Miracle on 34th Street

Believe Without Seeing - Thursday December 9, 2010
Categories: Inspiration and Prayer, Mental Health
All the Christmas movies--from the classic "Miracle on 34th Street" to "The Year Without a Santa Claus" preach a common message: faith is about believing without seeing.
I copied this blog because I thought it was beautiful and is true for everyone and decided to share it with you.

"In our family favorite, "Elf," Santa's sleigh, fueled by Christmas spirit, crashes into Central Park in New York City. In order to convince people to believe in Santa, young Michael (Daniel Tay) steals Santa's logbook of Christmas wishes to show a news reporter.

"People believing after they've seen proof of me doesn't count," Santa explains. "Christmas spirit is about believing without seeing."

Faith in Jesus operates the same way. In fact, the risen Christ tells Thomas the Twin (1 Peter 1:3-9) pretty much the same thing Santa told Michael: "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe."
As a depressive, I have to believe. Even when I don't see. When, like Thomas, I stretch out my hand to touch the side of Jesus but all I feel is more pain. I go on believing. Because my life depends on it."

So glad week one is over! Hope that things will start getting better! I can't believe it is almost a new year! 2010 has been good/bad/pretty great and sometimes downright ugly. It has brought me a wonderful friend(you) and a Grandbaby on the way so I'm a happy lady. Hang in there Sandie!

Week One...DOWN! Keep up the good work, Sandie. Just take ONE MINUTE at a time. Relax, be kind and good to yourself, be GENTLE with yourself, luxuriate in rest and recuperation, and let everyone wait on you to the max!

Take care and stay warm and cozy. Here, we are buried in snow, which is still falling. And the wind is wicked! Susan

Hi Sandie,
I'm so behind on your posts. I'm glad your knee surgery went well and you are now recuperating.

I'll be praying for you so you will have a speedy recovery and it's not too painful.

(((Sandie))) Glad week one is done and onward to week two! Each and every day it will be a bit better we hope, right?

I'm with that blog entry; without Jesus what do I have, nothing. I will keep believing in him, even when life makes no sense because what else is there to hope in but him??

take care of yourself!!!!!!

I love the snowman cartoon, and the light display with music is just beautiful!! I think you need to put a pain scale on your sidebar, and every day, show what number your pain is at! A pain update! Really feeling for you, Sandie!

No doubt physical therapy will be a huge challenge. But I know you will be able to dig deep and make the most of it. Just think of the benefits when you are through this! Hang in there - sounds like you're doing great.

This was so good - Interestingly enough, on Wednesday I am doing a post that includes those very same words that Jesus spoke to Thomas. I like the idea that I am one of the "blessed" who believes without seeing.

Reminds me of that old saying, "Some things just have to be seen in order to be believed." In matters of faith, it's just the opposite that's true - Some things just have to be BELIEVED before they can be SEEN!"

GOD BLESS!

Hang in there, Mrs. New Knee!

I am so tickled for you that you are past week one. Just keep telling yourself through PT that it is for the better. Will make it all work better.

I continue to keep you in my prayers sweet one. I know that each day will bring a little more movement and less pain.

It has been such a joy getting to know you in 2010 and I can't wait to see what 2011 will bring us.

Sandie, so glad to hear you have the first week behind you...and I am still sending fast healing and less pain and discomfort thoughts each day... We are all surrounding you with love and support...wish I lived closer so I could come over and make you some tea and help you with stuff around your house. Happy New Year!! Wouldn't we all start next year off if we believed without seeing? What a GREAT message! Thank you for it.

Oh boy...PT most likely won't be a picnic for you. So sorry you have to go through this, but, all in all, down the road, you'll be fit and fiddle! Good luck with the PT. Keep those pain pills at the ready!

HI MISS SANDY!!!!
Hang in there, in a few more weeks this will all be a distant memory and you will feel so much better.
I cannot imagine the pain you are in, but I have had pain and I have hurt, inside and out, the inside pain is FAR worse and I would take any outside pain any day over hurt or sadness ever.
MAy God give you the faith you need tonight to feel the healing touch of Jesus.
God Bless you
hugs 2 U,
jamie

Well, you have outdid yourself with this one. For the comic cracked me absolutely up, and the original version of "Miracle on 34th Street" is my favorite one. Although, the one made in 1994 is not bad at all. The message about believing without seeing was certainly icing on the cake.
