hi Sandie....

Yep, food for thought, for sure. I love little ones and their imaginations too...it's always amazing to see what they can make out of a rock or a stick....and keep themselves entertained for hours? Oh, what I could do with a cardboard box as a kid. :-)

I agree that some people wear masks....but then you get a peek into who they really are....and are surprised, for sure. My very dearest and bestest friend FOREVER is VERY different than the person I thought she was when we met. I'm so glad I took time to get to really know her....she is a JEWEL. I try to live my life authentically .....it's so much easier. I'd rather be loved for who I really am than for what people think I might be.....it's too exhausting to put on airs.

Huggies and Lovies,

Sometimes people are hard to judge....And I agree sometimes people do mask whom they are. Sometimes when we meet people we ar mislead of confused by them. I try not to spend time analizing or judging...just deciding in my heart if this someone is the right person to be friends with! Yes...there are I so believe those whom touch our lives....inspire us...some whom even are not afraid because they really care about us that are brave enough to point out our self insecurities. Thru my life I have met so many wonderful people...I am truly blessed. I have a wonderful circle of friends! I guess life is so puzzling sometimes that I just gather the pieces...and if the pieces fit into my puzzle of life...they join the picture...and if they don't fit in my puzzle...I do not discard them...but save them aside...for perhaps someone need them to complete the picture in their picture of life!

When Katie's husband passed away I cried tears for her and the girls. I remember that most people had little clue that he was sick until the last few days. I use to be a big fan and watched her all the time in the AM. I hardly ever watch her now as I feel she reports for her ratings and has lost her direction.

I think that most of your commenters have pretty much said it all. I think you CAN read a lot in a person's eyes, and I think the Lord has helped me to have a "gut" or maybe "heart" feeling about a lot of people. I also feel that animals and kids have that same type of "knowing" and maybe it's because they tend to "read" body language more naturally.

I like to give people a chance to prove themselves one way or another if at all possible in most cases, but there are some that I just feel "wary" of from the start.

As for bloggers, I usually read what they have to say and answer from my heart if I feel lead and, so far, the ones that I've been led to have been wonderful people... but then I'm drawn toward animal lovers and children lovers and Bible lovers and those are the things I check for in a person's profile right from the start.
