Thursday

Thank you all for your support for yesterday's blog. You all were very supportive.

Well today is the 4th day the schools have been closed.

And this is why:

We had snow and THEN WE HAD FROZEN RAIN - and on top of the snow - there is about an inch of frozen rain - making it a sheet of ice. And then with cold temps and no heating - there is no way for it to melt.

This is a bus stop for the kids - there would be no way to safely have them stand there when the bus comes at 7am in the morning - pitch black.

What does unfreeze during the day - refreezes at night and in the early morning is a sheet of ice.

In most of the area - where I live - being in the foothills of the Kennesaw Mtns. - we have curves and hills everywhere.

We took a drive yesterday to physical therapy for me,

The top of this hill is my grandson's bus stop.
This is our driveway - we have a hill - almost couldn't get out!. We have nothing to shovel with (hubby's excuse as why we aren't shoveling - to heavy and icy anyway.)

Steps out of the front door!

So that is a little trip to the warm ole south! We just aren't prepared for snow and ice. I bet there won't be any school tomorrow either- teehee. Temps won't be high enough to melt anything until this weekend. Then Monday is Martin Luther King Day and the kids have off again.

Wonder when they will make all this up?

“Values are like fingerprints. Nobody's are the same, but you leave 'em all over everything you do.” Elvis Presley (And lessons too.)

Well, we'll all try to stay warm!

Love,
sandie

Wow! Your photos tell a true story of what the situation is. I remember your part of Atlanta so well .. hiking up Kennesaw mountain as often as we could.

brings back memories of living in Montana! ice is the worst! stay safe if you attempt to walk outside! I always walked like a penguin when we lived in Montana, I was so afraid of slipping on ice

it is good though for the kids to be home and not out in unsafe conditions, but it is tough trying to figure out when to make up the time lost

hoping for warm sunny weather soon for you guys!

Brrrrrr. And I thought we had it bad - no snow and ice - we are lucky! And who knew Elvis was such a philosopher? Such wise words. Ann

Your neighborhood looks like mine. Got home last night and we had trouble getting in the driveway (we are also on a hill). Two lanes of I-85 had snow and ice so that leaves for any commuters only 4 lanes on each side to drive in the mad house of Atlanta traffic. Whoo hoo. Maybe there won't be too many drivers out yet.

I just can't get over it, Sandie! I thought your ice had melted. We are chilly down here, too (freezing at night), but it's supposed to be in the 70's next week. Hopefully, y'all will get some of that sunshine, too.

XO,

Sheila :-)

I also think you should just let it go... I also think that giving perfume to someone you don't know is a risky gift and I wouldn't have...but I can also understand why your daughter did figuring if she didn't like it, she could just quietly give it to someone else and not sick her father on her...how utterly rude. And he's your friend, Sandy? I would tell him if I were you...but then, that might be misconstrued as meddling LOL

p.s. that is so cute about the family dog and disco's photo!

Yet on the news yesterday they said it still wouldn't make sense to spend money on snowplows. It's hard to imagine such a big city coming to a standstill.
Be safe.

I am sure the kids are all in hog heaven! LOL! Please be very, very careful with your new knee. That ice is trecherous! Hugs ~ Tanna

So send everyone in the house outside and tell them to BLOW all their hot air on the ice!!! Seriously though, you'd better not be walking on all that ice...not with your knee!!...:)JP

No telling when they'll make it up. As for the days I have missed, I just lose them. I only work through the standardized test week.

My kids won't remember a thing they learned. I haven't been back since before Christmas!

Wow!! Oh, how could you have possibly gone out in that, even for P.T.?? With your knee and all!! Did the car slide?? I would have been so scared!!! Stay in!!! My mom's favorite and most often used saying was SHEET OF ICE!!

You still have more snow than we do Sandie! I think you should invest in a snow shovel and a sled!

My kids missed school yesterday and today. Tomorrow was already scheduled for them to be off and so was Monday! So it's a very long weekend for my kids too! You guys got one extra day on us though! hehehe

The sun does look warmer at your house though.

Hugs,
Angela

Huh~never dawned on me that you'd be up a snowdrift without a shovel!
Guess, GA folks don't automatically have one at the ready in the garage???? Why would you? Well, the kids may still be going back to school in June. That's what happens here if there are too many snow days. We're expecting another wintry blast over the weekend. Jim is in Sturbridge, Mass., and he says they have a foot and a half, and single digit temps. At least they have all the tools to deal with it there. A big plus! Soon, life will be normal, and you'll all talk about the winter of '11!

be ever so careful with that knee Sandie.
Snow is one thing but ICE can kill people...it is bad you live on hills and curves but I bet it is beautiful in the spring.
We received 2" of snow but no ice but 5-6 degree temps...today it was up to 42 but much colder with the wind chill and tomorrow is suppose to be warmer....this is unusual weather for us...it just means winter will stay longer this year.
