Tuesday

Today we'll go over some interesting information . . .

This is no joke -- this is the world we live in today.

This is a little scary and it''s pretty entertaining - the end will surprise you - thank you Sharon.

I do not know if this is true - but I am all for buying AMERICAN made.   Just check out what you buy and do your best.  Thank you Sharon.

MADE IN MEXICO AND MADE IN CHINA BUT MORE EXPENSIVE THAT MADE IN USA...

Costco sells Goodyear wiper blades for almost half the price that you will pay on the outside and they are made in the U.S.A.

Unfortunately our politicians and top CEO 's have pushed for trade to china and mexico for years so

Americans are now out of work.  Did you know that there is no electric coffee maker made in the US and that the only kitchen appliances made in the US is Viking?

This information came from a report made by Diane Sawyer. Hopefully this has changed or will soon!!

I DIDN 'T KNOW HALLMARK CARDS WERE MADE IN CHINA ! That is also why I don 't buy cards at Hallmark anymore, They are made in China and are more expensive! I buy them at Dollar Tree -50 cents each and made in USA.

I have been looking at the blenders available on the Internet. Kitchen Aid is MADE IN the US.

Top of my list already ...

Yesterday I was in Wal Mart looking for a wastebasket. I found some made in China for $6.99.
I didn't want to pay that much so I asked the lady if they had any others. She took me to another department and they had some at $2.50 made in USA . They are just as good. Same as a kitchen rug I needed. I had to look, but I found some made in the USA - what a concept! - and they were $3.00 cheaper.

We are being brainwashed to believe that everything that comes from China and Mexico is cheaper.

Not so. One Light Bulb at a Time..

I was in Lowe 's the other day and just out of curiosity, I looked at the hose attachments. They were all made in China . The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA .

Start looking . . ...In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - most often, their job.

My grandson likes Hershey 's candy . I noticed, though, that it is now marked "made in Mexico ." I don 't buy it anymore.

My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico ...now I have switched to Crest.

You have to read the labels on everything.

This past weekend I was at Kroger . . . I needed 60W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets.  I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy -- was an off-brand labeled,

"Everyday Value." I picked up both types of bulbs and compared them: they were the same except for the price . . .the GE bulbs cost more than the Everyday Value brand, but the thing that surprised me the most was that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - you guessed it - the US.

So, on to the next aisle: Bounce Dryer Sheets... Yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada. The Everyday Value brand cost less, and was MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years, at almost half the price.

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbor 's

Stop buying from overseas companies - you 're sending the jobs there. (We should have awakened a decade ago). Let 's get with the program and help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the USA.  Support the products that are " Made in the USA "

And if you are from Canada but Canadian made and if you are from Australia buy from there - you know what I mean?

MORE ABOUT CORN - do you think I like corn?  lol

That video is scary and yet interesting at the same time. It is so hard to know what to do these days, you try to be conscientious about the environment and go paperless and yet you are subject to possible hacking.

I read and reread labels. They always sneak something in on me. Have a great week!!

Beth said...

I read the labels too.

Krogers here does not have a senior discount although the one my sis goes to in WV does. None of the fast food places here have senior discount except for Culvers.

Very informative post!

I have been noticing lately how many things I buy are made overseas. Very frustrating. I wanted to buy my daughter a gift from Louisiana that was actually from here and I have yet to find it.

Lisa @ Two Bears Farm said...

Well, I guess those discounts are a definite perk of getting older!

MunirGhiasuddin said...

Thank you for the list of discounts. However my husband is very shy about asking for any discounts or concessions. Similarly if he is lost he would not ask for direction. So my prayers go to the guy who invented GPS
Me on the other hand will look for sales, discounts and coupons. I guess opposites do work.

Seriously working on #4 and #5. Great post today for us...hmm...special aged folks.

I am all for buying American but with cars I have to respectfully disagree. A Toyota or a Honda will go 300,000 miles no problem whereas a Ford or Chevy will not. So when I am investing that much money I have to get my money's worth so I will buy the higher quality car. If they want us to buy American cars...I say, make them better! Just my two cents :)

Great info....love your blog

I know Diane Sawyer has done a lot with urging folks to buy American-made products. What's interesting is that you found them cheaper! I made a copy of your list of senior discount places.
Thanks!

Sandie! Thank you for your fun list of discounts. HM and I were going crazy with all of those. Yay!

ACK! I read all labels etc...try not to buy China just for politics sake as well as they dont have a great safety record. BUT THAT VIDEO! You know its possible but that really illustrates our pseudo- privacy

Sandee said...

Can you remember when all the junk was coming from Japan? Yes, I knew you could. Now it's coming from China. Where will it come from next? That's the question.

Have a terrific day honey. ☺

Ginny Hartzler said...

I love this list and I am keeping it. I think you did one like awhile ago, only much smaller. I LOVE the mind reading video!!!! I figured out ahead of time that it would be some kind of scam that would be revealed at the end, but not THIS!!!

Catherine said...

Dear Sandie, I guess it is true, there isn't any! privacy left in this world.

I loved The Lift, words to live by and all would be better. Blessings and a hug. dear Sandie. Catherine xo

This was great - especially the discount list! I had no idea. I'm going to start asking for a discount wherever we go. It's worth asking at least, huh?

Disco too pooped to chat today???

Your post makes me not feel so bad about reaching my 60th birthday this year.

Lots of good advice here today, Sandie. Thank you, several are new to me. BUT, I always (unless I forget) ask for the Senior Discount.

Kwik Kar (Oil Change) gives one but I ask instead for the 'coupon discount' and it is a flat $5.00 off. Our McDonald's also has 'senior' soft drink with unlimited refills for 50 cents. Of course when I became a senior it was only a quarter.

Lots more stories but just this last one.

We do the family plan on my son's AT&T cell phone. Mrs. Jim and I pay our share of $55.00. That includes unlimited texting, all the minutes we ever need, and Internet for Mrs. Jim (300GB).

Read here (Snopes) about Hershey:
http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/h/hershey.htm
SOME operations did go to Mexico; example, in 2007 they closed a plant in California to open in Monterey, Mexico.

Jim said...

Krogers here only gives the 10% senior discount on Kroger brand items.

Our Krogers cut seniors out of the 50 point flat rate for prescriptions saying that "the government" wouldn't let them do it to folks with "Government" insurance or payment plans. I don't know if this affects civil servants or not. I'll ask my nephew. It just happened in January here.
..
A good Louisiana gift would be a small stuffed alligator. Look at the labels, they might be made in China?

If we all bought American and not the other, I think companies would soon give the work back to the United States. When I think that Hersheys are being made outside the country, it astounds me. Hershey's has their headquarters in PA. Lots to think about for sure!

mail4rosey said...

How old do you have to be to get the Senior Citizen Discount? We're almost there I think... should I cheer or not so fast? :)

Pat MacKenzie said...

A good post Cathy. The 'mind reading' was scary. It's amazing how much of our lives is on the internet.

I read lables too and when I can't buy Canadian I try to buy US. We're too mutually intertwined to not be supportive.

I love the seniors discounts. DH used to be insulted when they were offered to him before he turned 60, but now we look for them. Its nice to know that age has some perks.

I like to buy USA made products, but it isn't always easy! I remember when Wal-Mart only carried merchandise made in the USA. That changed when the Mr. died. I went on line to find the Golden Apple Card from Applebee's and learned that they don't do it anymore. Bummer.

Ann said...

That video is exactly why I don't like facebook.
I have been trying to be more careful about checking to see where things are made. When I was buying a new coffee maker I could not find any that were made in the US

Jo-Anne's Ramblings said...

As you know I am Australian and I do try to buy Aussie made and owned stuff not always easy when so much shit comes from China....

The video was scary it is frighting how much of our lives are online for all to see and access........but will it keep me off line no bloody way hell I am here.......

Loved the last 21 list I do try and do those things and I did marry the right guy.

Merlesworld said...

I always try and buy Aussie stuff but we don't do a lot of manufacturing but food I like it to be local so I shop less and less at supermarkets and more at local butchers and fruit shops.
I always use cash now no credit cards.
Credit cards were always marketed as safer than cash but I no longer think that is the case
Merle........

Lots of good stuff today. I am tryig to switch when possible to Made in the USA, But honestly it is printed too small. I would think anyone wanting to sell to Americans would have it prominent on the label.

Oh well. Hope your evening is good.
((HUGS)) from here...

What???? Hersheys are made in Mexico? I just can't wrap my brain around that one.

I am going to start being much more vigilant. I used to be better about it and admit that lately I've just gotten lax.

And I love that last list about success. Excellent.
