Our Day Trip To Germany

Sorry I'm late, but my grandson is home sick again today with strep - he got his medicine yesterday and man that medicine is a miracle. Don't you wonder what happened to people before this medicine - I guess they could live or die. But thank God he is on the mend.

I suppose going to Germany on Sunday (and I borrowed this idea from a friend Rose at Santa Maker) didn't give him strep as he became sick on our way home - but I don't suppose it helped either.

Anyway we went to Germany this past Sunday for a little family vacation!

Isn't it colorful and festive there and the weather - was PERFECT! Low 70's. A wonderful day. .

They posted 'pictures' of the menu.

Eat what else - a hot dog!

We decided to take a carriage ride around the city.

He's thinking something.

He got to feed our horse a carrot when we got back.

This is where we ate dinner. Had bratwurst, red cabbage, sauerkraut, rye bread, and red potatoes.

This was our view from the restaurant.

Okay we didn't go to Germany - we went to Helen, GA. About an hour and a half from us.

Helen is a city located on the Chattahoochee River in White County in the north of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city's population was 420.

Formerly a logging town that was in decline, the city resurrected itself by becoming a replica of a Bavarian alpine town, in the Appalachians instead of the Alps. This design is mandated through zoning, so that the classic south-German style is present on every building, even for the small number of national franchisees present (such as Huddle House).

Because of this, tourism is the main industry in Helen, catering mostly to weekend visitors from the Atlanta area. Helen is extremely crowded in late October, when autumn leaves typically peak. It also hosts its own Oktoberfest during September, October and November.

There are many events and festivals throughout the year. One of the most well-known is the annual hot-air balloon race, which is held the first weekend in June each year.

Happy Birthday Ryan O'Neil- Wikipedia

O'Neal was in a long-term (off and on again) relationship with actress Farrah Fawcett, until her death. In June 2009, O'Neal asked Fawcett again to marry him. O'Neal reported that this time she said yes, and stated that the wedding would happen "as soon as she can say yes". No ceremony took place before Fawcett's death on June 25, 2009.

In 2001 he was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). As of 2006, it is in remission. After struggling with leukemia, O'Neal was frequently seen at Fawcett's side during her own bout with cancer. He opened up to People magazine saying, "It's a love story. I just don't know how to play this one. I won't know this world without her. Cancer is an insidious enemy."

I do believe that it was a love story between the two of them!

Poor Andy...I hope he gets better real soon...I haven't been up to Helen in 20 years or more...it still looks the same...I was surprised to see the picture of Andy on the rocks by the river...I would have had a heart attack thinking he would have fallen in...I guess that's the differance between having girls versus boys!!

Oh Sandie, I love doing touristy things like this. You are just the bestest granny ever. You are! And as for Ryan and Farrah. I truly loved both of them and miss her so much. Poor Ryan he is lost without her but one day they will be together for all times. Beautiful post and pictures! Hugs sis, Mollye

Helen looks like a great place to spend some time (and money LOL) it does look authenitically German (or at least as what I would perceive German to look like) We have a similar city here but it is designed with Dutch heritage, in Solvang, about 4 hours from where I live. Bet your sister is acquainted with it.

Looked like you guys had a nice time there!

glad to hear Grandson is feeling a bit better today!

Wow, how did I miss this post. I love it. I have written it down as a place to visit one day. Took Hubby to Dr yesterday, he needs shoulder replacement, hope he will get it done, so we can travel again. He hurts to much now to drive or ride long distances.
Andy looks like he was having more fun here than at Cabbage patch land...lol...
