Thursdays Thoughts

Girlie Wisdom!
1. One of life's mysteries is how a 2-pound box of chocolates can make a woman gain 5 lbs.

2. The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and your fat are really good friends..
3. Amazing! You hang something in your closet, for a while, and it shrinks 2 sizes!
4. Skinny people irritate me! Especially when they say things like...'You know sometimes I forget to eat!' .....Now, I've forgotten my address, my mother's maiden name, and my keys, but I have never forgotten to eat..
5. I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are eating too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding? That's my idea of a perfect day!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

x_3bb4d50e

Okay we went to Emory yesterday and the doctor.  I liked this doctor better if Rick needed surgery, but he did think he was pretty hot stuff.  Basically he said about the same thing.  He added another word - spontaneous was the word - spontaneous bilateral subdural hematomas.  When we get older - good news - our brain shrinks.  And then that leaves space in between the dural and the brain.  There are veins in the surface of the brain and they weaken - especially if you get hit or he said you could turn wrong.  (Not everyone gets these so don't worry.)  And thus they can come spontaneously.

Apparently where he got them was like the best place - not in the brain and not outside the Dural.  Have I lost you?  Okay if they keep shrinking - over a long time - fine - keep an eye on them and have CT scans every 6 weeks.  If they form scar tissue or start to bleed and become chronic - then surgery.  So he was a lot more technical today - but basically said what the other doctor said - wait and see.  Which is better than brain surgery.

I thank all of you for going thru this with me!

My daughter and grandson are on their way home from Florida.  I missed them. I know they had a good time, but it will be nice for them to come home.

I absolutely LOVE the comeback from the senior citizen. That's really great, and it's TRUE.

And I have never forgotten to eat in my life that I can recall. sigh

that is exactly what my friend snapper II heard from his doctor about his. so that is good news. and i have actually had people tell me they forget to eat and i think they must be LYING. i can't even imagine forgetting to eat. just kidding, i know it is true, bob sometimes forgets i go out and say are you eating lunch today? no one ever has to remind me for sure.

Love the "Girlie" words...very funny and so true.

I am glad to hear the good news about Rick...it is nice for a change to hear something good. So our brains shrink like the rest of us...no wonder we forget things. LOL

Forget to eat? Forget to breathe? Same thing. Lol.

Loved the post today -- awesome. xoxo

I used to forget to eat when my kids were little, but sadly, that's when I could have eaten the entire fridge's contents and gotten away with it. Now that a bite of chocolate adds a one-inch layer of fat, I remember to eat all the time. Dang it!

Shug said...

Yep...My body and my fat have become best buds!!
Glad that you all got a second opinion for Rick...Still praying that these things to shrink and go away (and never come back again)
Thanks for the update...
have a great day,.

Glad for the good news of Rick and hope they do indeed shrink.

I so love the girlie words. So true!

I'm glad you liked this new Dr. better. I hope you and Rick have found comfort in his words and that you can move forward and not worry. Hard, I know, but I also know how strong you are. :)

Have fun when the kds get home!

Thanks for the update on Rick. Glad he won't be needing surgery ... that's good news.

No one has ever had to remind me to eat ... there have been times when I just finish one meal and have already started to think about my next. ha!

Jeanie said...

Forget to eat? That will never happen to me.
I'm glad you got the 2nd opinion and it seems good that it was basically the same as the first.

Marti said...

Glad to hear that the prognosis is wait, that may be hard, but it is easier than surgery.
I enjoy eating, so it has to be good for me. Have a good day.

betty said...

I think that was good news from Emory! At least he seemed to explain things a bit more, I think. Will continue to pray that Rick won't need surgery.

LOL, I think I forget to stop eating at times :)

It will be good to hear of the adventures of your daughter and GS; I'm sure lots of great stories they'll be sharing.

You make me laugh! I do hope things continue surgery-free! Thanks for your example of such a great attitude!

Wait and see works for me as well. Our brains shrink? Cripes, I don't think mine was very big to start with.

dr momi said...

So WHY does a 2# box of chocolates make you gain 5#'s??? That is a good question!

No surgery is a better thing. Praying they "spontaneously" disappear!

Susan said...

Hi Sandie...Sounded like good news to me. Wow. I'm SO GLAD the brain surgery won't be necessary. Loved your post today. Susan

Hehe, love it when I get to come by, cuz, I come by and go through like two weeks of funnys! Thank you thank you thank you!

Mevely317 said...

Whew, Sandie! I was thinking of ya'all yesterday, and praying for GOOD news. Isn't (some) doctors' ego trips soooo irritating? My head says "Forget it", and go for (their) knowledge; (but) my heart still longs for Marcus Welby, M.D.!

Love the Girlie Wisdom ... I can SO relate!

TARYTERRE said...

no reason to cut if it is not necessary. Wait and see is the best approach according to two doctors. So that must make you feel better. You all will continue to be in my prayers. Take care.

Oh, the comeback was perfection!! Little whippersnapper!

The ills of getting older is not for sissies for sure. I'm so glad to hear that both doctors agree ! My brain maybe shrinking but my appetite has not and I've never been to busy to forget to eat.

How could anyone forget to eat??????

Glad the Doc said the same thing and your hubby is improving!

First of all - I am so glad that surgery isn't needed for now. Secondly, you have such a great attitude - you find the funniest things despite trials. Thank you for making me smile. We all have things we go through and need a good laugh once in a while.

I'm so glad your hubby doesn't have to have surgery! We'll pray that it won't ever be needed!
Loved the senior joke! Great comeback!
Yep, me and my fat are bestest friends! I don't know if I could bear to lose a good friend like that. Teehee!
Have a great day!

Not to make light of any that y'all are going through, but I've known for decades now --going on 7 [eek!] that I have had an empty space between the brain and the Dural.

I'll keep my thoughts and positive vibes for you and what Rick is going through. You must be stressed yourself!! How can you not be?

As for the first section of your post I LOVED #s 4 and 5 - especially 5

I have never forgotten to eat. EVER. I sometimes have to remind myself to stop eating. That is a great list! Good news from the doctor, well no surgery is good news. Hope you enjoy your reunion with your grandson and daughter! Enjoy!

That makes me laugh! I had dinner at church with my kids last night and my husband could not make it. Normally I would fix his plate and give it to him before I left but with VBS and the extra kids, I forgot. I left leftovers and when I got home he told me he forgot to eat! LOL I never forget to eat! I wish I did!

Unknown said...

Good news for the hubby. I am off to dinner now, lol

Arkansas Patti said...

Wow, that is a lot of CT scans but I guess it is best to be safe. Glad you like this Dr. but sorry he could only add one adjective to the diagnosis. Just keep on top of this like you are.
I am over weight but occasionally I do forget to eat. I mainly eat if I am bored so if I am properly entertained, I do forget.

I hate the wait and see but that is of course very good news and I pray that each time you are able to wait and see. Love, Debby

I can't say I have ever forgotten to eat. Maybe just to busy to stop and eat but I still knew I was hungry just to busy to do something about it. I am glad there is still no surgery for now!
Hope you have a nice day.

Ann said...

#5 of the girlie wisdom is my idea of a perfect day too :)
Glad to hear you got the same good news from the doctor. No surgery is a good thing

The brain shrinking thing explains a lot of why I am getting so befuddled lately. I hope the news from the doctor is a little more reassuring for you. Your Girlie Wisdom holds a lot of truths in it. :)

Looks like another one of those days. i thought I had posted a comment cause I liked the Girlie wisdom and the old codgers too.
Thanks for some great quotes and a good read.
Love from here!!!

Betty said...

I'm sure if I knew what the Dural was I might understand better. However, I do know that wait and see is better than surgery, so that's good news.

Continuing to pray for your husband. You're right... I have never forgotten to eat!

Thanks for the update of Rick's situation and the explanation. If it's not on the brain, and not outside the dura, it's likely in the sub-arachoid space, between the pia matter and the dura matter. Not a bad place for blood to collect, temporarily.

Blessings and Bear hugs to all.

Betsy Banks Adams said...

Great news, Sandie, about your hubby... Does he have any restrictions now??? I know this will always be on his mind. Hope he never has it again.... Glad you got that 2nd opinion though.

I loved the Girlie Wisdom... The one about never forgetting to EAT is SO true... Darn it all... ha

When I am at a doctor's office and he is explaining to me something of which I have little idea, I always wish I had brought a recording device with me so I can listen to it over again and have a better understanding of the situation.

Farida said...

God bless you and your husband, Ms Sandie. These are trying moments. Keep the faith and the humor alive too at home :) Nothing beats a positive outlook in life :D

Marie said...

I'm happy that the opinions were about the same. I also like that you like this doctor better. You always have a choice. I will continue to pray and think of you both. :)I really like the idea of bringing a recording device to the doctor's office.
I'm sure your daughter and grandson will be happy to be home! Hope they had a great trip!

Mary said...

Wait and see sounds good to me. Happy return of the youngers.

Jim said...

Good deal on Rick, Sandie! PTL!!!
It always helps when the other opinions all agree.

Mrs. Jim is small and I doubt if she will ever have a weight problem. Her Mom and Sis have had terrible issues but Mrs. Jim? But not me although with my latest two surgeries I have lost OVER 20 pounds. It might stay if I work at it.

Brain surgery reminded me of Jethro Bodine on the Hill Billies. He always wanted to be one. LOL, one of my favorite TV programs.

SquirrelQueen said...

It sounds like the new doctor took a little more time to explain the condition. And wait and see always sounds better than brain surgery to me.

Wishing your daughter and grandson a safe trip.

So good to hear that Rick won't need surgery! Liking the doctor is important too.
Keeping Rick in my prayers.

Debbie said...

Please tell me that my brain is not spontaneously shrinking. I didn't see the part about Emory when I was here at first. Either my computer is being all spooky (and she is... I'm having a whale of a time right now) or I'm getting more pea brained by the day.

Or, and I hope this is the one: I came before you had added it.

Which is it? (And it's OK to call me pea brained...)

Starry Dawn said...

Hi Sandie,
Thanks for sharing the updates on your hubby's health!!
I'll keep praying anyway, for your husband's full recovery and complete healings.
Florida is a good place to go on vacations. God may bless you all!!
