Monday's Musings ...about love

"I thought this was pretty and wanted to share it with you.

"Who so loves/Believes the impossible." ~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born in Durham, England. She was known for her Sonnets from the Portuguese, her poetry captured the essence of her love for poet Robert Browning.

The 43rd sonnet began with the famous words, "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." The book's title came from Robert's pet name for Elizabeth, "the Portuguese."

"Experience, like a pale musician," she wrote, "holds a dulcimer of patience in his hand."

With patience and love, Elizabeth and Robert believed-- and created-- the "impossible." Through the beauty of her poetry, Robert fell in love with her before they ever met. He wrote to her of his admiration and she replied.

The couple exchanged nearly 600 letters and poetry for 20 months. Of their love, she wrote, "He made me feel with every breath I drew in his presence, that he loved me with no ordinary affection."

Elizabeth, an invalid and recluse with a chronic lung disease, chose love over death. She defied her father's orders, and the couple eloped to Italy in 1846 where they flourished in their love for one another.

"Grow old along with me!" Robert urged his beloved in one of his most famous poems, "The best is yet to be./The last of life, for which the first was made."

~~With love, all is possible. "

Hope you enjoyed this,

That was great, Sandie. If only all of us could live life through the eyes of a child, the world would be a better place.

Loved the E.B.Browning lines, too. I'm a hopeless romantic. I like to believe "the best is yet to be."

Take care and have an awesome Monday. Susan

I have always thought the Barrett browning story extremly romantic! Can you imagine the courage it would have taken in those days to leave her overbrearing father? From what I rememeber, love got her better and it was Robert who died first? Too bad you couldn't see the joy you have given little Ella today. Elephants are her favorite thing in the whole world. She has several stuffed ones that she loves, we gave her one for Christmas. I told her I had a surprise on the computer and she LOVED it, watched it several times and made me promise to show her again as soon as her nap is over. Once in awhile, you put on games and things she really loves!

The Brownings had such a very sweet love affair. I have enjoyed their poetry.

Thanks for sharing this - I found it very enjoyable. And the quote - Who so loves/Believes the impossible." That was so good - and directly applies to a situation with a person in my life.

Believing GOD for the impossible...

got here too late and couldn't watch the video; said it was no longer available :(

I didn't know that about Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning. What a love story indeed! Can you imagine them waiting for letters from each other? Certainly there was some time in between them without the Internet. So glad she chose love over death and took the plunge to be with him; I'm sure she didn't regret it.
