PARAPROSDOKIAN Anyone?

Okay, okay I am a drama queen. When I put things in perspective - some one losing a mate or someone getting breast cancer - not getting into two schools is not that big of a deal. Right?

So I am going grow up and . . .

So let's learn something today - do you know what a PARAPROSDOKIAN is?

Winston Churchill loved them - does that help? I didn't know what one was either:

Here is the definition:

"Figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected; frequently used in a humorous situation."
"Where there's a will, I want to be in it," is a type of paraprosdokian.

1. Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

2. The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's still on my list.

3. Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright
until you hear them speak.

4. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

5. We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

6. Evening news is where they begin with 'Good Evening,' and then proceed to tell you why it isn't.

7. Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.

8. Money can't buy happiness, but it sure makes misery easier to live with.

9. I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

10. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

11. Where there's a will, there's relatives.
HOPE YOU ENJOYED!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

"I will not take but for an answer. " ~ Langston Hughes
"What happens to a dream deferred?" he asked with classic poignancy.
"Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die/Life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly," observed the man."

I beleive what ever crisis we are in at a moment in our lives is every bit as important as or even more so than what others are going through. the school is your crisis of the moment and effects your daily life, that is like comparing apples to oranges on the life threatening crisis. it does help us keep our perspectives straight, but it does matter about the school so wallow in it all you want/need to.
number 1 i will use on my husband and 1 and 2 on my kids.

You're not a drama queen at all. It just shows how deeply you care for GS :-)

No, I have never heard of a "paraprosdokian" before, but I can see why Winston loved them so! Loved your post, and have a great day! I'm ready to put my big girl panties on to start my own! ~tina

Haven't you heard....Grandmas are suppose to be drama queens...or at least that's what I've been told and I am sticking with it.....If I changed, they wouldn't know it was me so go ahead be a drama queen it's fun......We've earned the right at our age.....

GrammyK said...

My kids really are drama queens/kings!! It's not unheard of for someone to pop off with "Uh! This is just the worst day ever!!" (And it happens quite often, I might add!! You'd think our lives were just miserable! Ha Ha!!) To which I usually ask them "who died?" or "what catastrophic event happened?" It's just a matter of perspective I guess. That doesn't mean that we're not allowed to have a good hissy fit if the occasion calls for it though!! :-) We can express our displeasure of the way life treats us at times. As long as we truly understand the nature of it all, of course!! And you know that God has got to be smiling behind his hand sometimes at our silliness. He's got it all worked out and we just have to trust. :-) Praying that His will would be done in your lives!!! <3

GrammyK said...

Oh goodness!! I just reread my comment and want you to know I wasn't implying that your concerns are "silly"!!! Yikes. I was just being "general". :-) You know what I mean I'm sure!! (blush)

Hahahaha..... those are really funny.

I really do hope GS gets into a great school and you are allowed to be the Drama Queen, even though I didn't think you were. Grandmas are allowed to care!!

Linda @ A La Carte said...

You are not a drama queen...you are a loving, concerned Grandma. Just because its not death or sickness it is important and worth our prayers and your concern! I love you just as you are. Now that said, I think these are so funny and I loved them. hugs, Linda

Such great thoughts, and most of them are so true. I've found I can be a drama queen as much as I want, nobody cares, cause they don't pay that much attention to me.

Love those examples!! You most assuredly are not a drama queen! School is important and I understand your concerns. The answer will come, the hard part is waiting patiently while you look and pray.

Grandma's and great grandma's are allowed to be drama queens, otherwise they wouldn't like us as much as they do. :)

I too hope that the school situation turns out for the best.

And, #7, I've seen quite a few of those women. And, let us not forget tatoo's. LOL
