Service Saturdays

Today is my great nieces wedding.  I personally wish they would wait until they were older, but no one asked me and I won't tell.  It's just such a long time  to be married when you start at 21.  You know - has she had any fun and has she sowed any wild oats yet?  I love them all to death.

So I apologize I have been trying to keep up blogging, emailing, but I am a little late reading posts - but I will - so don't give up on me - and next week will be a little rough too I am having company - but I will get to it.

Last week Carol from Imagination wrote to me about this little OFF device that her grandchildren had bought her.  She has BIG mosquitoes where she lives.  She said it worked and was like a miracle.

Now my grandson is sensitive to mosquitoes too and he welts up - one time he swelled so much his hand skin broke and got cellulitis.  So I bought him one as he was going to be spending all day with his dad outside for the 4th of July.   He did not come home with one bite.  I was really careful to go over instructions with him.  The good thing about this product is you do not have to put anything on your skin  and you can put that little unit near you and it puts a circle of protection around you.

Now Cheri from Chez Cheri-

I  know some of you own GUNS but this is something  to think about...
If  you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way  to wreck someone's evil plans for you. Did you  know this? I didn't. I never really thought of  it before. I guess I can get rid of the baseball  bat.

Wasp Spray
-   A  friend who is a receptionist in a church in a  high risk area was concerned  about someone  coming into the office on Monday to rob them  when they were counting the collection. She  asked the local police  department about  using pepper spray and they recommended to her  that she get a can of wasp spray  instead. The  wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to  twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate,  while with the pepper spray, they have to get  too close to you and could overpower you. The  wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until  they get to the hospital for an antidote. She  keeps a can on her desk in the office and it  doesn't attract attention from people like a can  of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby  at home for home protection. Thought this was  interesting and might be of use.

On the  heels of a break in and beating that left an  elderly woman in Toledo dead, self defense  experts have a tip that could save your life.

Val Glinka teaches self-defense to  students at Sylvania Southview High School . For  decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp  and hornet spray near your door or bed.

Glinka says, "This is better than  anything I can teach them."

Glinka  considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more  effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans  typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone  tries to break into your home, Glinka says  "spray the culprit in the eyes". It's a tip he's  given to students for decades.

It's also  one he wants everyone to hear If you're looking  for protection, Glinka says look to the spray.  "That's going to give you a chance to call the  police; maybe get out." Maybe even save a life.

Did you also know that wasp  spray will kill a snake? And a mouse! It will!  Good to know, huh? It will also kill a  wasp!!!

Eliminate ear mites. All it takes is a few drops of Wesson Corn Oil in your cat's ear... massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the cat's skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.

Now - Here is my disclaimer.  I never thought about having one on Service Saturdays - but maybe I should.  Some of my materials comes from forwards, some I see in the news, some I tried myself, and some others have sent me.  Now hopefully they will be true and will work for you. I am just a blogger like you.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Love, Chatty

I get welts from squeeterbites big time!! It's crazy, lol.

Hope your great niece's wedding goes beautifully! I'm 21, too, but not ready for marriage. She must be very mature and ready for it if she's getting married :) Wish her the very best!!

i am allergic to all sprayws, off and wasp spray, so if someone sprayed that in my face they could be charged with murder if it killed me. i am glad to hear the off thing worked for your son, where did you get it. the thing is i am allergic to off, so would not wear it, but hubby could use it in the garage, they eat him up while he is in his work shop. anyone that is considering using anything in the cats ears, call your vet first is my thought.

Tis a beautiful day here, and we are gonna try to get it right. But we all need to be reminded.
Sometimes life gets us just toooo busy. Hol onto your hat and have a good ride.
I am anxious to try the 'OFF' device. I wonder if it works for Black Flies. That would be a God sent to hikers.

I will definitely give that little dude a try on the 100 mile wilderness next month.
Thanks for all the good stuff.
Love from here

I'm going to get me one of those little fan devices for the OFF for next time I go to the cemetery. I have seen the commercial on TV and wondered if it really worked as well as they say.

I don't know how you manage to blog every day, and comment on so many other blogs too!

Yep 21 is young to be married, but hopefully they'll have a long and happy marriage.:)

"Getting it right" is a department in which I need all the help I can get. Most of the time I get it left.

I am so glad I stopped by today. I avoid putting sprays on my skin and refuse to put on anything with deet. This is such a great product and it's about time. Wish I would have thought of it myself. And the wasp spray - genius!!!! (unless you are wasp)

I know a lot of people who have tried a lot of different insect repellants and some work for some and not for others. At the camper we often turn on a fan to keep them away. The moving air seems to do the trick. I love your quote today and will try to remember that one. I'm going to a little reception for one of my nephews today. It's a 2nd time around for him and we're all hoping for the best. Hope your Saturday is a wonderful one.

Unfortunately, if an intruder is close enough for wasp spray to affect them, they're way closer than I want them to be. YIKES.

Don't worry too much about your niece, Sandie. I was married at 21 and have been married a long, long time. I don't think it's how old one is when they marry, but what their expectations are, how mature they are, and if they're truly ready to give 100% to the marriage. It's better to sow wild oats with your husband, I think. And unless they're already strapped financially with student loans or something, they have the opportunity to do all those adventurous things together. P.S. They told us it would never last. I think we have the last laugh. :-) Have a wonderful weekend! And congratulations to your great niece and her soon-to-be husband.

I hope your great niece has a wonderful day for a wedding.

I am very excited about the wasp spray one. I'm as excited about it killing mice and snakes than intruders. I think I'm less frightened of the human ones than the ones creepy crawling on the floor.

I have heard about the wasp spray also. It does sound like it would work. I'm glad to hear the clip on Off thingy works also. You are so good about visiting when you can. We all get busy and it's summertime also. Hugs, Linda

I wish your niece a wonderful marriage! I got married when I was almost 24 but I was 23! lol I've been married 20 years.

Glad the clip on worked for your grandson! We don't have many skitters around here. I guess because it dries up so fast or something. I don't know.

Hugs,
Angela

I had heard wasp was good for personal defense, but did not know it could kill a snake.

I could sure use that insect fan over here. We have lots and lots of mosquitos and Dengue to go with it. Too bad we can't buy that here.
Love the wasp spray idea too. Who would have thought?!

Best of luck to your great niece. There aren't any guarantees that any marriage will work-but with plenty of love and support I'm sure your niece will be fine.

Beatrice P. Boyd said...

Wishing your niece well on her wedding day. While she is young, there are others who married even earlier. Hopefully this gives her and her love more time together than many others who would wait, so, as always, there are 2 sides to everything. Thanks for the info especially about the wasp spray and glad to know ift will kill those pests as well cause I fear them the most of any insect. I'll have to try that OFF repellent as mosquitoes seem attracted to me too, but not Grenville.

sandy,

What a good post! I wondered about that gadget to wear for mosquito protection...that what I thought it was ...just another gadget. But I am going to try it...better than getting some disease from mosquitoes!

And what a novel idea with the wasp spray. I have a gun, but am not really comfortable with it, yet. So I will get a can of wasp spray! Thanks!

I got married when I was 20 the first time around. It lasted 21 years but maybe if I had waited longer and been more mature it would have turned out different.
Nice to know that glad thing works

My cat Cleo had ear mites her whole life - we never got rid of them. She didn't much care for the ointment in the ears and always had a greasy head. She thought the cure was worse than the disease. :)

I commend you with your daily posting through thick and thin...I just posted day 11 and I keep hoping something interesting occurs to blog about.LOL I am happy to hear that the mosquito clip on works... I was not sure about it and hesitated getting one ...now it will be on my next shopping list. I have heard good and bad about the wasp spray...I still think it would be better than a gun shot wound.Thw Wesson corn oil is a good tip I have not heard about...gee...I am coming away from your blog today with all kind of goodies. I hope you enjoyed the wedding....

You are too young to have a great-niece getting married.....Wishing them the best! But I know what you mean, it does seem a bit young, especially these days!

relax and enjoy all the events, Sandie. Take a mini blog break and don't worry about catching up on things until things settle down a bit!

That is good to know about the OFF. I saw this advertised yesterday on the TV, now with your "testimony" about it, I'll keep it in mind if we are outside around mosquitos.

So good to hear about the mosquito gadget. Princess is allergic to the spray stuff and is going to camp Monday. I will try to find that for her. She'll be in a very rural area here in Louisiana and sure needs some type of bug repellent. Thanks!

Hi Sandie....

Well, never heard of that wasp spray idea but it sounds good to me.

Yeah, I think 21 is WAYYYYYYY too young. Haven't had too much life experience at that tender age. And marriage is for a LONNNNNNGGGGG time.

I like to see young people date all kinds of people, travel, see and experience different cultures, go places, do things, get an education, work at various job, and THEN get married. Well, that's me.

Take care Sandie. Susan

I'm going to get me some wasp spray. Waking up with a chance to get it right! that's good. I hope I can go to bed thinking I got something right! Hahahahah.

I know what you mean about being 21 years young. :)
I love the info on wasp spray! I need to get a miniature can for my bag. :) I'm getting extra for my home. My husband mentioned it being poisonous and I said "I don't care if someone is coming in our home they get what they get!"
I can relate to being behind. :)
Love,
Marie

when i ever think people are to young i think back to 1100's to 1500's. in those days people where sexually active at ages of 12 easily and average marry age was 13 to 15 i think. but i with you on i hope it works out when 9 out 10 young marrges fail in the first 3 years. but i am rooting for them

Wonder if that device would work attached to a dogs collar to protect against heartworms spread by mosquitoes. I will go Google that now. Thanks.

I love the idea of the wasp spray!!! It does spray a long distance and smells like the devil...I'd use it and not a gun (I don't own a gun). Thanks for the good
I'm behind most of the time too, no apology needed.

Interesting post about the wasp spray...I'm wondering just what would happen to the culprit in a robbery [or other crime] if they DIDN'T go to ER. But, I gotta tellya, anything that'll kill a snake is GOOD in my book. I hate snakes.

Suzan said...

Sandie,
You were full of helpful info. this morning!!!!
My husband is like your grandson. He sits outside with me on the patio or even mows the yard and he has bites all over him. They don't touch me - now you know who the sweet one is :-}}
Also, love the idea of the wasp spray!! Such a GREAT idea. Never heard about it. My Dad was on the State rifle and pistol team, so when he passed, I got several of his guns. Growing up - I'd go out to the pistol range and shoot with Dad. My husband is hard headed and allowed the guns - but no bullets. So we have all these rifles leaning up against the fireplaces, but the only way to use them is by swinging the butts at the "bad person!"
I'll get the mosquito thing and the wasp spray when I get home!!
THANK YOU!!
Stay cool and hope you had a wonderful time at the wedding!

Hope it was a lovely wedding. We LOVE the OFF/CLIP ON to repel mosquitos. Really worked for us. Have to remember that tip about wasp spray. Too bad it doesn't come in a smaller size to put in your purse. Take care.

my daughter uses the OFF bug clip when she gardens and thinks it's great too. Bugs LOVE her...she attracts everything, but she's safe with that little thing.
