Thursdays Tale . . .

Let's see today - I am sure you heard on the news there were 150 tornadoes last night and 168 deaths and counting. Eleven were in Georgia and the hardest hit area was Tuscaloosa, Alabama. That city was devastated. We were so lucky personally as it was south of us. Prayers for everyone in those tornado's and all the flooding in the world - a lot is going on right now.

Did I tell you I asked for the thyroid shield as my last mammogram. Now I go to Breast Specialists that only see woman and their breast issues. It is a big place - they do the mammogram and read it and check you all in the same day. You can wait for hours. Really.

Well the tech seemed a little huffy. She had to leave the room. She comes back and says, "I guess the medical world is going to be run by what Dr. Oz says." I showed her the forward I had received and she asked if she could keep it. I said sure.

The reason being is that a lot of women had read that article and had asked for it. The whole office had only one or two. IT WAS THE DOCTOR'S - the radiologist's!

Now that tells me something right there. She asked for the paper so she could talk to the doctors about ordering more - one for all the x-ray rooms.

In two weeks I go to the dentist and I am going to ask them too!

If you missed my blog - when you have mammograms or teeth x-rays ask for the thyroid shield.

We usually go out to eat a couple times a week - once at a cheaper place and once at a little nicer place. We went to Red Lobster - at the GS's request. His oral sensory is so bad that it effects his eating terribly - so when he said he wanted to try Lobster - shrimp - and crab legs we went hoping he would learn to eat something new. They have lobster fest going on so it wasn't too bad.

You can just see the joy in his face - he learned to eat shrimp - butterflied and breaded - but it was SHRIMP!!!!!!!!! I am so excited - so of course I bought some at the grocery store - now to see if he will eat them at home.

Our Red Lobster is by our mall and I had my camera like any good blogger does - lol -we ran into some geese outside.

This was a successful dinner - we usually eat very stressed - trying to get him to eat.

So tell me about your weather - what's going on with you - and remember to wear the thyroid shield. Are you going to watch the wedding tomorrow?

Love,
chatty

Definitely going to ask for the thyroid shield since I read your notes in your previous post. My Mom had thyroid cancer 6 months after I was born and in those days they just took it out and hoped for the best. My Mom had a scar that looked like someone slit her throat and she was very self-conscience about it. To me she was always my beautiful Mom and I never noticed her scar. Glad you GS ate new foods. Stress at meals is an issue with all kids.
Scary night last night with all the tornado warnings.

i will record the wedding since i will be out all morning, don't really know what time it is. i would like to see the wedding itself, but am sick to death of all the reporting on it. glad you found something your GS can and will eat. does this mean he can't smell food so it does not taste good?

The news of the tornados is awful. I grew up in Oklahoma so I have had experience with these horrible storms. Praying for those who are suffering.
I need to schedule a mammogram today, so I will take your advice on the thyroid shield. Thanks

Hi, I suppose informed patients upset health workers who should not be working in that field to begin with!

Geez. Good for you for saying something!

*hugs*

I just read a news report about the tornados before clicking onto your blog. A continuing year of horrible weather patterns. As for the weather up here, it's finally warming up, snow is melting although we have a stubborn deep patch in our back yard that should disappear by the end of the weekend.

Glad your DS enjoyed the shrimp. I love going to Red Lobster. Maybe now you'll be able to go more often if DS likes the food there. Good for him for being willing to try new stuff.

Will keep in mind your thyroid shield advice.

Just your southern neighbor checking in on you. I'm glad you were north of the worst of it.

We're just dreary and very humid right now. I hope it passes on through.

Your grandson is his typical cute self as he celebrates the shrimp discovery.

How did he like the "crap legs"?
Sorry... I got the case of the giggles when I read that and couldn't resist.

Hi Sandie, These storms are something else. Glad to know you are safe. I am going to Boston to a writing conference. (for teachers mostly) Stay turn for pics on my blog, in poetic form, of course.

Hi Sandie...Dark, dreary, and rainy here in New England.

I'm SO GLAD the horrendous devastation in the weather did not wreak havoc where you live.

Thanks for the thyroid shield reminder. I'll ask about it next time I have dental work or a mammogram.

I probably won't watch more than 5 minutes of The Wedding. (I'm a rebel. ha ha) Susan

It's a shame you even have to ask for a shield. It should be provided all the time without prompting first.
I'm not planning on watching the wedding. I am sick of the whole ordeal already. I just don't get all the hype about it.

Glad you had a nice meal. I don't patronize Red Lobster for political reasons, but I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I'm going to watch the wedding providing my TV decides to give me reception with my rabbit ears LOL

The weather's not too bad here, just windy and lots of rain with thunder and lightning that Gizzy hates, but I'm thankful we are relatively unaffected for now.

Prayers to those poor folks in harm's way!

Yes to the thyroid protector, I saw that episode, too! Is your grandson a picky eater, then? Or does he not eat enough? All his own idea to try a new food for the first time? And one that is creepy, too! Good for him, I think a lot of kids would run screaming. We never went to bed last night, had three tornado warnings. My eyes are killing me, but we are fine. The Guard has been sent in.

I will remember to ask about the shield. I had half my throid removed about 10 years ago. Don't want to lose the rest.

Do hope that the storms don't reach you, Chatty! Have been watching it on the BBC news and it must be pretty devasted by all those affected by it. Take care.

Forgot to say, YES, I will be glued to the tv all day watching the Royal Wedding. Getting quite excited now!

Good info/reminder about the shield. Thanks.
What a coup-finding food that your guy can enjoy!
This Californian is getting tired of the tornados chasing us everywhere east of the Mississippi!

Good for you for remembering the thyroid shield, Sandie; I probably would have forgotten it preoccupied with the testing. Always good to remember!

Glad GS tried shrimp! Hopefully as he gets older, he will be more willing to try new things!

Do stay safe with all these storms! Bright and sunny and warm here today!

Thyroid problems run very heavily in my family. I need to try to remember to ask for a shield - I had xrays in January and March over my IT band injury and didn't ask either time - plus in March the dentist! Gah!

Forgot about the thyroid shield. Thanks for the reminder.

We had a big thunderstorm this afternoon with tornado warnings, but we're fine. I'm glad you and your family are okay.

Great pics of your GS.

Great follow-up to your earlier "shield" post, Sandie. BTW, I've shared that story far and wide :)
Thank God, my son and his family in Alabama were spared any destructive weather. I was trying not to panic!

Wedding's verrrry soon .. I can't wait!

I have been thinking about you and several other friends along the "mid section" of America...Still saying and sending prayers...

Good for you asking for the shield. I plan on doing the same thing. Thanks again for sharing that info with us.

Hope all goes well on your new floor, so the doggy can get some peace and quiet! LOL...

The only way medical offices will change and protect us is if we let them know we need it, want it, and demand it. Good for you!!!!

Glad you had such a terrific dinner out. :)

YAY for the GS!!

By the way, I LOVE shrimp. By the way, I AM a shrimp...

Didn't watch the wedding, but caught some photos. Kate looked absolutely breath-taking. I think she's beautiful.

Weather here is warming up - and I've been in shorts and sandals. Yes, spoiled a bit here...

How are you?!

It must be awful to be living in the area where all those tornadoes have been going through the past couple of days. I'm so glad that you were safe... at least through Thurs. I will be reading your Friday post in a few mins.

I guess I should backtrack and find your blog on The Thyroid thing. I wasn't interested at all in the wedding. I knew I'd at least get to see the dress on the news. My sister was going to tape it, and if she saw corgis, THEN I would get to watch THAT part... :) I thought her dress was truly beautiful. Very tasteful and elegant. That car they drove around in afterwards was AWESOME!
