Medicine for the soul - with a little help from my friends of course . . . .

“Every now and again take a good look at something not made with hands- a mountain, a star, the turn of a stream. There will come to you wisdom and patience and solace and, above all, the assurance that you are not alone in the world.”

                                                            Thank you Catherine .

Okay so has life got you down today?  Kind of hard to be down after seeing this fella being so up.

Or this one....

Okay and now what about some pictures that make you say awe?

My personal favorite . . . awe. . .

And a little humor  . . .

and a lot of other things too................

Very true.

Chrispy Chatty Crone

I LOVE THIS ONE - one of my favorites.

On going discussion... Aging

So last week we talked about the courage it takes to grow old - We joke about it a lot.  Saying the Golden Years and that growing up isn't for sissies.  That is all true.  When you get older - and you are in the throws of old age - you do think of things that you never did before.

I used to not care what I did with my time.  Now I am more cautious what I do with my time - I just don't want to waste it.  All moments become more precious.  I want to love more and hate less.  Laugh more cry less.  Dance more sit less (at least in my head).  Listen to music that makes me happy not sad.
Can you think of other things?   Do you know what I mean?

Saw a movie a recommend - ABOUT TIME - it starts off very odd, but it is excellent.  I am going  to try to give you the lesson.  It was a about being able to go back in time.
This man would go back in time and 'fix' things he did wrong until he got them right.

Then once things were really good he enjoyed each day.  Yaddy, Yaddy, Yaddy, but it ended up where after awhile and learning things he had to give up to get the life he had he didn't want to go back anymore.  He had to go forward.

The ending was that he didn't go back in time anymore because he learned how to do things right the first time.  Wouldn't that be nice?

The lesson was - if we lived right the first time - we would not want to go back and there would be no regrets.

A little update on the house - can you tell me what this is?

Okay okay - this is our first attempt at removing wall paper.  It had threads on the outside - that came off fine - but the paper underneath is still there! Took us all day!

My laundry room looks like a bomb hit it.

It's a mess as you can see in the photos!  Who the heck invented wallpaper anyway?  I am trying to get the house on the market and it is further away from getting on the market!!!

Well my husband knee is now blown - he has something called a Baker's Cyst. So he is out of commission.  Is that inconvenient at this time or what?

We have decided to call someone to remove it and to paint the house.  Oh vey.

THE LAUGH:

(DANG I LOVE THIS ONE TOO!)

And what about some good things to think about?

THE LIFT:

Be careful what you break.

Well, the first one on here today. You have so many good ones today. The brave boy with the artificial limbs, so young but looking like he could conquer the world. and grandson and Disco. To many to name. thank you for giving us something to smile about.

I wouldn't miss your Fridays for anything. Sorry about the wallpaper. I loved all those what are they called, squares with sayings in them. I stole to Live like the gate is open. Thank you so much for taking the time in the midst of all the stuff at home.

I love the little boy's smile and the elephant too! You have so much good stuff here today. The last two I completely agree with! I've walked alone a few times. :)
On my move from Orlando to Cary would you like me to stop and help you with your house? I'm all warmed up. LOL!

Lots of uplift and smiles today. The little boy with the artificial legs is amazing.
I hope things go smoothly going forward toward getting your house on the market.

Excellent post today! Removing wallpaper has to be one of the most gruesome household jobs ever! Good luck with that.

Those pictures really put things in perspective don't they??

Ah hah! You've come up with the best idea yet...have the pros do that stripping and painting! I like the dog ra ing to get through the open gate. I have seldom felt that way, but I'd like to give it a whirl.

There were so many things I loved about this post - it would be hard to pick a favorite. Of course, I am also a little biased toward the cute picture of GS and Disco. Ah, nothing like a boy and his best friend...

The young boy with the prosthetic legs - oh my. Touched my heart so much. Made me smile and tear up at the same time!!

I suppose the one thing that will stick out in my mind is the quote, "When things don't go right, go left." Sometimes I forget that when I'm in a bad place emotionally, I can choose to leave!

Have a great weekend!

Oh dear...I'm sorry to hear about your husband being out of commission. It's funny, wallpaper was so popular 20 years ago and now it's "out." I believe it will make a comeback someday, but not for a while. Everything goes in cycles. I'd love to have wallpaper in the bathrooms at least, but wouldn't dare put any up.

Algebra? When is the last time you diagrammed a sentence? :)

What a lovely post. I can so relate. You and I are on the same page with things.

I'm sorry your hubbies knee is blown. Bad timing indeed. The pros will make light work of that wallpaper. You'll see.

Have a fabulous day honey. Big hugs to you and tons of scritches to Disco. :)

Love the "awwwww" images!

I had a baker's cyst when I was young. (at least that's what they said it was at the time) Had to have the sucker surgically removed. NOT FUN!

Rose said...

Loved the picture of the brave little boy.

Sorry, your hubby is out of commission with his knee.

Time to hire a handyman to help remove the wallpaper and get on with the painting.

Best of luck and a speedy recovery to hubby.

I'm going to have to go back and read through this post a couple of times, I believe...there is so much in it...

What better combination is there...wisdom and humour.

Thanks for both, Sandie...you've started off my weekend brilliantly. :)

I just blew it up and printed it. It is not his trunk, it his his foot. Just as awesome.

Every thing was to my liking. I loved it was I scrolled down reading the captions and there was GS and Disco. That brought a smile.

Loved all the quotes and wise sayings. Always wonder why I cannot come up with just ONE witty saying. (lol)

I hate wall paper, Maybe not hate, just terribly dislike, ESPECIALLY the removing thereof!!!!

I am crispy also, with a slice of soft cheese on the side.

Oh, the woes of wallpaper. So many of us question "what were we thinking back then" when we are trying to scrape the mistakes of our past off the wall. In my last house, I got it off in one room, but gave up in the hallways and just painted over it. I know it was wrong, but it worked and a couple of hours after putting the house up for sale, it sold.

Aw, Sandie, I love that pic of the little boy. So true, as one of the other commenters said, 'puts things into perspective.' Also love the SWEET photo of your grandson and Disco. Is that cute or WHAT! ♥♥ Have a wonderful weekend.

I never have liked wallpaper. When I was first married we lived in an odd upstairs apartment with a tiny kitchen with maroon wallpaper with large white birds on it. As for Algebra it is a good thing I didn't need to use it because I don't know it. I was ill the first three weeks of my freshman year so I missed out on it. The teacher told me well you'll catch up. I didn't.

Have a restful weekend and still prayers for you all.

I've taken the easy route and painted over the wallpaper heer in my kitchen. I know it's a nasty job and I wasn't up to it. So far so good. You can't tell unless you look closely. Sorry to hear about your hubby.

Oh, a Baker's Cyst! When I had to stand 8 hrs on a concrete floor at the library circulation desk I developed a Baker's Cyst. Misery. Took forever to get rid of and mine came back 3 times. I feel for your husband. I didn't have surgery, just R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compress, elevate). If you mix 2 parts water to one part rubbing alcohol and pour in a used water bottle (allow room for expansion and mark well so no one takes a drink!), it will freeze fairly slushy instead of frozen hard (hard ice hurts), then just wrap in a towel and place in the bend of the knee for a little relief. Elevation and staying off the leg helped the best, but when you work the opportunity for laying around for months with your leg elevated is not likely to happen. I feel for him, and for you trying to get the house ready to list. Bless your heart, hang in there. I loved the photo of Andy and Disco. :) Wish I lived closer and could run over and give you help and hugs.

Dear Sandie, So glad you like the picture and it is so nice to see it here. I think we are very similar and have a lot of the same likes.
Your post is always uplifting and brings a smile and feel good attitude.
I know what you mean about growing older. It is not a time to waste time and letting go is difficult but necessary to stay in a good frame of mind.
I hope your hubby feels better soon.
You are truly a dear and a good friend.
Blessings for a beautiful weekend. Catherine xo

When we sold our home to move here it was a nightmare of paint and painting. I don't know what I would have done if my daughter with her super energy had not have come to our rescue!!!

Get those lazy Mormons across the street to help you. LOL

Smiled at these. Good, indeed. Wallpaper is a royal pain to remove, no doubt about it. Sorry to hear about your hubby's Baker Cysts. I have two, so I know how he feels.

Great post this week! I loved those first pictures. My sister's niece (grand niece) has just recently had her little leg amputated due to cancer. That will be her "normal" for the rest of her life. She is 3. It has been heartbreaking, but if you could see how much she has adapted and the smile she wears on her face, your heart would be warmed as well.

It also brings us a daily reminder of the saying, "I cried because I had no shoes. Then I met a man (or little girl) with no feet.

I also loved that one near or at the end about the broken dish. AMEN. Someone has thrown me on the ground recently just like that plate. What's worse? She hasn't apologized and likely won't. She basically just yelled at me for being broken.

I am so sorry about the knee! He doesn't need that right now. I hope you get all the wallpaper stripped. We had it in every single room in the house but one when we moved in. I wouldn't touch the stuff now with a ten foot pole. What a royal pain to take down.

I remember when I was a kid we bought a house that my parents spent ages removing wallpaper from. I remember how awful they said it was. Just take it one step at a time. It'll all come together.

It would be nice to do everything right the first time. :)

Hope your hubby feels lots better soon.

Hi Sandie,
I am sorry about what happens to your husband's knee.
I think it's a good idea to hire people who can remove the wallpaper, and paint your house.
I'll be praying for the best of all of you, dear friend.
My desktop computer broke down.
Then, I borrowed a small laptop to type this post for you.
I can hardly read small prints, due to my poor eye vision.
I do NOT PLAN TO BUY ANOTHER DESKTOP COMPUTER...
I am saving money to buy a ticket to New York to see my dear family again. So, I am sort of broke in any other way.
Good Luck in all you do, Sandie.
Greetings from Starry.

Hi Sandie .. life is a hurdle - knees shouldn't go wrong!

But we continue to laugh and smile way through all our verisimilitudes - if that's remotely the right word - I looked it up and am not sure even now - but it looked fun!

You'll get there .. but people are people and we think their lives come to an end when they lose a leg or an arm .. but no - they do their best to improve their lives .. love that kid ...

Cheers Hilary

Remember the old comedy bit where a mild mannered fellow goes crazy when he hears "Niagara Falls"? That would be my husband at the mention of "wallpaper"!

My godmother had a Baker's Cyst so I am somewhat familiar with what your hubby is feeling. Truly is rotten timing, not that there would ever be good timing for an ailment.

Good luck with house progress and to your hubby too.

What a really grand post, Sandie!! I wish I would have been there to help you with that wallpaper & I agree with you 100%.... WHOever invented that nasty stuff to begin with. *haha* I will never wallpaper again unless it's a VERY small area. Otherwise it's paint all the way. Live & learn, I guess.

Have a grand weekend & enjoy watching the fella you hire remove the rest of that wallpaper. It's a lot easier with a cup of tea in hand, watching from an easy chair! :-D

Love ya~ Andrea
