Receiving a black belt...

My grandson's belt has been hanging in this spot for about 2 1/2 years. They start out in a white coat and when they make a decision to go all the way to black belt their coat changes to red - The Black Belt Club and they get their black belt and it hangs there for them to see their goal.

This is how they do it - they call up all the people getting belts from white senior - today someone got their second degree black belt. So near the end the brown belt senior is called. Their were two who made it. They say of 100 starting - two will finish - here they are.

Next they turn away from the flags to do any belt adjustments - out of respect.

They turn around and then the black belt will be tied.

The man tying the belt on is one of the Masters Of Choi Kwang Do - he is 5th degree black belt.

He is now an official black belt given to him by a Grand Master.

Out of all the past belts and all the degrees he may get - the first black belt - is the biggest deal. Because you never go to color again. And they made a big deal out of it.

This is his family of black belts and instructors that helped him a long the way.

He has earned the title of being called SIR - not here though - lol - just on the DoJo.

Thanks so much for letting me brag on him a few days. I'm done. He starts training tonight for his 2nd degree black belt - it will take around 27 months. And out of the 100 that start one will go this far!

I've been playing catch up and you have every reason to be proud of your grandson, Sir. What a wonderful experience for him.

That Eleanor Roosevelt quote is one of my favorites too.

This is so wonderful! Please tell "Sir" that he has a cheering section in the blogosphere. What a confidence builder these skills must be, not to mention a good way to learn control while blowing off some steam. YAY! Ann

Brings back memories. My son took a form of Martial Arts - there are many. He started when he was 12 and got his black belt at 16. He was the youngest one in his school to achieve that - at the time. He went on to get a second black belt in another form.

It was excellent for him. He learned control and ways to deal with his temper. He was also small for his age so it helped him as he moved into High School.

I have many pictures like these. I will have to get them out again - he is 37 now! :-}

Thanks for stopping by my blog as well.

Yes, we do have alot in common ... one thing that hit me right off the bat was your love of Pugs!! I have a "grand-dog pug" named Grimace, and he loves me beyond all reason - even more than he loves his Papa!

And how can you not love that!! :-)

He will be the ONE that gets that belt Sandie! Congratulations to Andy on getting his black belt! Sir Andy! lol Funny thing is I call my son Sir a lot every since he was a baby! lol We were eating out when he was 3 or so and I looked at him and said are you ready to leave Sir, some old man looked at me and then looked at my son. He thought I was talking to him I'm sure and not my son! lol It was funny!

Have a Great Weekend!
