Rainer Maria Rilke

Be patient toward all that is unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves.- Rainer Maria Rilke

This is a problem for me. I'm always trying to resolve the problems in my life. I must admit to you that I don't 'like' unsettled things. It makes me feel like I'm in limbo land. That's a signal to me that I need to work on that issue with myself.

I love this quote - what it says to me is - embrace (accept) all this is not resolved (in my life) - be patient (breathe) - live in the now anyway (even if I want things to change) - love the questions (when will I'll get to where I want to go) and the uncertainty (of how I will get there) - the answers will come when the time is ready.

What do you think? Rainer was a woman - with an interesting background - can't wait to get to her birthday. Sometimes the questions drives me nuts! Should I do this or should I do that!

Happy Birthday to Dr. Joyce Brothers (famous psychologist)

An interesting fact:

Brothers gained fame in late 1955 by winning The $64,000 Question game show, on which she appeared as an expert in the subject area of boxing. Originally, she had not planned to have boxing as her topic, but the sponsors suggested it, and she agreed. A voracious reader, she studied every reference book about boxing that she could find; she would later tell reporters that it was thanks to her good memory that she assimilated so much material and answered even the most difficult questions. In 1959, allegations that the quiz shows were rigged began to surface and stirred controversy. Despite these claims, Brothers insisted that she had never cheated, nor had she ever been given any answers to questions in advance. Subsequent investigations verified her assertions that she had won honestly. Her success on "The $64,000 Question" earned Brothers a chance to be the color commentator for CBS during the boxing match between Carmen Basilio and Sugar Ray Robinson. She was said to be the first woman to ever be a boxing commentator.

I loved your take on the quote. I have the same problem. I want it done now, not next week. Very interesting fact about Dr. Joyce Brothers.

Love and Hugs,
Joyce

When I was younger I spent much of my time trying to make life fit the role I wanted it to play. Now that I am older I am content to let life write it's own scenes and play it out in it's own time. So I am very in tune with your quote. Thank you for sharing.

Very thoughtful and insightful post, and comments from others.
I had no idea that Joyce Brothers won that quiz show in the 50's!

Joyce -

I am learning so much from researching these birthdays - I'm trying to find the obscure facts.

The quote - I love it too - the whole poem is longer - we are supposed to be getting something out of the waiting!

Stella -
Wish I was there - I feel your peace.

CDM -
I love the insights from others - just love them.

I agree with Stella's comment -- she said it so much better than I was just going to.

Benefit of getting old(er).

Wait a minute - I'm old too - I'm still full of questions and wonderings. I want to find contentment and peace.

My motto for this part of my life is "Pray more and worry less." I don't always make it, but that's my goal.

Man that is so true - just praying and leaving whatever happens in God's hand - why didn't I think of that -
