Saturday - Some Public Service Information. . .

Christmas is coming. Think about this.

As you open your pockets for the next natural disaster, please keep these facts in mind:

· The American Red Cross President and CEO Marsha J. Evans salary for the year was $651,957 plus expenses

· The United Way President Brian Gallagher receives a $375,000 base salary along with numerous expense benefits.

· UNICEF CEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,200,000 per year (100k per month) plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE . Less than 5 cents of your donated dollar goes to the cause.

GO "GREEN" INSTEAD AND PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE IT WILL DO SOME GOOD:

· The Salvation Army's Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a small salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization. 96 percent of donated dollars go to the cause.

· The American Legion National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!

· The Veterans of Foreign Wars National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their
families and youth!

· The Disabled American Veterans National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif

· The Military Order of Purple Hearts National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!

· The Vietnam Veterans Association National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!

Thank you Linda

The cartoon is so funny!

Glad you made this post. I had learned these facts years ago and make sure my money goes where it counts and not someones salary!

Thanks for this reminder. I knew there were salaries involved with these organizations but seeing it in black and white is startling. I will certainly think twice before I donate my hard earned money.
Hugs, Sue
P.S. Love the cartoon!

That is the cutest cartoon, Sandie! LOL!

Thanks for this info. I know I try to be really careful where I send/give money to see how much of it is really going to help people and how much is used for expenses/organization, etc.

have a good weekend!

I've seen that cartoon before, but it still makes me laugh!
Good information to post. We want our money to go to people who really need it.
Have a great weekend! :)

I try to give directly to a needy family, or the Salvation army. The salary facts should be headlines in all the news. It's disgraceful the way some organizations operate.

You know, my Hubs and I were just talking about how these non profit org. have one person that is usually making a lot of money. I only give locally and never money.

Thanks so much for this Chatty. I have to admit, I even have trouble giving to the bell ringers, as I always use debit cards. I do frequent the stores, but I will give more this year.

definitely some things to think about. i do believe (sadly) that a lot of the fundraisers like races and the like end up covering administrative costs moreso than going to research, etc. too.

Excellent post and info we all need to be aware of. I am burned out on The American Red Cross and my donations go elsewhere anymore. Nice to see a list of other places that are deserving too.

Those first three salaries are beyond belief. What do they do to earn that much, I ask?

Hi Chatty. Loved the snowmen cartoon! Gosh, the rest of your post today, certainly gives us something to think about. Some of those salaries are disgraceful. Enjoy the rest of the weekend my friend.

Very cute cartoon!
This is wonderful info Sandie!
100k a month while people are homeless...sad.
As soon as my son could walk (1yr old I've taken him to Chick-fil-a every Christmas and he chooses a tag on the tree for a boy or girl to buy a gift for. As he got older he would usually choose a boy around the same age as himself. I believe this has helped him have the big heart he has. :)

I always look up the percentages going to the cause before I donate precisely because of numbers like this. Some of those salaries are absurd!

It sure gives more bang for the buck when we are careful with our choices!! Thank you for this information, Sandie. blessings ~ tanna

Thank you for the information about these charities. I'm appalled at Unicef. We give to Christian Children's Fund which gives about 85% of the money to the children, last time I checked. We give to the Red Cross also. I'm not sure why they would pay her so much! But I do want to help people in disasters so I'll keep giving to them. The military organizations are a worthy cause. It is great you put them out there.

I read some awful stuff about Good Will on a blog last year about how much their President makes. They also said that some of the stuff that we donate locally gets shipped to other countries to sell there!

I prefer to donate to my church and the missionaries we support through them.

Ann said...

I find it rather disgusting that anyone working for a "non profit" organization draws a paycheck like that.
Something is wrong with that system. And, yet, another reason to honor our military :)

Thanks Sandi for the info...Have printed it out to keep on hand.

Hi Sandy! during WWII my late FIL told us that Life magazine came to do a photo shoot and the American Red Cross handed out candy and cigarettes to the soldiers and sailors. Once Life magazine left he said they took the treats away! It was all for show! I am very careful to donate, big hospitals and churches likewise pocket lots of those funds, why goodness ,look how lavishly Jim and Tammy Faye Baker's dog lived?????? I believe if God wanted your money He personally would come ask you for it! I donate to where my dollar goes a long way! Salvation Army is first and foremost in my book! They help so many and my youngest daughter volunteered a couple years ago. It was amazing what they gave to the needy! Meanwhile Bill Gates and Oprah want to save the rest of the world! Why don't we start here and feed the hungry! Oh I better zip it up! Thanks for this great share today!

Oh, how messed up are the values in our country! Actors, athletes get exorbitant salaries. The real heroes often get ignored.

No wonder we can't recognize the treasure that was born in a manger...

Love the joke!
That is horrible that they would take such huge salaries. Thank you for that information.
