Wednesdays Hodgepodge

Hodgepodge Questions-Vol 134

Here are the questions to this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.  Answer on your own blog, then hop back here to share answers- click here.

1. July 24th is Amelia Earhart Day.  Earhart was the first female to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.  What's something you've recently accomplished solo?
About 4 years ago I went to Alaska without my family for two weeks.  A first and last hurrah for me.  It was the trip of a lifetime.  I did more living in those two weeks then I sometimes think I did in all of the rest of my life combined.

2.  What's one product you use that never ever fails?
God.  He is the only thing that has never failed me.  I might wonder at times - but I know by faith he has not failed me.

3. Have you found your place in the world? Where is it?
I think the place I am is the place I should be.  I may not realize it or like it all the time - but I think it is right here.  I trust it is.

4.  Worst movie you ever saw?
We just saw Grown Ups 2 last weekend. Yuck. But the all time worst movie for me was The Exorcist.

5. What's the last fun thing you did?
We went to Build A Bear and made a bear for my grandson's birthday in Ohio.  They have a beating heart now, a smell, and it's a bit different then when my other grandson was little.  My hubs was so embarrassed!  But we did it. You can record a message and we practiced what we were going to say and went into the bathroom to say it!  lol   It was fun.

6. The month of July is named for Roman Emperor Julius Caesar...ever been to Rome? What's your favorite Italian dish?
I have been blessed to go to Rome twice.  Once when i was about 16.  Another time when I was around 40.  It was wonderful and I would love to go again.  My favorite Italian dish is plain old spaghetti with tomato sauce. Wish I was more exciting.  my all time favorite thing to do is people watch - sit in the cafes with a cup of coffee and just take it all in.  They drive crazy there too.
7. What is one piece of advice you'd offer new mom Kate Middleton?
Spend as much time as you can with him.  Over look the small stuff and it is all small stuff.  Have fun.  Love a lot.  Remember the time goes fast.
8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Summer for me is coming to and end .  I don't look at dates.  I go by the school year. And next week my daughter goes back to work on the 31st.  And my grandson goes back to school on the 12th of August.  So my new year begins.  I have been involved with kids in school - working at the school - grand kids in school - and daughter teacher school for some 30+ years.

my most fun thing i do is playing with my photos, i can't remember the last fun thing i did away from home...
and you are right the Exorcist was a horror of a movie...the one movie i suffered through was when i had just graduated from high school, 50 years ago and let me friend talk me into going to the show and watching West side Story. i do not like musicals, this doesn't mean it was a bad show, just that it bored me silly and it was 3 hours long and i thought i would die before it ended... and i bet there are people who loved the Exorcist to.

We loved Rome, too, but I actually liked the Tuscany region and Florence better. Would love to go again, but probably never will. Sigh.

It is so hard to believe that school days are right around the corner..summer has flown by and if we blink, it will be Christmas. Have a great Wed.

Your trip to Alaska sounds wonderful. I also like to travel by myself sometimes.
You are very wise to know that your place in the world is exactly where you are.

Never been to Rome. Naples is as close as I got. (Hey, does Rome, Georgia count?? lol)

Spaghetti with tomato sauce is my favorite Italian Dish also....

You are so good at the 'answers'!

Enjoyed the read as I sit here in Wyoming headed for Nebraska...

How lucky for you that you have been to Rome. I've always dreamed of going.

LOL at the funny!

We have been lucky enough to be to Rome too, and it's peaceful and pretty there.

My daughter wants to see Grown Ups and I told her nuh uh. She thinks I'm a fuddy duddy of a mom. :)

I can really relate to your two week trip to Alaska without your family. I did the same thing myself when I went with a dear friend to the Greek Islands when I turned forty. For those two weeks, I did what I wanted to do without any guilt of being selfish. If hubby had been along, I would have done what he wanted, as usual, and never had the adventures I did. It was so freeing. I promised myself that I would do it every few years, but never really did.

so, where is the grandson going to attend?

There is a Rome in Ohio too. I think lots of our states have cities with European names. I've never been to Rome but maybe now I'll make it a point to see what Rome, Ohio looks like. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

I laughed out loud with the laugh. Yes those teenage years are tough on parents.

Have a terrific day honey. Big hugs. ☺

I really enjoyed your answers to the HodgePodge, Sandie. Hope you have a wonderful day. It's 65 and sunny and feels a little too much like fall.

All good answers. I don't do well doing things alone...funny now that I live alone...good answer for something that never fails...He doesn't...more like we fail Him. I've never been to Rome...want to go someday..it's on my bucket list!

I'd love to go on a vacation by myself! It would be so much fun to do what I want when I want!

Geez, I can't believe school is starting so soon. Where does the time go??? And is your g'son going back to the same school?

Have a happy day!

I enjoyed reading your answers. The Exorcist was a movie I passed over because I had read the book and then dumped it in the trash where it belonged. You will miss your grandson when he goes back to school, but just think of all the fun projects ahead.

I agree that Grown Ups 2 was pretty bad but I love the people in it and I did laugh a lot. I love build a bear. Another year is just flying by and it upsets me. Debby

This is so early to start school compared to here!!! Here, it is the end of August. My favorite thing here...DO NOT sweat the small stuff, life is too short!!! My mother used to have an absolute fit very very small stuff. Then BIG stuff she was fine and never got flustered, like when I totaled her favorite car as a teenager.

Happy Wednesday!!!

I have a feral cat living here with me. My border collie (of blessed memory) adopted her from ally life on "The Hill." She takes very good care of me . . . on occasion she reminds others that she is wild and could tear them to shreds . . I think, perhaps, it is an act.

love & love,

Very cute. Love your answer to the one thing that never lets you down. Also... so funny that a movie made 30 years ago still sticks out in your mind. You're right tho - the Excorsist was awful!!

Wow---didn't know you had been to both Alaska and to Rome... I'm impressed.. Why aren't you still traveling some????

True--God never fails!

If I can't be in that cabin beside a waterfall on top of a mountain, then I'll choose here!!!!

Bet you had fun with the Build a Bear ---for your grandson. Neat!!!!

Summer does end faster than it used to... But---many schools get out earlier in May than they used to.... Be that as it may, it's been a SHORT summer... Me??? I'm ready for FALL.

Hugs,
Betsy

John went to Alaska and I stayed home because I wanted to. I had planned to clean house from head to toe and got sick and didn't do anything. He has two sisters who have lived in Anchorage for years and it was his first time to go. As for alone--it wasn't recently but I lived alone for eight years after Mel died.

Ann said...

wow, kids go back to school early there.
I don't see very many movies so I wouldn't be able to tell you which one was the best or worst...lol

Joyce said...

Wow-school begins in the middle of the summer, especially for teachers. School doesn't begin until after Labor Day here...course they went into late June, but I think I prefer the late exit to the early opening.

Fortune smiles on you...travel, loving being home and knowing God never fails...great stuff. God has been so good to me, too, minus the travel. I'd love to still see Alaska, tho. My all time favorite place to be is our cabin, just Bill, me and the wildlife, or me alone with my sketch pad and the good book.

Our KP made a bear last week at the Build a Bear here in London.

I liked following Amelia Earhart. About the last thing I did was to read a Historical Fiction about her. One of the books on my list to write is a Historical Fiction
Version of Amelia Earhart's life (or some of her adventures).

God never does fail us. Sometimes, like death of a loved one, we might think he did. But God's plans are not our plans and we don't know everything in His plan. For sure people, pets, and friend are not meant to live forever. Neither are we, here on earth. Heaven awaits for the believer.
