How To Not Act Old - 21 lessons . . .

Happy Birthday Boss - I put his video on below - well he'll get you going on hump day.

"You can't start a fire sitting 'round crying over a broken heart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Hey baby"

Have you ever danced in the dark?

Neighborhood Update - we made Channel 11 news today! Here's our progress.

We are still imprisoned in our neighborhood - no school. No mail. No packages. Yikes! I hate been pinned in, but at least we are safe. I really don't like the feeling of being pinned in - but it will surely be soon now that the entrance/exit will be opened. And I have to remind myself others are having more troubles than I, but . . .

This is from a magazine called More - for people over 40 - ahem - well, I get these magazines for free from my friend Richard, he's a Mr. Mom and his wife (a doctor). She gets tons of magazines for free - so I get them handed down. So I read a lot.

Anyway I kind of found this magazine kind of interesting. Here is an article that struck my interest:

How Not To Act Old by Pamela Redmond Satran

1. Unstrap that Rolex - young people do not wear them. Young people check their time on their cell phone! And try to flip the phone open with one hand. And try to see the numbers without having to put on your glasses!

2. Don't spout any history - If it happened before 2001 who cares?

3. Avoid direct confrontation - If you defriend someone - just stop returning their calls or defacebook them.

4. Don't leave a message - the other person will see who called and will call you back.

5. Don't cook a roast - No one under the age of 40 knows how to cook a roast.

6. Don't fear the waxer - You can have all the work on your body done, get botoxed and restylaned till your smooth, but if you don't wax down there, anyone who gets that close like in the locker room - will know you are old! Old below the belt.

7. Don't arrive at the crack of dawn and make every one feel guilty they weren't there as early as you.

8. Don't bring the donuts - you don't need to be mommy of the group.

9. Don't punch the clock metaphorically - don't treat your job like a prison where you can't get out of until you serve your time.

10. Stifle the self-aggrandizing anecdote - reminiscing about the time you almost . . .

11. Don't be tough the young gestalt is much softer and less direct.

12. Don't stay glued to your chair - get up and walk around. Don't roll your chair from place to place.

13. Don't do long range planning - looking too far ahead and wanting firm commitments on times and places far - meaning a day or two - into the future, is an old thing.

14. Don't be a human archive - always knowing the history and telling everyone about it.

15. No lame parenting advice - just because we have been though it doesn't mean they want to hear about it.

16. Don't be Ricky - One person acts young and one person acts old - like Lucy and Ricky - Lucy got to have the fun - Ricky is old. Abbott and Costello . . .

17. Don't block the aisle - people will think you just can't keep up! Keep alert in the grocery store!

18. Type with your thumbs - The young dial their phones and texts with their thumbs!

19. Don't yell in to your cell - Just because they are little doesn't mean that you have to talk loud to compensate. You can even speak in a softer voice - people will hear you.

20 - Don't fear the teenager - they will change back in about 4 years.

21 - Cancel the trip to Provence - 50 year olds to there and don't go to Tuscany either - that is Provence with spaghetti. How about Berlin, Croatia, Lebanon . . .

Hmmm, so what do you think about this list and do you or do you not want to 'appear' younger than you are? It's another choice we have . . .

Love,
Chatty

Being older is a privilege....I already was "young"........ clueless, self-indulgent and reckless:)

That's quite a roadblock in your neighborhood Chatty!
I don't mind being older either...I'm so much smarter, more mellow, kinder, more appreciative.
I like me more now...it's the crow's feet, achy body and lack of energy I don't like!

I kind of agree with the two of you. That list - well, some seems a little selfish and self centered. Some are okay. I find it hard enough to be me - let alone try to change into something I'm not!

Thank God your computer is staying dry! I would so miss your posts!

I'm laughing but at the same time sending you best wishes and hoping things improve soon.

Virtual hugs. Sallie (who is way way older than you are)

I think a young person must of written this - it seems once you get older - you get more content with who you are. Hopefully anyway - I'm still a work in progress.

Being older is a more relaxed way of living! Loved your post today. Hope your roads get repaired soon - no more getting lost in the woods for your hubby!!!

I'm old. I love to plan, couldn't even find my watch without my glasses and would happily take a week in Tuscany. On the other hand, I liked Croatia and Berlin, too and do like to get up and do.

Hope your neighborhood comes back to normal very soon.
