Saw an article on AOL by Dr. Oz. he said the #1 fattening food is french fries, the #2 is potato chips but not regular potatoes, and he said skim milk is more fattening than regular milk - when you take stuff out you are left with sugar - so use 2%, more calories but better for you.
Did you know that Igoogle is closing next November 2013?
Savannah Granny commented to me last week about my article on cell phones - two of her children have been in severe car wrecks - the fault of other people - and have been seriously injured. We have to get the young people to listen to us. Click here for part of her story.
Okay another issue is using other people's photos. I of course have no problem of people using mine and I wish it was okay to use others because I do. But here is a story and I truly forgot how I found it - on being sued using someone else's photos. Click here.
Now here is something good for you I found on Transitional Women's blog - it is about coconut oil. I did buy some and it is being shipped here as we speak. To check it out click here.

Interesting about the skim milk...that is contradictory to what I was told by a dietician. So, who knows? Seems that is always the case! :-)
The photography information was helpful to me...confusing, but helpful. Thanks. Oh, yes I enjoy the Unglued book. I will be teaching it at church starting in Sept.
Hello Sandie,
I sometimes do not agree with some of the things doctor Oz tells us. He his often contradictory.
thank you for the info on copyrights.. i too use images from google images.. but only if they let you use them.otherwise copyright will not let you.
happy weekend..
Grandma look real happy.

I couldn't open the site on using others' photographs (my anti-virus software wouldn't allow me to open it??).
I'm not sure where Dr. Oz is getting his information regarding increased sugars in skim milk. There are non-fat foods that are just as high in calories as their full-fat counterparts because of what's added to make up for the flavor that's missing when the fat is removed. But I don't believe that's the case with milk. When I looked at the nutritional value of each, a cup of 2% contains 5g fat, 20mg cholesterol, 100mg sodium, 12g carbohydrates (sugars), and 8g protein. A cup of skim milk contains 0g fat, 5mg cholesterol, 128mg sodium, 12mg carbohydrates (sugars), and 8g protein. So there is no difference in the amount of sugars in skim vs 2% ... the only significant difference (aside from the decreased amount of cholesterol due to the decreased amount of fat) is the sodium content, not sugars. Just some information from someone who's been watching oh so very carefully the nutritional information of her food intake for 10 years now. ;-)
You are going to love the coconut oil -- just a little added to your favorite recipes is awesome. :)
Lot's of good info this morning. Thanks for sharing.
Dr. Oz sure has a lot of good information when it comes to our health...Of course, if you watched his show everyday and did everything that he talks about, then one would soon find themselves with a health store of their own. Something new is added everyday and there is no way a family could ingest all he recommends.
Have a good sat.
Yikes...I've been systematically going through my blog deleting photos that aren't mine..even cartoon type images...fortunately I haven't used many.
Thanks for the photo info. I always wondered how okay it was to use photos on google images. I keep hearing about coconut oil too. I use it in my goat's milk soaps : )
Hi Sandie! Happy Saturday. Ohhhhh, I appreciated the copyrighted photo info. The only images I've used, other than my own, were from freefoto.com.
I'm definitely scared of copyright information. For instance, I have a book on a famous artist that I got at a used book sale. I LOVE the paintings of children this artist did. I wanted to do a blog post on my book find and show the lovely, quality photos in the book. Thought readers would enjoy them, especially if they were unfamiliar with this artist.
But I decided AGAINST it since the book was copyrighted.
Same with other books I've found that I wanted to show photos from, like a recently purchased cookbook.
We have to be careful as bloggers, that's for sure. Thanks for the reminder.
Take care. Susan
Happy Saturday, Miss Chatty, Lots of GOOD information on you post today.
I'm going to go back and check out each link! You always have such good info. I am also 'not sure' about the skim milk but it's interesting to think about! Hugs, Linda
When Oz speaks, people listen. Oprah really put him on the map. Love your service Saturday, self image check..sparkle plenty. The no phone when driving is so important.
I'm trying to notify everyone on My contact list, you might have received a weird E-mail that looked like it was from Paul and myself. It was a criminal old mean hacker. Not us!Now,off to read your post :) Denise
really like that fruit poster.
I'm on non watching terms with Dr. Oz! lol That man says one thing one day and another the next. He even said that if you have a good pap then you don't need to go to the gyno every year. Everyone hates to go to the gyno which is why I listened to the idiot and didn't go right at my year. That is why it was 16 months since my last mammogram. If it weren't for that earthquake I wouldn't have went to the doctor and I would still be walking around with cancer! Nope, I don't listen to Dr. Oz anymore. Plus, he will say this is good for you one day and then the next week he will say it's bad for you.
Dr. Oz is a wealth of good information, now if I could only make myself abide my his advice.
For sure, no one has dulled your sparkle..... you do sparkle!
Hugs,
It is kind of worrisome about the photos because I do get must of mine from google.
I remember when I was counting calories, I found out french fries at McDonald's were only 200 calories so I started eating them. I couldn't lose weight any more until I quit them. So, even if their calories aren't bad the fat sticks with you!
I almost put that turtle quote on my blog one time but didn't get around to it. You know how I like those turtles. I fed mine yesterday.
That business re. copyrighted photos is seriously scary!!!
... and while I understand the legal concept, I'm disappointed the original photographer wouldn't just accept her sincere apologies and compliance, and let it go.
WOW Sandie,
You always have such good information. I read the article about the photos being used in your blogs! Yikes!! She's so true--- I never post unless I use a photo!! And have googled "images" for some!! Need to go back and check. . . . .
Thanks,
Have a great weekend!
I never use skim milk...it taste awful anyways. Thanks for the info.
We kept gong down hill with the milk until we reached skim. Now maybe back up to 2%. I love milk. My mama called the milk with no fat, 'blue john' for some reason. sherry doesn't care for milk. I love it to drink but especially with cornbread.
Good info on the photos. I have never cared if someone used my photos. I am definitely not that good of a photographer anyway.
But I have used photos without permission, I think I will watch that a little better.
Thanks.
From New Hampshire...LOVE
Interesting about the photos. I go to the sites that have free photos on them. Almost all photos I post are my own. This is good to know though.
Interesting Saturday thoughts. Thank you.
How do we know that a turtle is comfortable in its own shell?
Sure hope your Saturday is a great one. It's a beautiful day here.
The photo info is an eye opener...I recently joined Pinterest and have felt uneasy about it. I may just delete it. As a beginning blogger I used others photo's ...There is probably a few unscrupulous people out there who will post photo's just to be able to sue someone. That may have been the case with the lady in the article.
Sandie,
You have really provided good info for us out here in blog land. I was shocked at the story about the writer who was sued for using a picture that she took down when asked. Almost all of my photos are my own, but i am going to have to go over my old blog posts and see what is there.
I just bought some coconut oil from Suvidda, an Indian Grocer in the Marshall's shopping center on Barrett Parkway.
♥charlotte
i nearly got hit by three people today while on there phones. well have a hands free law but its not being enforced. so i agree something needs to be done.
There are sites where you can get royalty free photos. As long as you're not making money from them, you can use them on your blog or website. (You can't make them into T-shirts, mugs, etc.)
I'm investing in a digital camera, so I can take many of my own photos.
I did not know that about skim milk. I guess I'll go back to 2%
That's interesting about the skim milk. Now I'm pretty concerned bc I try to watch my sugar level. ugghhh. AND the lawsuit on the photos is just too much. I don't know what to do. Your Friday post was hysterical. Love them all! Enjoy your weekend!!!
your posts are always so interesting you put so much work and thought into each one, lots of great info today, wow,
The fruit is cute! I did buy some coconut oil, I'll have to check and see if it's the good kind. Thanks for the info. I don't like skim milk, it's like dirty water. We drink 2% milk. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!
Love,
Marie
Good post, Sandie! Lots of good info and I love the posters. About the milk, we use 2%, so we're good. And the cell phones worry me so much, my children are on them constantly while driving.
Enjoy your Sunday!
Gee whiz...I never knew that about 2%...the Pres drinks 1%...:)JP
Why does google make all those images available if they are not for our use. I believe the biggest problem is using someones photos for your financial gain.
Love the last picture because my dad always called me Sparkle Plenty:)
Doesn't Google or other search engines LIFT or SNAG photos of people and places. How else do they end up there without our permission??? just curious.
A nice Sunday post, Sandie. I like your new header picture too!
The article about Roni being sued is correct. We are not supposed to use other people's photo's unless we have their permision. That goes for writings too.
On one of my blogs not listed on my profile I once in a while copy those mass e-mail letters and paste them onto the blog.
On one it was a joke (I don't remember the joke, but it turned out to be not funny). A lady left me a comment asking me to please remove the joke as it was hers, a part of a joke book she had written.
I checked it out and she did write a book like that. A problem for might have been that quite a few of the jokes were not her own original work. But that didn't matter about the one I copied. I removed it and havent heard from her again.
If she sued me her damages would be the number of lost sales of her book because of my posting. Plus her lawyer fees which would be a lot more than her lost $$$$ as my readership of that blog was almost nil.
..
That photography one was great and scary. I mostly do take my own pictures, but I need to go back and make absolutely sure that I didn't violate. I'm glad for the links shared in that too.
Love the fruit graphic. Lots of great information. Thank you. xoxo
Oh my gosh! Love the fruit sign. There's a good lesson in there for all of us. :-)
