Wednesday Hodgepodge

Join us over at Joyce's Blog From This Side of the Pond and join Hodgepodge Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. What question do you often ask yourself?

Well you won't believe this - but I keep asking myself if my grandson should stay in private school or change back to public school.  I pray about it ALL the time.  The Christian school has so many more pros then the public school - but it's extremely hard with a LOT of work - that stresses ALL of us.  BUT - the question is - would the public school have equal or more stress???? I could go on and on, but this is what I ask myself all the time = the past year at least.

2. Do you grow roses? What's your favorite color of rose?  Ever been given a dozen roses?  Where was the prettiest rose or rose garden you remember seeing?

No, I don't grow roses.  My favorite is the white with the cranberry color on the edges and the pink ones - oh yeah the peach colored ones too!  Oh the ones that are roses and don't look like the typical rose - the ones that look a bit like carnations.  I have been given a dozen roses before and a single rose which meant a lot at the time.  And where is the prettiest rose garden - we have a place here called Gibbs Gardens and they are beautiful there.  A rose is a rose is a rose - right?

3. Do you read the freshness dates on grocery store products?  Will you use eggs past their 'use by' date?  Take medication that's expired? Buy a dented can?

YES I always read the freshness dates.  I will use the eggs a week or so past the date. I'll take medicine that has expired.  Buy a dented can - I try not too.  I do throw out a lot of food - and that makes me sad.  And I don't like to eat left overs - lol.  I am very careful about keeping a clean icebox!

4. Should athletes be role models?

Well let me say that I don't think athletes should be paid as much as they are - there are a lot of starving and needy people right here in this country that their money could go to - only saying...  And YES, for that amount of money, I do think they should be exemplary role models!!!

5. Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay of Nepal became the first explorers to reach the top of Mt. Everest on this date (May 29) back in 1953. What's something you hope to achieve in your lifetime?

I don't have any big aspirations like that - I never did.  I hope to bring glory and honor to God - and end up in Heaven with my family and  loved ones.  Being a child of God.

6. What would you do if you had twenty acres of land and the money to develop it any way you choose?

I would make homes or apartments for children with special needs - maybe different tiers - you know - different levels.  When parents die with special needs children - where do they go?
Or I would make a 3 year Christian rehab programs for addiction.  They would have to commit to three years and it would have to be run by strong Christian Leadership.

7. If I invite you to a party with a 7 PM start time, what time will I actually see you there?

7:15 pm  I think it is fashionable be a little late.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

These were good questions today.  Thanks Joyce for doing this.  Well summer is here.  My grandson is out of school and my daughter's last day of teaching - or work days,  is tomorrow.  So things will be changing here as I imagine a lot of others will be experiencing changes too.  Does going into summer effect those without children - I have always wondered that?

THE LAUGH:

Thank you Sandra! I agree.

THE LIFT:

“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.”

My girls are grown, but I still look forward to summer and feel differently because of the longer daylight, less time spent indoors, more active lifestyle and a change up in our menus. I love summer!

I show up at a party about the same time you do. Fashionably late.

I love the laugh. I don't care about the question either.

Love the lift too. Right on the money.

Have a terrific day my friend. Big hugs. ☺

#6 made me cry...

i tend to show up to an event early...if i show up late everyone seems to already be acquainted with each other and i struggle to take part in conversations.

happy summer!

Always love reading your answers and learning a bit more about you.

I'm going to give short answers today:

1. Why can't I just calm down and trust God?
2. Don't grow, love deep red, nope, roses on floats at the Tournament of Roses Parade.
3. Yup. Won't use ANYTHING past the expiration date.
4. I think so. It's part of the privilege of playing in the *big leagues* I think.
5. Toying with the idea of getting a Master's degree?
6. I wouldn't develop it. Maybe buy some horses.
7. 7:00 PM
8. Going into summer without children in school definitely feels different. I actually miss those school *markers* which made the year feel different. However, I still love the hot weather and sunshine of summer.

GOD BLESS!

I really love what you would do with your 20 acres. Education is such a hard thing. We want the best for our children. For us, that meant homeschooling. We move so often because of the military and it has cut down on a lot of the anguish and stress that they might otherwise feel. I know you will find what is best for your grandson!

I loved your questions and answers today. I'll tell you we, mostly me, agonized over the fact that we had to send our children to public school when it came to sending them to high school. They had grades K-8 at a private church school. We simply couldn't afford it. They did well and in some cases excelled as they had the basis of those years in the private school. All my worries were for naught. They adjusted well. One thing to keep in mind though is that there is a lot of peer pressure and you have to watch out for who they are keeping company with.

None of my grands attend private schools. They all seem do well . Who can say one is better than the other?

Sometimes I think it's all in the person and their attitudes.

Oh, the school question is hard! You know I homeschool. I would have considered Christian school but we didn't have one close. God will guide...

I always love to read your answers to the questions. I especially liked the development of 20 acres. Yours is a much better idea than mine. I was thinking of assisted living center for the lower income group. But YOur answer is very insightful and points to a SWEET trait in your personality.

I like your idea of providing a place for special needs people to live. We have faced that situation in our family.

I think with all the prayer that was given to your choice, you can rest in the fact that your grandson is in the right school, otherwise you would be getting strong signs to the contrary. About all the homework, the public schools here are awful with it as well. A six year old should not have piles and piles each day. So if you did move him, it may not be much better, it is like this in a lot of places. Two things; Does HE like it? And is he learning? Those two things are the most important in a nutshell. Getting off my soapbox now!!!

good questions and good answers.

Sandi, I love reading your thoughtful answers and getting to know you better.
If at all possible, keep you grandson in private school, Christian or not. A Christian school is wonderful if you feel comfortable with what they are teaching.
Our family has success stories on both sides. My children attended Christian schools and public. All three are faith based individuals and well educated.
That was 30 years ago.
My grandsons were a different story.
One went thru a Christian school and Christian university. He received a very sound education and is an awesome young man.
Two went to public schools in a metropolitan area. They were poorly educated and not equipped to continue education. Both are still struggling.
Two went to public school in a little town of less than 7,000 people. They got a private quality education in the public school system. One of those is working on his Masters and the other has his Masters in Nuclear Engineering.
I think you see where I am going with this.
I am praying for you as you struggle with this decision. This is a stepping stone for the future.
Love to you and your sweet family,
Ginger

My cousin teaches in a public school and is changing to a Catholic school this next school year. Public schools around here are horrible, with little to no parental involvement. I hope you receive the best answer regarding your grandson's eduction. God bless!

I loved reading all your answers and especially number 6. I'll just say I wouldn't dare go anywhere late after being raised by my Daddy. lol

Hi Sandie...I always enjoy reading your answers to the questions.

Well, have you asked your grandson what he might like to do?

I think it's good to challenge kids, but not to the point of beating them down into the earth.

You might do a pro and con list. Write down all the pros of staying in Christian school and then all the cons. Do the same for the public school. Then, take a good look at the lists. Your answer will be there.

Take care, Sandie. Susan

Good questions today, Sandie. I can imagine how you all will agonize over schools for the grandson. IF it were me, I'd keep him in the Christian school... Kids need to learn to do their own work --so hopefully, your grandson will gradually do more on his own. BUT--it's not me, Sandie!!! You all have to do what you think is best for him. I do know that there are many other kinds of problems in the public schools... SO????

Of course, we grow and love roses. I can't choose a fav. color since they are all pretty.

I check the freshness on produce and dairy products. I never take meds that have expired.

I want a cabin on the top of the mountain with nature all around --and of course a waterfall.. ha ha

Don't forget to check out my blogs today. I have a good birdie blog.
Hugs,
Betsy

My great grandfather had three hundred acres of land on which he cultivated various crops. When India was struggling for Independence, my great grandfather was killed and his killers told my great grandmother to take her children and all the money she wants and leave the land or else they would kill her children as well.So she fled for the other part of India to protect her children, my grandma being the oldest and only fourteen years old. My great grandmother then burned the ownership papers of the land that belonged to her husband and told her kids that they will survive on the money they brought back with them. They worked hard and made it in this world because of her.

I shall write the answers to the rest of the questions tomorrow.

ahhh, felt good to come here again.
I once read in our church bulletin:
There's a lot of good in the worst of us, and a lot of bad in the best of us. It doesn't become any of us to speak badly of the rest of us. I've always loved that.
Have a great day tomorrow...for today is nearly past.

My husband went to private school and for his junior year he went to public. He said it was so easy in the public school that he was bored. It just wasn't enough to keep him occupied after the hefty schedule he was used to doing everyday. I thought that was interesting. I've never attended a private school. I wish you luck with your decision.

mail4rosey said...

And one more thing while I'm inundating this with posts, lol, I'm going to tell my husband 15 minutes tardy is fashionable, not late. I hope he buys it. :D :D :D

As one who did the Christian school/public school debate, I can feel for you. I have said so many times that the education of my girls was one of the the most stressful areas of my married life. Just like you with the grandson, I wanted the fit that was right for them. I also agree that the stresses are two totally different stresses.

I love what you would do with your acreage if you had it!! Selfish me, I was thinking "hobby farm" while you were thinking about helping children.

Debbie hangs her head...

I love your answers to these Sandie...number 6 is great because so many programs are just not long enough. Financing it is tough. Re number one ...let me put my two cents in if you dont mind. I went to Catholic school as a kid k-12. My parents ran out of bucks (I was the eighth kid of a mill worker with a 6th grade ed and mom with a hs ed...so they worked hard) and was gonna do public school but I went to work so I could pay for my high school years. I never regretted that. When I see the education my public school peers complain about and also the limitations place on teachers in that environment...I think the extra stress and work was worth it...but that's just me. Good luck with that decision...its a toughie.
