It's a snowy day in Georgia . . .

These are rare photos - you don't know how really rare they are. I have lived in Georgia for 25 years. This is one of the three or four snowstorms we've had in those 25 years.

Nothing to the people on the east coast or in the north I know. We have 3 main differences, no snow removal equipment, all hills and curves - not much flat land - we are in the hills at the base of the Appalachian Mountains, and number three snow is great - but our temperatures rise in the day - the snow melts, and then the temperatures go down at night - making what is dangerous fro us with hills and curves - ICE!
View looking out of my driveway.
View looking out of my driveway to the right - it is so incredibly beautiful on the trees.
I do need a better camera and I have been asking around the types of camerasother use - or is it the photographer? You can tell me and give me hints.
My house - where in the attic - we have some squirrels running around keeping dry and warm - at least I hope it's squirrels and nothing else. We have done EVERYTHING. Just don't want to pay an exterinator. Any suggestions? I feel like Caddyshack - I mean we have done everything we know - there are traps of all shots, foods of all sorts in the trap ....

Happy Birthday to Tennessee Ernie Ford/Wikipedia
Over the years, Ford was awarded three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for radio, records, and television. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1984, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1990.

Offstage, both Ford and wife Betty contended with serious alcohol problems. He was able to work for years, seemingly unaffected by his intake of Cutty Sark whiskey, but by the 1970s it had begun to take an increasing toll on his health and ability to sing. After Betty's substance abuse-related death in 1989, Ernie's worsening liver problems became more apparent. In 1990, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. His last interview was taped in September 1991 by his old friend Dinah Shore for her TV show. His physical deterioration by then was quite obvious.

I was little, but didn't know he had a drinking problem.

Wow! I had no idea about the alcohol issues but I sing Break Thou the Bread of Life almost every day and have for years because of TEF. When I was young (and I do mean young) I stayed with my grandparents during the day and in the morning my grandmother would tune in to his show. I must have been 4 or so but I heard him sing the song on the show and I remember it well. I've been singing that song as part of my morning ritual almost every day of my life. His music inspired me...still does.

Those pictures are soooo pretty! I wish we got snow every once in a while, but that doesn't happen in Southern California much.

I took some photos of the snow yesterday. It is pretty but now with the sun out it's melting, which means...ICE. You are so right, up north they are prepared for this, here it shuts us down. Stay safe.

Beautiful shots, Sandie! :-)

If it's squirrels in the attic, you need to know that they can do more damage than rats. I would call an animal trapper, and they can get them out of there. You must have a small hole (all it takes is one the size of a quarter), where they are getting in. I went through this with squirrels, and they got it fixed. They got one of close friend's houses, too. They can trap humanely.

XO,

Sheila :-)

Beautiful pictures. Even down here we got about 3 inches. We were so excited. Haven't been like this since about 1989. It's melted off of the trees already and is slowing melting in the yard. But its going to take a while.

A pretty view for you, despite having to be housebound, for safety's sake!
Had no idea about T. E. Ford's drinking probs. He was so likeable, and a much loved singer.

I think y'all have more snow than we do. What a bizarre winter. I loved to watch TEF when I was growing up and often think of "16 Tons" when I am heading off to work. Keep warm and cozy!

I agree with Magpie - you are going to need to call an exterminator! They can probably show you where the little blighters are getting in at, so you can plug the openings and keep the rest of their friends outside!

i hope you are able to stay warm and cozy along with your squirrels, at home enjoying the beauty of the rare snowfall!!!!
i wish i could tell you how to get the squirrels to move out but i can't even get my 25 year old to, so i'm not one to ask advice on this issue. when you find the answer let me know!

Hey Sandie!

The snow is just beautiful at your house! We almost have the same style of house as yours! As for the squirrel, "Where's Eddie?" "He usually eats those * things!" lol If you can find how it is getting into your attic you can get some spray foam insulation in a can and fill up the hill with that! When we built our house my husband went under the house and filled up every little opening that a furry critter might could come in the house from with the spray foam insulation.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hi Sandie..."Cool" snow pictures. (Literally and figuratively. ha!) By the way, Sandie, I'll let you in on a secret. I love Canons and Pentax cameras but they are veeerrrrryyyyy pricey. My husband got me a Kodak digital at Walmart for Christmas...less than $100....and it takes GREAT pictures. Almost all the shots on my blog are taken with this new camera and I LOVE it. I believe if I took a close-up of a bumblebee, my trustee little Kodak would capture the tiniest hairs. I LOVE it. Check it out. I liked Tennessee Ernie Ford. May his soul rest in peace. Sincerely, Susan from writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com

snow is pretty, Sandie; I do like it on the trees, very pristine looking

I can see why it would be difficult to cope with it if the town is not prepared with snow removal machines, de-icing machines, etc. That's how Albuquerque was, it didn't get much snow so when it would come, schools would close, people would panic etc

and I agree with you, driving on ice is no fun at all

Hi Sandie!

Isn't the snow just beeee-u-ti-fulllllll? We don't deal with it too well here either.....We do have snow equipment, but it doesn't snow often and people don't know how to drive in it.....and they are CRRRazy! It's scary. Some snow around here might be a good thing....things are realllly ugly right now. The grass is all smooshie and brown and the plants are all pretty dead. It's not lookin' good in the NorthWET...Pretty gloomy stuff.

My daughter had a squirrel in her attic too. It seems they loved running up the walnut tree, buzzing along a branch and hopping on in. She finally called an exterminator.

I have a Canon G-9.....I think they've come out with the G-10 now. I've seen several other girlies on the blogs have them. The pictures are pretty good, I think. I have the pink Canon I carry in my purse for photo-ops...... :-) I've been pretty satisfied with both. Other than that I know NOTHING about photography. I so wish I did.

Better run..........I have my boy and he needs to get to bed.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Big hugs,
Spence

I think snow is gorgeous... SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Where I can visit and don't have to STAY! I always make snow cream, too, whenever I'm around snow (not yellow.) My Mom always made it, and we've continued whenever we visit a snowy place. Take a bunch of clean white as powdery as you can get snow and pack it into a cup. Pour some canned milk over it, add a 1/2 tsp. of vanilla, and sugar or sweetener to taste, and stir until mixed. Simple and oh, so good!

I've ALWAYS loved TEF's singing, and have some of his CD's... So sad to hear of an alcohol problem. Hope he licked it with God's help.
