How do they make candy corns?

Okay not too many takers on the cake - how about candy corn?

and may I say that it hurts when they come off - but are they are tasty - and the dirtier and smellier the better !

Seriously now -

I have been thinking about age - and I'm 58 1/2 - almost 60 for all intent and purposes. We also talked this week about living to 100.

I think the conclusion was - if we are healthy that would be great, but if not - then we don't want to be a burden on anyone. Imagine all of us agreed!! Then another friend brought this to my attention - you sure don't want to outlive all your friends and family. I didn't even think about that - but that is so true.

I read this forward and you know there is a lot to it. Not only how to stay young - but how to stay happier and healthy whatever age we are in.

Is 60 hard?? I had another friend tell me it was as smooth as 50 - that make me feel good.

I mean not only do we want to live a long time - WE WANT TO LIVE IT HEALTHY!

My first peace of advice that is not in this forward is GOD - religion - hope - faith - IS CRITICAL TO A HAPPY LIFE - in my humble opinion.

And here are some more ideas.

HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Try everything twice.
On one woman's tombstone she said she wanted this epitaph:
"Tried everything twice. Loved it both times!"

2. Keep only cheerful friends.
The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)
One of my new blog friends said yesterday was National Lemon Day for grouches - BOO!

3. Keep learning:
Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever...
Never let the brain get idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.'

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud.
Laugh until you gasp for breath.
And if you have a friend who makes you laugh,
spend lots and lots of time with HIM/HER.

6. The tears happen:
Endure, grieve, and move on.
The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves.
LIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love:
Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever..
Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health:
If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips.. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county,
to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

So to that I say, "I love you, my special friends!"

Which one is your favorite - God first - then what ??? To tell you the truth I try to practice them all - guess number 3 is the one I practice the most.

Thought for the day:
"I do not want to die...until I have faithfully made the most of my talent and cultivated the seed that was placed in me until the last small twig has grown." ~ Kathe Kollwitz

My fav is the one before number 1 ...GOD ...He has to be the center of all things in life: Family, friends, church, work, laughter, sorrow...every emotion possible HE has to be in the center to keep it all balanced that life can be what HE desires it to be...an manfiestation of HIS LOVE ALWAYS!
Thank you for the Bible Lesson of Living Life Young

I am now 60 and I can tell you, I feel better now than I have in many, many years. Probably because I am eating healthier and have cured most of my ailments.

They are all great ideas, but number 7 is best for me.

LOL on the candy corn! Not a favorite of mine, now I know why! I liked that list; definitely God #1, faith/hope is so important I think for a good life rather you live long or not! I like continual learning too; I think that stimulates our brain and doesn't make us stagnant! And a good laugh is always great, that's why we have pets I think!

have a good day!

4, 5, and 7 are all BIG for me and grow more important as each year passes. Great post with lots of good things to think about. Don't know how people face the future if they don't have God in their life. It's a must have for me!

I would have to say, that after God, number seven would be my favorite. When you are surrounded by things you love, if you are down, you can draw inspiration and happiness thinking about them. I make memory books filled with thoughts and happenings from my life. They make it so easy to relive the good times. I am a decade past 60, but I am mentally about 45, that's in my own mind, of course. I thank God for good health. So physical age is irrelevant. "For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. Eccl 3:1

Hi Sandie! This is a great post. God first then I would pick number 4. I love the Laura Ingalls Wilder quote on my sidebar that says "it is the sweet, simple things in life which are the real ones after all."
I'm older than you and I need to eat healthier and exercise more in order to stay as healthy as possible. I think the older I get the harder it is for me to have discipline in that area.
I love laughing and try to find something to laugh about everyday! Dear bloggers like you help out in that area! I'll never look at candy corn again without thinking about your cartoon. LOL! Have a wonderful day!

great great post so true!!!!You always make my day!

Sandie...you are incorrigible! First, kitty litter cake and now... where candy corns come from! I've never had candy corns and I sure intend to keep it that way now I know :)

I love these wisdoms you've shared. You'll beat me to 60 by two years, so I'll be watching you closely to see what I'll be in for when it's my turn. You'd better not let me down!

Big hug
Des xoxo

I think they're all good, but yes, number 3 and number 7. I really do love being here in our house with my family. And another thing I've learned, rather late in my life, is to keep my mouth shut and just ignore the stupid things some people say to me. I do not like the candy corn cartoon!!! I will be seeing that witch every time I eat candy corn! Thanks for the laugh Sandy!

I truly believe livin' young is in the attitude baby!!!

Surroundin' yourself with children doesn't hurt and don't forget a piece of chocolate every now and then. Heehehehe!

I'll be 60 my next birthday but I don't feel it!

God bless ya sweetie and enjoy your youthful day! :o)

Thank you for reminding us of all the things that are important. I have always been a believer in laughter. There have been times that if I hadn't laughed, I would have cried. Thanks for reminding me of all the others.

Dang....if 58 1/2 makes me look like your animated sig/tag ---I wanna go back in time. Heck, being my age [4 yrs. older than you] is no different than being 40 or 50 or 60...it's just a matter of mind over matter. And what matters is good health, good life.

I think enjoying the simple things keeps my heart happy and my spirit (at least, ha!) young.

Yesterday's cake was not a total dud. I took the photo and how-to's back to work (where they are most definitely cat lovers)after being home for lunch and at least two will be baking up a mess. One plans to make it when her daughter isn't home, then pull it out of the laundry room (you can figure out why this location) when she's back and nonchalantly offer the girl some while cutting a serving for herself. Another will be made at Christmas, when a different baker visits her daughter, with plans to gross out her son-in-law. It was a huge hit with this group!

Beth here....wow -- we really think alike! Let's see -- about 10 years ago I said the rat race is going to have to do with one less rat -- I quit my stressful job and started doing what I liked....I came to the conculsion that what was good for me was to SIMPLIFY! However, I truly do and believe in the other nine as well! I know you and I are the same age but I stopped at 28 and don't plan on getting any older! Do you think I have fooled anyone yet? My kids who are in their 30's just scratch their heads....ha ha!

Knitty said...

I don't think of age often unless something hurts. Your mindset is often what ages you since it becomes your outlook. There are people who continue to think young because they follow all of the steps above, staying curious about what is new even if they choose not to follow all the trends, for example.

There are some who claim they haven't aged since they were but that isn't anything to be pleased about if they still live as if the year was 1965.

I plan to write about this in a few days and wanted to embed the clip with Dorothy Custer but the embed option from that clip isn't working for me. Did you have trouble with it?

3, 7, 2! I still have a few people who bring me down, but I'm slowly whittling away at them! If you have your health, everything else will follow. IT's so important. I only want to live to 100 if my husband does too and we both feel good. Otherwise he's been instructed to push me off a cliff! Ann

Next to the one about God, I'd say #10. To love and be loved is a great treasure.

P.S. I love candy corn, but after seeing that cartoon...

I can't decide if it's #3 or 7 but then again I try to live by all of those.
As for the candy corn, I like it but EWWWWW ...lol

Take care and have a super day on Friday. Susan

Oh Chatty you are still a young chick, I just turned 68 almost 70..but feel much younger and I love my God, my faith and number 10.
I believe in tell those I love, that I love them every chance I get. I always have but nearly losing Keifer so young made me realize how fast they can be taken away.
We had a bad car wreck in Brookhaven over the week end. 5 teens, 2 1 boy 22 and a little girl 15 burned to death in the fire and the other 3 are in the burn center in GA in very serious condition and may not make it.The little girl that died father was anger with her and didn't tell her good bye when she left. He will live with that the rest of his life.

As far as living and aging -- just go with the flow.

I like them all. Every single one of them. Getting past grieving and moving on was the hardest thing I have ever gone through and am not through yet but I keep moving forward.
I agree. It's a great list. What a great blog to settle down to read with your morning coffee! Love it! :)

#5 ~ I LOVE to laugh...I love to be around those that make me laugh and I love to make others laugh. I laugh at myself A LOT!

YOU make me laugh!

Debbie said...

I'm so late to the party, I'm sitting in the nosebleed section! Whew.

I loved them all, and I agree GOD first.

My second favorite is keeping cheerful friends. That does make a difference. You really do mimic the folks around you.

I think I will add to that to BE a cheerful friend. I think it will draw the other smiles to you like a magnet.

Annesphamily said...

I love them all! I hate being around negative folks! I like happy people! Life is so fast to pass us by! You need to laugh more! Smile lots! Great advice! I don't blow my own horn but I have had many people tell me I am kind or I have a kind heart. It just makes me want to go out and do some small thing for someone so they will re pay the kindness too! I love the Lord first and fore most. I think I have a good marriage because He has been the center if it! It just makes everything fall into place easier. Thanks for the share. Hugs Anne
