Wedneday - Hump Day - Chatty Thinking . . .

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.  - Chief Seattle
Sometimes, and I have been guilty of this myself - in fact many times - we think that the world revolves around us.  That we are so important or that everyone is looking at us.  When in truth - we are but just one thread of life.  We are a team if you will and we should act like a team.  Help others.
The fabric would not be beautiful at all if it had the same color thread through out - we need different colors to add to make life have some color and complexities.   Right?

“Among the qualities of mind and heart which conduce to worldly success, there is one, the importance of which is more real, and which is generally underrated in our day...It is courtesy.”  Herbert Schiffer -
Do you think courtesy is a good thing?  And do you think you see courtesy in others?  Are kids being taught courtesy these days?
There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.  - Ben Williams
I just love that one and how true it is.  You just can't stay down and out when you have a pet.  I know some people can't because of allergies, but for those who can - it's a miracle.

What we must decide is how we are valuable rather than how valuable we are.  - Edgar Z. Friedenberg

Remember the poem Footsteps - this reminds me of it - that to me is what's valuable.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.

Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.

Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,

other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed

that during the low periods of my life,

when I was suffering from

anguish, sorrow or defeat,

I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,

"You promised me Lord,

that if I followed you,

you would walk with me always.

But I have noticed that during

the most trying periods of my life

there have only been one

set of footprints in the sand.

Why, when I needed you most,

you have not been there for me?"

The Lord replied,

"The times when you have

seen only one set of footprints,

is when I carried you."

I love the saying "There is no better psychiatrist than a puppy licking your face" that is SO true. And as for the people with allergies... I know a few who keep themselves on medication because of allergies, because they LOVE animals.

Lots to think about and ponder in this post, but yes, I think courtesy is imperative to a happy civilization, and I think it is sadly lacking. I have a problem with these television shows that teach people to be so pushy and self-centered, so much so that courtesy becomes a weakness to them. Courtesy is, always will be, a strength.

Sheila :-)

I absolutely agree with you. Whatever happened to "polite"???? I think courtesy and good manners is a great thing - and no, I don't think kids are being taught that. If they are, it isn't sticking with them - because I see an awful lot of them with "attitude."

As far as the puppy thing - oh yes, nothing better. When I visit my sons, and I get to sit in the recliner with their beagle, Marty, curled up SO CLOSE - that is a sliver of heaven for me! I can almost physically FEEL my blood pressure go down!!

"Footprints" is a favorite of mine - loved your picture!

We absolutely need "threads" of many different colors - who wants a fabric that's only beige?

Loved the Friedenberg quote - Amazing how a simple rephrasing changes everything...

Wonderful as always! I love the puppy love, or in my case kitty love. On a bd day they can make it all better just by being there!

I think courtesy is definitely lacking in our society today. I see children (and adults) doing things today that if I would have done that when I was growing up, I would have had quite a sore backside!!
What a cute picture of the dog and boy. It reminds me of Andy and his dog. :)
Footprints has always been one of my favorite poems...it's so true.

Lovely, thought-provoking post, Sandie. I DO think courtesy is important, and, sadly, it is severely lacking in our society. I think teaching courtesy and respect to our children went out with the 1960's.

Love the picture of the puppy licking the face. Looks like a beagle...my favorite kind of dog (we have 2 of them).

Wishing you a lovely evening.

Love,
Patti

I do think courtesy is a good thing. I'm not sure if kids are getting taught it, but I'm hoping they are. I tried to teach mine courtesy, but then look at the lady who "ran" you over at Sea World, she certainly wasn't courteous.

You are so right, we sometimes think it is all about us, but of course it is all for God's glory that we are here and for his kingdom being advanced. Yet we do think the world evolves around us.

Hi Sandie,

Thanks for the visit! I used to have Footprints in the Sand stuck on my fridge. I needed to read it a few times a day when my 17 month old daughter became diabetic (my mother had just passed away). You know the old saying when it rains....Thanks for sharing all your words of wisdom.

Great post Sandie.
I was thinking the same thing the other day about courtesy. Over on these neck of the woods, there are a lot of adult men who dress like five year olds and their manners are lacking too. I teach my boys to be courteous and kind. This boosts their self esteem.

Loved the picture and Foot prints poem.

I have marveled every day for the past five years in the friendship my dog Slim has brought into our home. She is The Best Dog In The World and I tell her that every day. We do not take care of her, she takes care of us and everything on the estate. I've had lots of pets and loved them but never one as dear as my dog Slim.

Oh so true. MANY people, young and old are not courteous anymore! Great post, Sandie!

The "Footprints" really helped me a lot when my oldest sister died from a brain tumor, many years ago....I always think of her when I see it.
