Tuesdays Tails

It's coming Saturday - but I did learn something from my friend Eva - who lives in Ireland - not only do they celebrate it on the 17th they also have the day off on Monday! I believe it is in celebration of Saint Patrick bringing Christianity to Ireland.

Now this is one - I think - brilliant dog here. He hates the water and the ball he wants is in the water. Only 30 seconds.

Do see what is hanging off those utility wires?

Pogo Moose Incident - Columbia Falls, Montana. North Western Energy crews were laying new power cables which were strung on the ground for miles. The moose are rutting right now and very agitated. He was thrashing around and got his antlers stuck in the cables. When the men (miles away) began pulling the lines up with their big equipment, the moose went up with them. They noticed excess tension in the lines and went searching for the problem. He was still alive when they lowered him to the ground. He was a huge 60 inch bull and slightly teed off!

Thought for the day:

~~"The more elaborate our means of communication, the less we communicate." ~ Joseph Priestley

The chemical element Oxygen (Symbol O) was discovered by Joseph Priestley (1733–1804). The minister and scientist was born on this day in Leeds, England.

The deeply religious Priestly tried to find ways for science to improve and celebrate life. A meeting with Benjamin Franklin in 1766 inspired Priestly to further study electricity and write History of Electricity (1767).

Priestly then focused his research on gases, discovering oxygen in 1774. This discovery laid the foundation for the understanding of the oxygen-carbon dioxide interaction of living things.

The inquisitive Priestly should also be called the "father of soda pop," since his discovery of soda water led to a carbonated beverage craze in Europe... and eventually the world.

During his lifetime, Priestly discovered 20 "airs" including nitrous oxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, and ammonia. Now that's a lot of gas...~~

I thought this was interesting - how about you? What are your plans for St. Pat's day? I am from Chicago and they actually paint the river green for the day!

The moose story was great, I bet those men took cover when they got him to the ground. At first, I didn't have any plans for St. Paddy's day, but a group of my friends are getting together for supper at the home of an Irishman who is a great cook. Then a little fun and a Bible study. Have a great day.

Good Morning Sweetie...
What a fun share today. No St. Patty's Day off here, and no celebration except what I make here at our house. I hope you will take pics of the green river, as that would be a site to see from someone who is really there celbrating.

Love the Moose story. I can only imagine those guys faces when they traced back their lines and found that big thing hanging up there. Oh my gosh what a surprise. I would have been way at a distance when he got lose. I imagine he was one ANGRY moose.

Love that video, that is what our Rottweiller does as well. She doesn't like the water, so when her ball goes in the pool, she stands at the poolside and paddles the water, and then it brings back her ball. Such funny creatures.

Thanks for the smile today dear one. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

You continue to teach us about all sorts of things my friend! We don't really celebrate St Patricks Day very much in my little part of the world, but I hope you have a good one!

I love me a smart dog. That was great...St. Paddy's Day is always very special to me because we brought our first baby home from the hospital on that day and of course she was wearing a lovely green dress!

I saw on the news that the river in Savannah, GA has been dyed green already for the upcoming festivities down there.

I am going to someone's house for dinner - they are serving corned beef and cabbage. I will bring a green appetizer - I was thinking spinach dip. :)

Love that savvy dog!

No plans yet, but that could change. There is a bar that we like for their burgers, but everyone and their uncle seems to go to bars around here on St Pat's so I will probably make reuben sandwiches at home.

I love the moose story. Can't imagine what that poor animal thought as he was being hoisted into the air!

Poor Moose. I can't believe they were able to get a photo of it. Luv the dog. You come up with the cutest things.

Hi Sandie ~~ Thank you for preparing us for St. Patrick's day. He also drove all the snakes from Ireland. They have no snakes to this day over there.

I am not superstitious but I WEAR GREEN on St. Pattie's Day. That is to keep me from being pinched by leprechauns and others on that day.

That sounds cool to paint the river green. I'm going to take it easy during the weekend. Will go out with colleagues of Friday, that's all. And yeah, we get the Monday off as well :) At my work that was optional though, but I choose to have the day off. As we need to have a few people in...
I love your header photo, so peaceful.
Big hugs
Eva

I showed my hubby the photo of the moose! Great story, especially since he lived. I love what Deborah Norville said, and the video of the dog was priceless! Dogs are just marvelous creatures. Thanks, Sandie.

Great stories and pics today! A green river huh? Guess I wouldn't want my dog to go in the river!

Ann said...

I wish I could teach Duke to do that in the pool. He loves his raft but barks when it's not moving. If he knew how to do that he could paddle himself all over the pool

Oh, my gosh! That dog in the video is smarter than some people I've come across!!! lol

Love the dog video. But the poor moose; in agony and likely scared out of his wits. Priestly's work was a gas, as you have mentioned.

For Saturday? Not sure. It's my wife who has the Irish. I have just enough green clothes to blend in. "Up a long ladder and down a short rope" is the Irish poem I can recall.

Hope you have a grand St. Patrick's day. (We've already celebrated St. David's at the beginning of the month.)

OMG what a crazy picture of that moose. I bet that was a job getting him loose without getting hurt themselves.
Can you imagine the surprise when they found out the trouble.
Can't believe they dye the water green. How funny!
Great post honey
Hope your enjoy your week

That moose story is unbelievable! I can't believe they hoisted him up there.

We don't have any plans yet. The husband will have been gone all week so he'll probably celebrate the day MOWING the green.

Arkansas Patti said...

A dog that can problem solve is a genius. Love it.
I don't usually celebrate though I am half Irish. I just enjoy the antics of the temporary Irish.

A painted Green river....plz take a shot of it and share it with us...who will just have to contend with Red River running ....No special plans cept I will be outside in the green green grass working flowers, shrubs, and having a blissful day with the LORD as I "groom" his beauty all around me! Happy Patty Day...and may we be as bold as St Patrick was as introducing the continual Light of Christ to a perverse generation we live in: Happy Hump Day

I've never celebrated St. Patrick's Day and don't really plan on doing anything special this year. Maybe if I liked corned beef, I would make some. Oh well. I love that video! Such a smart dog! Hope you had a nice day!

That poor Moose! He must have been so scared! I'm glad he was OK in the end. Crazy!

i had butternut squash soup in a restaurant last night. they always "swirl" it with sour cream. the restaurant had colored the sour cream green and made it the shape of a shamrock, sooo cute, no camera!!

this was an action packed post. smart dog and an adorable cat!!

Betty said...

I should make corned beef and cabbage for my husband. Years ago I had a friend from Ireland and she had never heard of corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day until she moved here.

With the day falling on a Saturday I just hope people will be careful and not drink too much. I'm afraid there might be some celebrating that gets out of hand.

Love the video! No special plans here, but I notice Publix has lots of yummy green desserts calling my name!

Havea great day! Thanks for you help with me. Like I said. It was just hit and miss this time. Completed.

OK, the video with the dog was priceless! What a smartie!!

The moose story was amazing. Poor guy. I think I'd be teed off, too - rutting or not.

Interesting information about Priestley. I've never heard any of that. Most informative. Don't you find it ironic that most of the scientists in the past had some thought that there was indeed a God - and now most scientists spend their time trying to prove their disbelief?

Didn't do much yesterday for St. Patrick's Day - pinched the husband. Hey, he wasn't wearing green!!

:)
