Wednesday Hump Day

HAPPY HUMP DAY!
Photobucket

Do you think that you use your car effectually?

Yes that is real people and their luggage.

I thought I did - until I saw these - my car is 12 years old - and is still wonderful - so that's good - right?  I love my Honda.  Do you drive a car until it dies or get new ones every so often?  Ever hear of Clark Howard - a money guru here in Atlanta - he says you need to drive each car for ten years.  That is the best way to save money for your future.

My daughter bought my Honda new and wanted to sell it for a new one.  So I bought that.  Then she was selling that one and my husband bought that one.  Now she bough another Honda - has paid it off for five years and she is going to keep this one!  We all have Honda Crv's!

I don't think our vehicles have ever been quite that packed though we sure cram it all in for a camping trip. We keep our cars; we have a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire and a 2003 Buick Terraza. Don't have plans on getting a new one any time soon.

I've never owned a brand new car but have kept the used ones a good 10 years. Buying a car that is only a couple years old that has low mileage on it really saves a lot of money. The car I'm driving now is 10 years old. I bought it used from one of my sons. I'm hoping that it'll last me a few more good years too. Hope your hump day is a wonderful one!

All of our vehicles that we currently own are ones we bought as used (10 yrs or older) and hubbs put in different used motors for each one with lesser miles on them (usually 150,000, as motors with less mileage than that cost over $2,500, and then you have to install it yourself!). We are still driving them. My current Jeep is a 2005, and hubbs bought it not running for $1,000, put a good motor in it for me, fixed the weird stuff going wrong in it, and that is what I drive to and from work daily. It has to be 4x4 for us, to get up our long lane in Michigan winters so both our vehicles are 4 wheel drive! Love Jeeps, so we have 2, and we have an old Ford Ranger 1999.

Gives the new meaning to car pooling.

I am with you, I drive it till the wheels fall off. I have a 95 Mazda with only 43,000 miles. Will take a long time for the wheels to fall off of this one. But I miss our mini SUV, hubby traded it in some time back for his car... so we found the RAV4 and I pray soon to get one. Will give my car to the church for someone that needs a great car and does not have one.

Honda's are great cars for sure, they run and run and run. we keep our cars for years and years. put 200,000 miles on them.

I have a 2005 Toyota Camry that I bought in 2006. I'm going to drive it until it won't go anymore. :)

Jill said...

I've pretty much done it all with cars...get new ones, buy used ones and/or drive 'em til they drop!

Tammy @ The Northern Nest said...

I like sedans but Hubby needs a 4x4 to get around in our winters. Christmas can see it packed to the gills to go to Ky but never as packed as these pictures....Hoot!

Those things are OVER stuffed!! LOL! I love Hondas. We had a little Civic for 15 years... I drove it, Amanda learned to drive in it, Zack drove it. GREAT car. I usually stick with one until it coughs up a hairball... but, I did get a wild hair to have my Mini and I love it. blessings ~ tanna

Our cars are old. My husband's has 160K miles on it. Mine has 85K - it's a minivan but we bought it used when I found out I was pregnant with twins.

I've had my car for 7 years and nothing is wrong with it so I will keep it until something major goes wrong or until something interesting tempts me.

Both hubby and I have Honda crv's and we love them too.

We always buy new and keep our cars a long time....the last one, a PT Cruiser, we kept for eleven years. There was really nothing wrong with it so we gave a young friend a really good deal on it and bought a new Chrysler 200. Hope it lasts at least eleven years.

We drive on our trips, so our car is packed pretty full ... but not quite that full. ha! I refuse to buy a brand new car ... hate the thought that it's worth several thousand dollars less just because I bought it. We've had good luck buying "factory cars" ... cars that the factory reps drove for 5-10k miles ... still with original warranty, etc. I'm driving a mini van (gotta haul around 4 Ts, 1 with a car seat and 1 with a booster seat ... none in the front seat) with 65k miles ... almost 7 years old (we've had it for 6). I plan to drive it until it needs repairs that exceed the value of the car.

That statement is true, about being stronger than you think. When we are forced into it, we can handle a lot.

We buy used and drive it until someone needs a vehicle in the family then donate it and find another used one. We have to be careful, not every vehicle will tow behind a motor home without some extensive modifications and protections.
The Saturn (older) and the Honda (older)will. We have an 04 Odysey, the last Honda you can tow without a tranny pump. So we will stick with it for another 5 yrs if we and it lasts.

I have a blue Honda CRV an love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have so much in common! lol. And my mom and hub have civic (mom had and accord, which she gave to me but then I got the crv!)

Cheri said...

I loved my HOnda CRV and almost wish that I had gotten another one but hubby wanted a car not an SUV. I like the car I have but I guess I am an SUV gal and will probably go back to that next time.

HOOTIN ANNI said...

Incredible!!! Can you imagine coming up on these vehicles on the road?!!

Oh, and about cars...We used to buy one every three years...then, the economy fell out of the bottom of things, and when you buy a 30k priced car and try and trade it in for a new one and get 2500 for a trade in value...well, that put a hipper dipper to our ways. We'll drive this one 'til it craps out on us. And I hope it never will.

My Buick LeSabre is 10 years old but I still love it. It takes me where I want to go. :-)

Lol Those pics remind me of some vehicles I saw on a trip to the Philippines. I'm a car addict. The longest I've ever kept a car was 6 1/2 years and it almost killed me :)

My husband drives a 2002 Ford Focus. Before that he was driving a 1986 Ford Escort until it died. We paid $800 for it from a co-worker in 20 years ago. He drove it for 10 years. Oh, and some woman hit him and we made money on the deal so the car was basically free.

I have a 2002 Ford Sport Trac with almost 160,000 miles on it. It still runs good so I kept it when we bought a 2011 Ford F150. We needed a bigger truck. Now I already have a vehicle for my daughter to drive when she turns 15 in November! lol

I love the fairy signature every time. Our vehicle is a Hyundai Tucson, similar to the Crv. We have really enjoyed it's versatility.

We've had many cars in our married life. Usually we buy a "new to us" (used) one every few years. Right now we have sold our XTrail and are in the process of finding something we like (and can afford). We want to buy a NEW car and it will only be the second in our life. Can't wait!

Susan said...

Hi Sandie....Wow, those car shots were something else. Well, I always buy used. My kids are both Honda kids. My hubs and I are Toyota fans. Both of those cars are long-lasters. Hope you have a good Wednesday. Susan

I'm easy with cars...my last one was a VW Golf 05 Sport...got rid of it because I really din't need it here in the city, it was just sitting there. My fav car is Audi, so might be up for one next time...Great post.
Have a great day!

We buy them used and keep them a long time! :-) My last car had to be replaced because someone rear ended me or I would still be driving it. Toyota is our brand of choice! I have an Avalon and my hubby has a Tundra truck. Amazing pictures, BTW!

Terri Buster said...

I keep my vehicles until they start acting up- usually after 250,000 miles. My last one I had for 11 years and this one is going on 12. My daughter just bought a new one and she told me they are running about 40-50,000 dollars now- so I may hang on to this one even longer!

Gloria Hood said...

We trade every 2-3 yrs. The vehicles are sure packed!!

Dee said...

The cars kind of remind me when people would try to see how many people would fit into a car. We have paid off a few cars and ended up giving them to the kids but in the recent years we trade them in after a few years.

Ann said...

wow those are some really loaded vehicles :)
My last car had one payment left on it and my husband wanted to trade it in on a new one. I was kind of hoping to go a while with no payment but I do like the new car

Ginny said...

I would hate to be driving behind one of these!!!! We always buy used cars, we cannot afford a new one. When my mom was alive, we would always buy another car and give her our old one. Now our kids got a new van and we are getting their old one, I am SO excited!!! We have never had a van before. This one is especially good because of my knees.

I have a Honda Pilot, 2007. I plan to drive it till it quits running. That always just makes sense to me.

Love that Clark Howard! We always drive our cars until they won't go anymore. Kids got the hand-me-downs, they still have not purchased cars of their own - son's car is probably 12 years old now. Ann

These were all amazing photos, Sandie! Imagine how long it took to pack up those cars and trucks.

My daughter has a Honda Civic and loves it! We also hang on to our cars as many years as we can.

Those pictures are amazing. My hubby and I have the same exact car, just different shades of grey. Both over 100,000 miles and running strong. Although his failed inspection today, it needed new tires. Lovely. But thankfully all is well! Enjoy your day!

Rose said...

We like to keep cars till they get a lot of miles on them...our Toyota camry had 150,000 miles on it and things started happening. My husband's cousin bought it in 2007 or 2008 and it is still going! But I would not have wanted to head to Tennessee with it.

Debby@Just Breathe said...

Those are certainly loaded down! I use to get a new car every three or four years. I now start to get the itch about every five years.
Hope your having a great day.
Love,
Debby

In the old days, LOL, we would get a new car every 5-7 years; my van will be 13 years old in August and I intend to keep it as long as it is feasibly possible. Hubby's car will be paid off in October and we aren't planning to replace it any time soon; want some time with no car payments ;)

How cute you guys all have Hondas!

Too funny with how one can overload a vehicle like that!!

I am not one for new cars...not as long as we have kids living with us. Just cannot see having kids in and out of the vehicle, sports equipment, pets and food in a new car. And the husband would FLIP if we did get a new one and any of the above listed was allowed in it. Besides, my butt has no idea if it's sitting in a new car or not...lol

I know I pack my car full but I sure can't pack it that full. We drive our cars until they start eating into our bank account.

Dear Sandie, Those pictures are fantastic! You always bring a smile to me face and fill my heart with spirit for tomorrow. Thank you.
I am driving my car for 8 years and it is still doing fine. Thank the Dear Lord. I am happy with my car.
Blessings dear. Catherine xo

Wow -- this sounds like my DIL's family! Only they, as well as DH and I, are Toyota-folks. I think Hondas and Toyotas are the best bet out there.
My car's "ticker" is approaching 200K ... she's an oldie but a goodie. I think I'd have to cry if we had to start making car payments again!

Betsy from Tennessee said...

Hi Sandie, First of all let me say that I love Jean's prayer spot.. Neat!!!

Well--you know that we drive our cars 'til they die... We've had our Toyota Prius (We are a Prius family --like you are a Honda family) since 2004--and we hope it lasts for a couple of more years!!!!! BUT--it has over 200,000 miles on it --so who knows!!!???

Hugs,
Betsy

I bought a new Brilliant Blue Ford Ranger, drove it thirteen years, then my grandson drove it two, then John drove it about two, and now his daughter drives it. At one time we had four Ford Rangers in our drive-way. Need I say we love our Ford Rangers?

Cheryl @ The Farmer's Daughter said...

We're a Toyota family like you are a Honda family! We keep our cars quite a long time. In fact, we just sold our oldest Toy a year or so ago and we still have one that we kinda keep as a spare. Like when I had to have my Toy (the newest car) repaired when a raccoon ran in front of me recently and tore up my front fender. I had the older car to drive while it was in the shop. Daughter has had a couple of Toyotas. They are like the Hondas in that they last a long time. BUT! Hubby drives a Ford pickup! The traitor. Hee hee.

I tend to get attached to my vehicles and even name them. I baby, pamper and sweet talk mine till they reach about 10 years or 200,000 miles, which ever comes first. I have always been lucky.

Debbie said...

Some of those shots kind of look like the INSIDE of my car if you know what I mean...

We tend to drive our cars until they beg to be put out to pasture. We've been married for 28 years and are on our fourth one so it's less than ten years though.

The husband had company cars for the first half of our marriage. They are making noises about going back to that model. I don't like it. I would rather he own his car.

Melanie said...

My goodness, that's a lot of stuff on those vehicles, especially the last one!
I'm still driving the Saturn we bought new in 1996. We brought Katie home from the hospital in it!! It still runs well, and I'm so sad that Saturn isn't in business anymore. They made great cars!!

Mary said...

Oh those vehicles are so amazing. I laugh when I think of riding in the car with my mom, she would swing her arm across us next to her in the front seat, when she stopped suddenly. In high school and college we piled everyone into cars..no belts in those days.
