How did you know that I celebrate the wild side?

I received this award today from a friend of mine - a fellow Georgia peach . . .

it's from Linda over at A La Carte. I always have a great time visiting Linda's blog (check it out) - she's a wonderful woman and I would know that because I met her at the Valentines Day tea last week (the Georgia Peaches) AND I met her yesterday for lunch. Gee we had a lot to talk about.

For this award I'm supposed to tell you some things you don't know about me - trouble is I've been blogging for four years - and I'm an open book.

First though I want to share my gifts with you. She brought me a Valentine's gift and birthday gift. I have a magnet collection - I love magnets - and every time I go somewhere or do something I buy a magnet (how did she know that?). The sides are full too - I just took them down and cleaned them all - one by one a couple of weeks ago.

The one she gave me is the one in a shape of an 8 that has Valentine hearts on it. The flower one was made by Monica at ExpresslyCorgi.

Linda also gave me this book called It's A Chick Thing - Celebrating the Wild Side of Women's Friendship - this book is RIGHT up my alley - trust me.

Thank you Linda - very much. :)

"It's life, Sidda. You just climb on the beast and ride." - Vivi Abbot, in Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, by Rebecca Wells.

The rules are that I am to tell you 7 things new about myself and then pick three (?) others . . . so here goes . . .

1. I saw the Beatles here in Atlanta in 1963. In 1964 my dad put my brother and I on a Greyhound bus and sent us to the Worlds Fair. I was 11 and he was 17. I cried from the minute the bus pulled out until it pulled back in - ten days! My brother didn't know what to do with me -so every city we went to - he let me see the Beatle's movie HELP - I'd stay there all day (remember the days you could do that?) And I missed Washington DC, The Liberty Bell, the Worlds Fair and everything! I didn't want to go, but I had no choice.

2. I saw my grandson come into this world. When my grandson was about 2, I gave him a butterscotch - he choked on it and was turning blue - we were at the store - I have to do the Hymlick Maneuver on him. I can still remember his brown eyes looking at me to help him! To this day I do not give him any hard candy!

3. I have something in common with Elizabeth Taylor and Joanne Woodward.

4. I read about 3 books per week. I've written, and my son had it published, a book called, "Full Circle." I have started my second one called, Without Him, I'm Everything.

5. I am going to be a God-mother to my brand new niece and nephew! :)

6. I believe in education. My son is a Pediatric Cardiologist, electro physiologist -don't have a clue what that is. My daughter is a special needs teacher with two degrees - one in psychology and one in teaching. I feel funny braggin, but I am proud of them.

7. I have an animal in my attic - for weeks now, have tried everything. I hope it is a squirrel and nothing else. He or she is very smart.

I am passing the award to Monica at Expressly Corgi, Angela at West Virginia Treasures, Linda at Country Corgi, and Betty at a Corgi in Southern California. Please know you do not have to do it - only if you want to do it.

Happy Birthday Thomas Edison - Did you know he had dyslexia?

Born in 1847, Thomas Edison was a brilliant scientist and inventor. He was thrown out of school when he was 12 because he was thought to be dumb. He was noted to be terrible at mathematics, unable to focus, and had difficulty with words and speech. It was very clear, however, that Thomas Edison was an extremely intelligent student despite his poor performance in school.

In the late 1860s and early 1870s electrical science was still in its infancy and Thomas Edison was keeping abreast of the latest developments. He was an avid reader of the latest research of the day and frequently contributed articles about new ideas in telegraph design to technical journals. Over the course of his career Edison patented 1,093 inventions. Edison believed in hard work, sometimes working twenty hours a day. He has been quoted as saying, "Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration."

Hard work and perseverance helped Thomas Edison focus his keen insight and creative abilities on the development of ingenious tools that have laid the foundation for our modern society.

What do you think of that?

Oh Sandie sweetie...
Growing up my Daddy always called me Chatty Cathy, and for my birthday even bought me a Chatty Cathy doll. I talk fast, like someone from the South, who would've guessed I was born in Charelston?

I love that quote you left for me. Friends are the family that we choose for ourselves. Thank you for being my family. You are such a pleasure to visit with. I feel as tho I have known you all my life when I read your blog.

Can you imagine putting 2 youngsters on a bus today? Those were they good old days weren't they?

I finally boxed all my magnets up, I just couldn't stand it anymore. It got to be so much work cleaning them.

Have a beautiful day sweetie. Thank you for stopping by. I love it when you do.

Country hugs and so much love...Sherry

Wow. Comment # 3 has me intrigued. Joanne Woodward and Elizabeth Taylor? Does it have something to do with Paul Newman? Both of those ladies were in a movie with him. And, uh, one of them married him.... Hmmmm... You must tell. I'm a serious P. N. fan.

It's fun learning more about you. Quite accomplished kids you have. I'd be so proud, too! And who better to brag about them than their mom?

And BTW, thanks for saying such sweet things about my sweetie, David. He was thrilled to see how much your little guy enjoyed the pics. Now I see he should've sent you a magnet!! :p)

Hi Sandie!

Oh my goodness.......I would have been homesick too. When I was a kid and went to stay overnight with a friend the last thing my dad would say to me was "we'll see you about 11 Cork....." (Cork being my nickname :-) ) And, he would. I got so homesick. The only time I was ok was when I stayed at my BFF's....she only lived about a house away.

I saved my little guy too! Chicken. Good think we knew that maneuver! That chicken went flyin'!!!!!!

Holy moly..........you've got quite the collection........it's so nice to have special things given to you by those special to you. They always elicit a happy memory, don't they?

Big hugs..........Nitey nite.....
Spencer

I think that Classy Chassy beat you to it, but I'm so glad that you like my blog well enough to choose me, too, for this award. Thank you so very much! If you want to see my answers, they are on this post: http://countrycorgis.blogspot.com/2009/11/we-got-award.html

As for your answers, they were really interesting fun facts. I know that you are proud of your kids and what they've done with their lives. What a blessing!

That is SO SCARY about your grandson choking, but it is so good that you knew what to do! I've had to use that on two things... a special ed. student in class who choked on some food, and one of our dogs, along with CPR (he was about 5 or so when I did it and he was my "Shadow" - also his name- for the rest of his life-- 17 years old)
