Sunday's Gift to you . . .

Here's a good lesson and a gift for you today - the five finger prayer.

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood.
The next morning while they are eating breakfast,
The young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside.
"That laundry is not very clean", she said.
"She doesn't know how to wash correctly.
Perhaps she needs better laundry soap."

Her husband looked on, but remained silent.

Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry,
The young woman would make the same comments.

About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a
Nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband:

"Look, she has learned how to wash correctly.
I wonder who taught her this."

The husband said, "I got up early this morning and
Cleaned our windows."

And so it is with life. What we see when watching others
Depends on the purity of the! window through which we look.
(Thanks Jerry - that is a great thing for us all to remember.)

Now here's a gift that kind of goes with the above - a good way to remember things:

The Five Finger Prayer -

1. Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C.... S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty."

2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction.. Keep them in your prayers..

3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president no matter how you voted, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.

4. The fourth finger is our ring finger.. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger, as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.

5. And lastly comes our little finger - the smallest finger of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

You know you are too old to Trick or Treat when:
10. You get winded from knocking on the door.

9. You have to have a kid chew the candy for you.

8. You ask for high fiber candy only.

7. When someone drops a candy bar in your bag,you lose your balance and fall over.

6. People say: 'Great Boris Karloff Mask,And you're not wearing a mask.

5. When the door opens you yell, 'Trick or...' And can't remember the rest.

4. By the end of the night, you have a bag full of restraining orders.

3. You have to carefully choose a costume that won't dislodge your hairpiece.

2. You're the only Power Ranger in the neighborhood with a walker.

And the number one reason Seniors should not go Trick Or Treating...

1. You keep having to go home to go to the bathroom!

No matter, have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN anyway.

 God Bless You.

Oh Sandie! You delight my heart each time I visit! You are an amazing lady and this prayer post is so touching to me today. We just put an offer on a house and now the wait begins! I am trusting God all the way on this one. We are dealing with a wonderful young woman who is the realtor and I am hopeful God wants us to have this home. The too old for Halloween trick n treating cracked me up! I am so late visiting everyone but once I stop in I do back as far as I can from the last time I visited! Hee Hee! Anne

I love the five fingered prayer. Really beautiful.

And that story about the dirty laundry/windows...SO true. It's always so easy to point out the flaws in others..but to overlook them in ourselves. If we dealt with our own ugliness first, others might not look so bad.

Blessings and hugs and a happy Sunday to you.

Love that prayer, too. I’d probably have to write it down like on your illustration though to remember it! :) Getting old is the PITS!

Got my chuckles, as usual!

You know you're too old to trick or treat when:

#11 - you realize that your "Mummy" costume is really sagging skin...

Thanks for the 5-finger prayer. How fun! I'll have to remember that, cuz it seems like I do a lot of "pinkie praying" - and I neglect the other ones! Hmmmm...

Oh, funny Halloween! I would change that last one, though, to say: You have to ask each homeowner if you can use their bath room!
