Monday Meanderings

The name of the winner of the Woolzies is number 42 and I think that was Tanna at The Brick Street Bungalow .  Please send me your full name and address.  I'll contact Woolzies and they'll ship it to you!  Thanks for playing and this Thursday I have Coconut Oil to give away. I wish I had some for everyone.  Sandie

I also saw this one night on the Discovery Channel. Walmart, Publix, Wynn Dixie, and other famous grocery Store Chains sell these fish. Do not buy any fish from China, or Thailand. I have studied this. The cleanest fish are pollock and cod, from Alaska, Washington, Oregon and California waters. Flounder from Pennsylvania, Shrimp from Texas through the Florida Coast. (Gulf Coast Shrimp) Oysters from Texas to Apalachicola Fl., Pond raised catfish from Arkansas are the best. but the Obama Administration has put so many restrictions on pond raised fish, many have gone out of business.. Also Bainbridge Ga. sell pond raised shrimp, scallops, catfish and tilapia.

Thank you Sharon and Monica

A word to the wise.

Asian Catfish Farms
We purchased Basa a year ago; it looked and tasted good. Being from Minnesota, I got curious as to where it came from. The fish basically come from a watered-down septic tank. No more Basa in this house. Now you may find Swai; just another name for Basa. You will also find Basa on some restaurants menus, possibly under another name.

Asian Catfish Farms.... You gotta see this!!
The next time you order Catfish, or any fish-- keep this video in mind. You should be asking yourself, "Where does it come from?"

Basa fish is just another name for catfish.

After seeing this video, I would never buy it as I don't like anything that comes from polluted waters in Vietnam or China or Bangladesh.

You can now cross catfish (BASA fish) off your menu... Just look for the "Made in Vietnam label."

Most of the Asian markets and restaurants use these fish from the Mekong river! This may also be the steamed white fish fillet they serve in many Chinese restaurants.

Credit Card warning and thank you Ann.  Do you have Wi-Fi on your new credit card?

Something I found kind of interesting was about packing for a trip - I am the worse.

IMPORTANT  INFORMATION!!

Thanks Sharon.

CCC instead of CPR
Please take a couple of minutes and watch this...you never know.

Every minute of delay will decrease the survival chance 10% and delaying 5 min puts survival in 50-50% zone!
This is a relatively new procedure for assisting individuals who are experiencing a heart attack.  NO CERTIFICATION, NO MOUTH TO MOUTH REQUIRED.  The important thing is to do it NOW!
I hope you all take the time to watch this short video.... You just might save a life!
This short video shows exactly what to do if someone near you collapses and is presumably having a heart attack.
You could save the life of a friend or loved one.
The one you share this video with could save yours one day.
Please pass it around. This is the best demonstration I've seen and the simplest explanation.

My grandson turned 12 this weekend - he loves UGA like his uncle!

  1. Happy birthday to your grandson!

And about the basa fish- wow. I will be checking the labels very carefully from now on. Thankfully, we are close enough to the gulf that we can buy fish fresh caught, but every now and then I will buy some of the frozen. Not anymore!

Thank you for the website on packing....I am going to Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska and Iowa with my NEW FAMILY ... leaving on 5/4 and returning 5/18 - I never have been gone that long so I need this video. Perfect timing!

Have a heavenly day my friend!

  8. Yikes on the fish. I didn't know this.

The credit card video is scary. You made me check mine and I don't have that. Thank goodness.

Love the grandma got me. That's right on the money.

    Have a terrific day. ☺

  12. No Basa for me. My husband and I used to love Tilapia, then we saw Dirty Jobs. Tilapia are bottom feeders and like to dine on Bass poop. We no longer eat Tilapia; we prefer fish who enjoy more gourmet type foods.

  13. All so interesting, Sandie! And I really enjoyed the packing tips. When we travel, no matter how long we're going to be gone, we each take only one carry-on. It's amazing how much you *don't* need to take with you, and how a little planning and organization cuts down on the space required.

    Happy Birthday to your grandson.
BTW, we never buy fish that's from anyplace other than the U.S. I've never understood why U.S. farmers have to follow all the U.S.D.A. regulations, but we allow the free flow of food products from other countries who do not have those regulations. Makes no sense to me.

  18. hi Sandie! Hope your weekend was great and restful. Happy Birthday to Andy!!!

I am really enjoying your blog and all of the wealth of info each week. We stopped using our hairspray that was made in China because of your write-up about it.

Thank you dear friend!!! Happy Monday!!!

  19. Happy Birthday to your Grandlittle, Sandie!

I watched that CPR video, and it's SO important. Thanks for sharing. I know CPR (or did years ago) so this is very good to know how it's changed. I also took lifesaving courses in terms of water safety.

    XO,

  22. I came here after posting almost the same title on my blog this morning. Nice cowinkydink. :)

The fish video makes you sick, doesn't it? I don't cook much fish at home but do enjoy it out. I wonder if all restaurants know where their supplies are coming from? Nothing is completely safe anymore, is it? :(

Speaking of not safe, I am going to check my credit cards after I'm done here. I will be sharing that clip with my friends and family.

I love the Grandma got me picture! I bet at 13 it is a little harder to get your grandson like that, at least when anyone else is looking. Happy Birthday to him!

  28. The piece about credit cards was sufficiently chilling. So many of us have no clue! Except I think that modern technology leaves us at risk so many ways. To quote Scotty from Star Trek, "The more complicated the equipment, the easier it is to mess it up." (Or words to that effect.)

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  43. Happy Birthday to your grandson...12..he is growing up on you :) where does the time go? I am glad you showed the video about the credit card...I have seen this information before and Frank was going to put foil liner in his wallet. We forgot so I will remind him right away. I would think as easy as it is to get your money and identity stolen that they would make it easier for victims to get things straightened out. PS I will not be eating fish for awhile yuk :(

  48. I like to keep frozen tilapia on hand, but all the bags say Made in China. Ugh. I bought Swai from Target and did not like it. At all. Threw it away without finishing the bag. Thanks so much for the info! Surely being so close to the Gulf of Mexico, I should be able to find fresh, frozen fish!

That video on fish was an eye-opener. I thought all our fish from other areas was inspected. I was WRONG.

And the credit card stuff? YIKES. That is horrible.

  53. UGA should be a good school. I am thinking that it started with a different name. We have a lot of UT's here in Texas. The first one was in Austin and still is the largest of the system.
