Show and Tail! with Angela at West Virginia's Treasures

Please join Angela at Show and Tail Tuesday.
Every Tuesday she has us tell a story about our pet, a pet story, or an interesting story about pets or animals.

(Today this video was sent to me from Jerry who it was sent to by Ann.) I just thought this was so great and so interesting!

I ran into this quote - "Be like a postage stamp. Stick to one thing until you get there." - Josh Billings

Now I was thinking (lol - like when do I stop) - anyhow - think about that quote - how long do you think the man above stuck to training that shark? A day, a month, a year? I bet years and years and years!

I think about my grandson's black belt and took 4 1/2 years.

I thought about school - and basically we go about 19 years plus.

Becoming a Christian might take a second - but years of being faithful.

Learning a musical instrument, dancing, etc.

I think when something is important it takes time.

My biggest problem is my diet. I want to go on one. Yet my mojo is just not there yet! You know when someone all of a sudden goes on a diet and they do it! Nothing can stop them. Something has clicked for them. What is it?

So do you have anything you've done that takes time? Do you have something you want to do and can't get your mojo up? Or tell me what made you click!

Beth here....wow, do I ever agree. We really have to have our heart ready to go into somethings! If we aren't ready, we just AREN'T ready!

Hello Sandie!

I sure can identify with the losing weight desire. That's been a long time coming to me (decades). Don't know when the final push will come or how but I'll never give up.

Couldn't get the video as it required Adobe Flash Player. booo hooo

Let's see. It took a long time to develop faith but it was worth the wait. Now, I know where to go when troubles come.

It also took a long time to develop all my many collections----crystal, dolls, miniatures, etc. That wait, of course, was fun, fun, fun as I got to go to hundreds of yard sales. ha ha ha

Take care, Sandie, and have a wonderful Tuesday! Susan

I'd have to agree that the diet thing is my hard-to-do thing. I really really need to lose weight but it seems like I'm waiting for a heart attack or something to get me motivated.

first let me say, the man in the video is NUTS! one day we will read about him in the news and it will not be how he trained the shark. what is the thinking?

i like your quote of the week at the top of the page. and anything worth doing takes time, all of the ones you mentioned.
i first thought about my cameras. each time I got a new one i had to learn what it would do or not do, i have been digital photos now since Feb 2002 and am still learning. my little point and shoot i have had for 18 months and just found 2 things i did not know it had.
the hardest thing i have done since i retired was learning photoshop and i only know the basics. i struggle with anything new and when i first started a couple of years ago, told my friend rich, i was not going to do it and quit. i said it's to hard. 3 weeks later, i went over to his room and said ok I am going to DO it. and i did.

I agree with Sandra. Watching him with the shark made me nervous.

As for dieting, I hope you find the answer and share it with me ASAP! Right now my mojo wants to go out for a hot fudge sundae made with coffee ice cream. Want me to pick you up?

Well, knowing that I have to be in wedding pictures in a few months has made me start eating the Atkins way - low carbs. Hard to do when stress is around, but I've done pretty well for about a month now. I also started going to a gym about 6 years ago to lose weight and get healthier, so it's taken many years to change my habits and learn better ones. Sometimes I slide backwards, but at least I have the choice to start the climb again. Ann

Sandie,
when I really need to do something that I've been putting off like ironing or tackling a room...I'll set the timer and promise myself that I will work at it for at least thirty minutes...then before I know it I'm really into what I'm doing.

It took me a life time to be comfortable with myself - to be content being alone and just by myself (ok, with Gizzy!) but for the longest time during my youth, I was never quite at ease with being just me. Too many people to please and places to go and things to figure out...too restless.

I need to fall in love and that will curb my appetite because I can not eat when I'm "in love" I feel already full!

Wow, that guy in the video was kind of brave and stupid mixed into one!
Interesting though!
I wish I could tell you about the weight loss thing. I've lost it and gained it back, grrrr. I need to find some more mojo!

That video is still just plain scary, is he out of his mind? He must be "The Shark Whisperer"! Did he hypnotize it or something? Looks like it! A few years ago, something clicked, and I started a diet, just one that I made up, a sensible one. I broke over on weekends and it still worked. I stuck to it two years and lost 50 pounds. Didn't have to shop in plus sizes anymore. I was so convinced that if I stuck to it for two years, I always would. Wrong!! One Christmas, I went off it, never to go back. I gained it all back. When I think of that time now, I wonder what happened? Whatever gave me that willpower ? I was like a different person! This is why I have a skinny clothes closet and a fat one. I hope I get the willpower again, it would help my knee! I have lost a lot of weight being sick, five pounds just last week. But the doctor says that is not the way to lose it!

I can't believe that guy in the video is able to do that. It would scare the heck out of me.
I've been wanting to start exercising but I just can't seem to get myself to do it. No mojo :)

WOW! This was INCREDIBLE! The nose is the most sensitive part of a shark, which makes this even more amazing! Obviously this diver was extremely calm, patient and gained the trust of the shark...

I totally agree with you. I really enjoyed this post. I too am struggling with my weight. I thought I had it dialed in and it clicked...but I fell off the wagon. It's not the diet, it is a change in attitude. Smaller portions, better choices, less white stuff, less potatoes, less bread...less sweets... it is clear to me I have evolved into a person using food (the wrong food) for rewards, comfort and to fill my loneliness for my kids and grand kids....

The older I get, the harder it is to lose weight...our metabolism slows down and it is more and more difficult because we become less active.

On the bad days, I get so disgusted and just figured what the heck...and keep on eating...

First of all, I'm having a little "JAWS" flashback here...

Love the quote. So, some thoughts on things that take time. First of all, my diet - I think the thing that "clicked" for me was the realization that if I didn't do something about it at my age, it was going to affect my health. And frankly, I didn't want to go out and buy bigger clothes either...

The one thing I want to do that I just can't seem to get the mojo going - is some sort of exercise program. Dieting got me thin - but I'm still not in shape...

I wish I could get my mojo up to lose some weight. How do we get that????

Hi Chatty -

Love the stamp quote!

If you have a vision for the end result, it helps you get through the daily grind of getting there.

Example: Writing a full-length novel. I've managed to write two manuscripts so far.

Blessings,
Susan :)

Great post! For me, it's the journey after writing. I mean, the novel itself takes time, which I anticipated. What I didn't realize, is how much perseverance it would take to get the thing published. I'm still working on that. But I'm not giving up any time soon, and in the meantime, I'll keep on writing. Thanks for sharing! :)

that was neat about the shark video, Sandie. I don't think I could do that, but you are right, he's probably trained a long time to do that; he looks like a natural in there; I forgot they were sharks after a bit and thought he was around "friendly" animals, LOL, as he was feeding them and petting them!

It is hard to get your mojo; I know what you mean. I'm working on the dieting but it still is a struggle to make the right decisions and get up to go and exercise.

I think we get so wrapped up with the all or nothing concept with dieting that we often set ourselves up for failure from almost the get go. I think if we start making gradual changes. So maybe it takes a year or two to lose the weight, but then it stays off, know what I mean? But we want it off right now, though it didn't come on right now but took time. So start making little changes without thinking diet, more like healthy choice, make sense?

that's what I'm trying to do

Thank you for giving credit to Ann. As in regards to diets, the only one that I have been able to stick with is the see-food diet, which has made me twice the man I should be.

I would love to see fish swimming under water! I don't think that will ever happen though. I can't stand under water for nothing! I always float to the top! lol
