Wednesday's Hodgepodge

Come on over to Joyce's Hodgepodge - click here.  Get the questions.  Answer them and them come back and leave you blog for others to read!

1. What's your worst food memory?  How about one of your best?

My least favorite food ever was when I was in Greece - I was about 16 and we were served what looked like pink mashed potatoes.  It tasted pretty fishy and I found out it was octopus!  I got sick!
My favorite was years ago at my MIL - she was Polish and had the best food ever!  She had all the family there.  And my mom who was divorced was invited and they loved each other.  That way we never had to split a holiday.  Awesome times.

2. Do you appreciate people telling it like it is, or would you rather a speaker temper his/her words and maybe beat around the bush a little?  How about when you're the one communicating...which type are you?

I love to have people tell me like it is - but I admit gently.  I hate playing games.  And I like to be open and honest nicely - and I do try to do that for the most part.

3. What's your favorite place to hang out?

My home.  I really do love my home.

4. When do you most feel like you're a slave to time?

At three o'clock in the afternoon when I get the grandson and right before bedtime when we are going to bed - lol.

5. What was the last concert you attended?  Who'd you go with? Was it any good?

I went to see Jon Bon Jovi on my last birthday 2-27-13.  My daughter and her friend bought me a ticket - took me to the Melting Pot and then to see Jon who has been singing some 25 to 30 years now.  And did I have a good time?  You do know who Jon and Richie are?

6. Reality TV...harmful or harmless?  What's your guilty pleasure when it comes to reality TV?

Well I think depending on what you watch.  Dancing With the Stars is a great one with great values.Something like Big Brother bad values.  Unfortunately I do watch that once in awhile.

7. What's something you think is overrated?

The news media.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Speaking of telling things like it is - I wish my DIL would like me like I liked my MIL.
I can just sense while she tries to be nice - and doesn't always succeed, she just doesn't like me or the rest of us all much.  I don't know if we have done something or what.
I wish she'd just spit it out.   It makes for a very hard situation.
PS It was my son's 38th birthday yesterday.  Happy Birthday son!

  1. Sorry things are hard with your dil. I think we dil's control much of the tone within an extended family.

I had octopus in Greece too, it's popular there. I enjoyed it : ) Happy Birthday to your son!

  2. I wish you luck with your DIL.

  3. Does your DIL read your blog? You are a little pistol. Wish I had an MIL like you... we could get in lots of trouble together!

  4. My worst food bananas. Oh how I dislike the smell and feel of bananas. Of course my grand babies love bananas and grandma has to peel and mash fresh bananas for their baby food. What we won't do for those we love.
This world sure is small. Your MIL is Polish and my SIL is Polish! I wish he could cook though his mother did not teach him and I don't think she wants to teach my daughter how to cook Polish food. Too bad because I would bet the whole family would like it.

  5. I pray you and your DIL can develop a warm and loving relationship. Miracles are possible!
    I love my home too.
    Really enjoyed your answers.

  6. I giggled at your Bon Jovi answer, and your comment about your DIL made me sad. I hope my SILs love me! (Who am I kidding? Right now, I'm just stopping at the words "hope" and "SIL". That will do for now.

    I like Hodgepodge Wednesday.

  7. I think the last concert we went to was either Springsteen, or Stevie Nicks and Peter Frampton, that was many years ago. About besting around the bush, I think it depends greatly on what you are talking about. We hate the reality shows that demean people, like there is that new one coming about surviving naked. Our first and favorite is Project runway. Then Top Chef and Design Star.

  8. Octopus---yuck!

Hope things will get better with DIL.

  9. Ewww, octopus?

I like to be told exactly how it is, but admit, at times I sugar coat things. I hate hurting peoples feelings!

  10. Hi There,

My worst food memory is when I was a little gal about age 10-12, I visited a friend and had dinner with them. The Mama fixed slimy okra --which I had never had... I can still to this day see that slimy stuff--which looked like something that comes out of your nose when you have a cold... YUK.... I will eat fried okra --but never ever eat boiled okra... Yow!!!!!

Since I am one who has to eat my words at time --and who is quite opinionated, I will say that, most of the time, we need to be careful what we say...

I love my home also--but my alltime favorite place to hang-out is our little cabin at Mt. Nebo in Arkansas... It's like heaven on earth.

I never watch reality TV... We do watch alot of dramas on TV --which we enjoy. BUT--no reality stuff...

Our Government is overrated (every single part of it).... They (Congress and Administration) say they have our best interests in mind ---yet all they really care about is their own life/job/benefits/lifestyle, etc...... We send these idiots back to Washington over and over and over---thinking they will take good care of our country's needs and follow our Constitution...HA HA HA...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  11. Liked your post, Sandie. The questions are great and your answers very revealing. Does your MIL read your blog?

I like octupus when it is cooked right to make it tender. I had some a couple of weeks ago that had a big stringy part. That part went down my throat and I was choking and coughing trying to bring it up. Of course I had a big mouth full so I grabbed all of the food so I could cough better.

The string pulled up with all of the food and I was just fine after that. We had a delicious Greek meal in Greece last Sunday. I don't have food pictures for it. THAT IS STRANGE FOR ME.
    ..
I am still on August Break a bit but did post Tuesday as we were back in London since then.

  23. I laughed so hard at the cartoon, but I'm laughing all the time now that I follow you on FB. I am Polish and my mom was the best cook in the world and she loved everybody too! Rich food, now we all have to watch our cholesterol in our later years.

  32. Dear Sandie, I can't think of my worst food memory. One of my best is my mom's Christmas cake. I don't have the recipe though.
    2) I do, though I think people should be charitable and know when and where things should be said, otherwise it is rude. I tend to keep things inside.
    3)I like to be home.
    4) In the evening.
    5)Many, many years ago.
    6) Shows such as DWStars and such are good, however, many of the others are not at all. They teach bad behavior.
    7)Starbucks...sooo expensive!
    8)live, love and laugh
    Blessings dearest. Catherine xo

  33. Hi-ya. I just saw your comment on another blog about how much rain we've had in GA, and figured I'd pop on over to say howdy.

    So, um... howdy!

Yeah, we're in soggy GA, too. (Not complaining... it's a lot better than the drought of the past few years.) We're over in Gwinnett county, so we're not all that far apart. Cool.

Count me in as your newest groupie. Nice to meet ya! As Arnie Schwartzeneggar said, "I'll be bach!"
