Wednesday Hodgepodge

Come and join us at From This Side of the Pond   Go to her site and join along.  She always has some great questions.http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/

1. What's one thing you learned in September?

I learned the 7 parts of speech.  Boy there seems like there is a lot more than 7.  That is because each one part has parts under them.  I know I talk a lot about this - I have to admit I am feeling much  smarter now.  I used to know them - but it was decades ago since I used them.  I think they added some more in or I didn't go that far.  It feels good to me though - satisfying.   I think the grandson is feeling a bit that way too.  More self confident.

2. Acorn squash, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, yellow squash, zucchini squash, or blech! hold the squash... what's your favorite squash? What's your favorite way to prepare your favorite squash?

The only one I will eat is zucchini.  Sliced and fried in butter.  Or zucchini boats where you take out the insides and fry them up with sausage - put the mixture back in.  Bake and sprinkle with cheese at the end.  None which is too good  for you.   I have a recipe for chocolate zucchini cake that's good too.

3. The older I get the_______________________________.

The more I realize time is precious.  I have learned not sweat the small stuff and that everything is small.  There is nothing more important then God and family.  I am not in a hurry as much as I used to be. I walk slow and take the time to look at things.

4. What's your favorite television theme song ever?

The Flintstones.

5. What do you wish you'd spent more time doing five years ago?

I wish I was a better steward with our money!  Wish I had taken our money out before the stock market crashed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  lol

6. What item do you most need (or want) to add to your wardrobe this fall?

I would like to add a couple of dressed - and that is what I need most.  I usually wear jeans and a T-shirt or pants and a dressier shirt.

7. On October 2, 1950 the Peanuts cartoon was introduced to the world. What was your favorite cartoon when you were a kid?

I was born in 1953.  I liked Peanuts, but to be honest they were a little boring.  My favorite were The Flintstones.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I really have some very wonderful friends that I met from blogging and I love you guys.

THE LIFT:

SOMETHING INTERESTING-

What a museum did to attract people-The Rijksmuseum Holland had an idea: Let's bring the art to the  people and then, hopefully, they will come to see more - at the museum.  They took one Rembrandt painting from 1642 , Guards of the Night,  brought to life the characters in it, placed them in a busy mall - and the  rest you can see for yourself!

  2. really cool video and I would love to see something like that. I learned how to use brushes in photoshop in Sept because it rained for 4 days.

i can't think of anything i would do different from 5 years ago, but if i could go back 10 years to 1993 I would have joined a gym then instead of in 2006 and kept from gaining weight sitting for 13 years in front of the computer.

  9. Hi Sandie,
I am glad you have learned the 7 parts of speech, plus the sub-parts as well.
With the English Language, we all have to learn many things every single day. There are lots of new things that appear in daily basis, perhaps, things that common folks introduce in the language, plus the fancy ones Linguists introduce in the English Dictionary. Sandie, you may go to a Public Library and Bookstores to find new books on English Grammar and Language in general. Thanks for visiting my pages, sweetheart!
Tomorrow is Paul's birthday. He was born in 1940, so he is a war baby. I am a baby boomer, because I was born in 1953. Paul will very soon RETIRE from his medical practice of a lifetime. Then, he'll spend time at home a lot more, demand my personal attention, and perhaps, we'll begin to travel more as we please. Let's see what happens in the near future, Sandie? I know our lives will definetely change.
Yes! I loved The Flinstones Cartoon. I used to watch on TV when I was a child.
My thought for today could be THE POWER TO CHANGE IN LIFE.
Have a blessed week, Sandie, family and friends!
I have been unwell, ill lately.
    God bless.
    Starry Dawn.

  11. I liked the Flintstones too. Cartoons back then were so much better. At least they were funny. The ones kids watch today are plain stupid.

  15. Hi There, I always love answering the questions...

    My thoughts to your questions:
    1. I learned/know that September is the BEST month to travel. Weather was perfect and there weren't so many people around!!!!
    2. I like most all kinds of squash --but the yellow squash is probably my fav. I enjoy it cooked with onions... YUM.
    3. The older I get, the happier I am!
    4. Gosh--there are so many!!! The first one that comes to mind for some strange reason is "Green Acres is the Place for Me"..... GADS--why did I think of that one?
    5. Wish I had worked as hard on keeping my weight under control in past years --as I have the past two!!!!
    6. A new sweat suit that FITS; After losing weight, my clothes are HUGE on me. (Nice problem to have.)
    7. Roadrunner and/or Bugs Bunny

Hope you have had a great couple of weeks.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  17. Here we go:

    1. I learned that I am not as young as I used to be - and I'm feeling it!
    2. Love zucchini - I like the way my husband grills them on the barbecue, and then just slather them in margarine. They're good cold, too.
    3. The older I get the more I appreciate my husband and my sons.
    4. Wow, that's a tough one. Maybe the theme song from Perry Mason.
    5. Exercising.
    6. Some more warm things to wear to church.
    7. I liked the Peanuts because I loved Snoopy - still do. And I'm rather fond of his real-life counterpart, a certain beagle named Marty.
    8. Love you too.

Love the Flintstones and even had the toy village. Yes I wish I had saved the money I wasted on silly things I just had to have! Debby

  25. The older I get the more I realize what's important in life. What to worry about and what to TRY and let go. That my children aren't going to live with me forever, so time with them is more important then spick and span clean floors.

I love all kinds of squash and zucchini.

  26. I enjoyed the questions and your answers, I agree I loved the Flinstones!

  35. I always thought Peanuts was boring, but sweet. And the non popular kids could relate. "The older I get"...totally agree!!!!! Got my blood test results back this morning, they are fine and I qm fine, so I just have the old people's pupura!! Who knew that being old involved blood leaking out of your veins, and THAT'S what I learned in Septmeber, har har har!!!

  41. Chatty's is the place to come for a lift. I like the Flintstones music, but this week it has been 'Petticoat Junction'. That is funny because they rated about 70 out of a 100 to me. But the tune is catchy.

The move on art was good.

    Love from here.
    PS: Right about the puppy!!!

  42. Oh, sadly I do not remember the seven parts of speech! Perhaps I will re learn that one day....or not! 😳

    My favorite cartoon.....Nancy and Sluggo!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I liked the picture of the two fishing with the parted river, LOL :)

I do agree, Sandie, the older we get the more precious life is and we do learn to stop sweating the small stuff and take time to smell the roses.

I learned that, when I have to, I can be patient and busy at the same time.
    lol
I love Buttercup Squash baked in the oven with real butter and brown sugar or real maple syrup in the cavity where the seeds once were. Oh, bake the seeds too with seasoned salt. Yum all around.
I still love any of the Loony Tunes characters and Road Runner, beep-beep. Just sayin! so glad to be back on line again...it's been real
    Life is good

  46. Good Wednesday post again. I liked the mall performance the best. Wouldn't you just love to have that happen when you were there. At first I thought it was in Atlanta. Silly me.

Your answers were neat. We didn' have TV when I was home, so no favorites for me there. I named the parts of speech just fine. Can you still diagram a sentence?

Next best was the "Boo"! pumpkins.
    ..

  47. I wish I could remember just a portion of the things I "learned" in my younger years. However, if they had been things that I actually applied to my real life, I might not have forgotten them in the first place.

    The Lift... how true!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh I LOVE the flintstones too. Not like the cartoons of today. Seems like ours were so much better ya know??

  49. I was a big Flintstones girl too. I admit that if I've cruising through channels and find it, I will watch a little to this day. Unfortunately, you don't find it that often.

I also loved Underdog. Yes, odd. I don't know why I loved it, but I did. I was delighted to find out that it was one of my husband's favorites growing up too. I guess we should have known then that we were going to be a family of underdogs.

Favorite TV theme of all time to me is the one from Cheers.

Wait. How did I make this all about me? Ooops.

  50. I have two ladies I've 'met' thru blogging coming to spend the weekend with me next week. I'm really excited about it. I've met a couple of blog friends irl, which has been a lot of fun.

  51. Cool posts. Now you can all feel good about your age. I was born in 1929. I liked the theme from Green Acres. Sandie, now I know why you didn't understand the do-nut hole. You are just a kid. Be happy you had a 401K and have a little left. I only like Zucchini when my daughter in law bakes us a cake and brings it up. to us. Squash, acorn once in a great while.

  52. That mall thing is kind of neat, but I think I would have been a little alarmed had I been there during the first part. :)

  54. I suppose I learned many things in September, but September flew by so quickly I can't remember a single thing I learned!

Oh! Yes! I did learn that I should never involve one certain person in helping me do anything...ever! The reason being he always turns everything into a Cecil B. DeMille three-reel, cinemascope, technicolour blockbuster - but I knew that already...I just forgot for a moment! I won't do that again! ;)
