Sunday is Sister's Day

SISTERS . . .

I AM LUCKY NOT TO KNOW!

AND TO MY BLOG SISTERS!

A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot humid day, drinking iced tea and visiting with her mother. As they talked about life, about marriage, about the responsibilities of  life and the obligations of adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her glass thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance upon her daughter..

'Don't forget your  sisters,' she advised, swirling the tea leaves to the bottom of her glass. 'They'll be more important as you get older. No matter how much you love your husband, no matter how much you
love the children you may have, you are still going to need sisters. Remember to go places with them now and then; do things with them.''Remember that 'sisters' means ALL the women... your girlfriends, your daughters, and all your other women relatives too. 'You'll need other women. Women always do.'

What a funny piece of advice!' the young woman thought. Haven't I just gotten married? Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a
married woman, for goodness sake! A grownup! Surely my husband and the family we may start will be all I need to make my life worthwhile!'

But she listened to her mother. She kept contact with her sisters and made more women friends each year. As the years tumbled by, one after another, she gradually came to understand that her mother really
knew what she was talking about.  As time and nature work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman, sisters are the mainstays of her life.

After more than 50 years of living in this world, here is what I've learned:

THIS SAYS IT ALL:

Time passes.

Life happens.

Distance separates.

Children grow up.

Jobs come and go.

Love waxes and wanes.

Men don't do what they're supposed to do.

Hearts break.

Parents die.

Colleagues forget  favors.

Careers end.

BUT.........

Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you. A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open  arms at the valley's end.

Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you....Or come in and carry you out.

Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law,  sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers, Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended
family: all bless our life!
The world wouldn't be the same without women, and neither would I.. When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the  incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other.

Every day, we need each other still. Pass this on to all the women who help make your life meaningful.

I just did.

Thank you God for my sister and my blog sisters.

I don't have a sister, but I have been fortunate to have some very good sister/friends. I love that my two daughters are the best of friends.

Hey Sandie! YOU are for sure one of my Sisters!! And it is so true about women's friendships. I know I couldn't survive without my girlfriends! One of my "real" sisters passed away 29 years ago, but I'm so thankful to still have my other sister. We just saw each other last weekend! She and her hubby drove up from Georgia! Hopefully, I'll get back down there sometime fairly soon, and you and I will definitely get together again! Big Hugs!

This is deliciously sentimental. I'm passing it on to my own sister whom I celebrate sister's day with her each March 18th...just the two of us!!

Love the hour glass and extra minutes figure too by the way...'cept mine would probably be a month glass with extra hours!!!

I never had a sister, just 2 brothers. My mother told me in later years that I cried when my only cousin was born...a boy! It's a rough world when you are surrounded by males. Haha!

I love the pic of you and your sister all dolled up. Where were you at?

Thanks for being my blog sister! Have a great day!

Even for boys, this is important.
But since you made it the girls thing, I do know a little about that. I married three sisters. YOu got one you got them all. They were a joy to be around, and the best of company. Now they are gone, Sherry and I both miss them.
My older Sister was wonderful but departed the scene too soon. I have Shirl left, We lean on each other, so I still have MY sister.

This is a VERY GOOD POST and subject....
On the road tomorrow!!!

Love does make the world go around and sisters, even those who are more than your own natural sisters, are who make your life more bearable.. Love ya sister Sandie. xxxx

Starting Over, Accepting Changes - Maybe said...

The longest relationships you have in your life are with your siblings. Brothers don't keep up and connect as much as sisters. Sisters will usually be there for you from beginning till end. I am blessed with two sisters and a bother and I know that they will always love me no matter what.

Hi Sandie, sister and friend,
Happy Sister's Day, my dear friend! It's always great to find a place where many friends/sisters gather to chat and have a good time. I love the picture of you with your sister.
Unfortunately, I do not have siblings, no brothers, no sisters.
I also have one daughter, but 3 grandchildren. I hope to have great-grandchildren eventually when they grow up, so that I could have a big family. Anyway, I feel that my friends are like my family.
Have a blessed Sunday and week ahead, Sandie, sister and friend!
God bless you, and those you love!
HUGS, Starry.
