Wednesdays Tidbits

HAPPY HUMP DAY!

Chatty's going swimming this afternoon. We live in a swim and tennis community and my niece and her brood are coming over to swim and we'll have a pizza delivered tonight.

QUOTE:
"If you lead with your heart, it will carry you much further than your brains will." ~ Sylvester Stallone

In 1976, Stallone wrote the Rocky script in longhand and refused to let any one else play the role of the prize fighter. In Rocky's words, "believe in yourself, and you can do anything."

INFORMATION:
Have you ever heard of this law?

New Law: If a patrol car is pulled over to the side of the road, you have to change to the next lane (away from the stopped vehicle) or slow down to at least 20 mph under the posted speed limit.

Every state except Hawaii and Maryland and the D .C. has this law. In California , the Move-over law became operative on January 1, 2010.

http://www.moveoveramerica.com/

A friend's son got a ticket for this recently. A police car (turned out it was two police cars) was on the side of the road giving a ticket to someone else. He slowed down to pass but did not move into the other lane. The second police car immediately pulled him over and gave him a ticket. He had never heard of the law.

It is a fairly new law that states if any emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if you are able, you are to move into the far lane.

The cost of the ticket was $754, with three points on your license and a mandatory court appearance. Please let everyone you know that drives about this new law. It is true (see details at the following web address).

(Thank you Jean for helping me to help my friends).

JOKE:
A magician worked on a cruise ship.

The audience was different each week so the magician did the same tricks over and over again.

There was only one problem: The captain's parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the Magician did every trick.

Once he understood, he started shouting in the middle of the show, "Look, It's not the same hat!" or, "Look, he's hiding the flowers under the table!" Or "Hey, why are all the cards the ace of spades?"

The magician was furious but couldn't do anything. It was, after all, the Captain's' parrot.

Then one stormy night on the Pacific, the ship unfortunately sank, drowning almost all who were on board.
The magician luckily found himself on a piece of wood floating in the middle of the sea, as fate would have it ... With the parrot.

They stared at each other with hatred, but did not utter a word.

This went on for a day... And then 2 days. And then 3 days. Finally on the 4th day, the parrot could not hold back any longer and said...

"OK, I give up. Where's the ship?"

Thank you EvaMarie!

Finally - some INSPIRATION for the day!

Oh yes swimming and pizza sound great! I had heard of the new law and try to make sure I can move over if I see someone on the side of the road. That was one expensive ticket. Glad you shared that. hugs, Linda

What a fun day you're gonna have - remember the sunblock!

We were traveling to Okla a year or so ago and dh got stopped for not pulling over in the situation you described. He only got a warning as we had just rounded a curve when we came upon the police car on the side of the road and had no time to safely pull into the next lane. I didn't realize this was the case in most states.

A swimming and pizza day sounds great. Hope y'all have fun.

I did not know it was a law to move over, but I have always considered it a good idea. Actually, when any car (not just police) is pulled onto the side of the road, I think it's a good idea to move over. I have been parked on the side of the road a few times, and it's quite unnerving to have 55 MPH cars flying by right next you.

Love and hugs to you,
Patti

Cute about the parrot, and have fun with your swim party today. I had not heard about that awful new law with its huge fine. Thanks for the info, I will check it out online.

We have that law in Arizona...they have signs posted all over the freeways...good gosh..I didn't know how much $$$ the tickets were....sometimes I feel like we are living in a police state in Arizona...all over doing what I feel is just trying to catch someone so they can issue a ticket!

I'm so jealous! I wish we had a swimming pool here! I love swimming (in a pool!) So guess what? I did the next best thing - when I sat outside this morning after my walk with Gizzy, I just turned on the hose and "watered" myself - poured water all over me and that felt so refreshing - I might do it every morning. (Yes, I was fully dressed!)

That parrot is hilarious!

Thanks for the reminder about the move-over law; that's a hefty ticket!

The human spirit is so amazing - the things we could accomplish if we could only be of one heart, just once!

Have a great day, my friend and enjoy your swim!

I loved that movie you had posted at the end of your post today - it was very touching. Hope you had a nice swim - it sounds great to live like that.
And the parrot - lol - I couldn't resist sharing that and glad you put it up - it's a good laugh.
Enjoy your Day!

Sounds like a lovely day! We have a pool also, but mostly only use it when my great-granddaughter is here. She loves to swim. :)

What a fun day you have planned. Swimming always makes a person hungry and pizza is just the thing.
I have heard of that law. But I think it is dangerous to the motorist. Another great post!

Hi Sandie, Hope you have a great day with family swimming... You are seldom without family around, are you???? I have a friend like you--and she loves it too.... I'd need some BREAKS... ha

Both hubby and I have heard of the 'move over' law for years... We always move over.... Sorry for the ticket.

Cute stories and jokes!!!

first i have heard of the law but i have always gone over to the other lane when any car is pulled over out of healthy fear of hitting someone. thanks for the headsup, looks like it has been in effect in Florida since 2003. we did have several police officers killed on the side of the road.
swimming and pizza have fun

I hope everyone had a good time swimming today! Wish we had a pool close by! Hope you didn't get burned either! I always get burned to a crisp even after applying sunscreen several times throughout the day.

I have always pulled to the next lane when I see anyone on the side of the road. I will say that sometimes you can't get in the other lane because of traffic.

Hugs,
Angela

I can't believe I'm so late getting here today. Yikes.

The first time I saw that wonderful video of the father with the son, I cried like a baby.

I didn't know about that law, and I need to make sure my husband does.

Hi Sandie,
Love the parrot joke! And swimming and pizza are summer standards around these parts! Hope you all had a great time!

LOL with the joke with the parrot and magician!! I didn't see that punch line coming!! Very refreshing to swim on a hot summer day AND to have pizza with the company of family; sure hope you all had a great time!!

Thankfully I live in California; otherwise I would have trouble remembering that law! That is expensive fine though! Son was notoriously bad about not using his seat belt (click it or ticket here). After two fines, he learned how to use it :)

have a good Thursday!

Hi Sandie! Funny, the kids and I just did swimming and dinner too, but we went with submarine sandwiches!.. I didn't know about the law you spoke of, and am glad to know it now! I passed the link on to my daughter so that she'll read and know it too! Gee, why don't they TELL us these things! Put it in the news, the papers, tv commercials, magazines... whatever! Just get the word out! (sigh, or is the idea to make ticket profits off what WE DON'T KNOW?! $750.00??!!).. Anyways, LOVED the joke! FUNNY! So thanks for my morning giggles! Have a great day, keep cool, and whatever you're doing, enjoy! ~tina

What an amazing story that video tells! It certainly shows what belief in possibilities can achieve!

Thanks for responding to my question about the followers icon. I still don't see mine--nor do I see it on the pages of those I follow. What a mystery!

Swimming! Sounds so refreshing.

That law has been in effect in Minnesota for as long as I can remember, but I've never heard of it being used...
