women photo image009.gif

Oh my oh my - who are the winners of the snowmen contest?

Now you can't be mad at me - because I didn't pick them.  Get mad at the grandson if you must.

CHATTY'S SNOW PICTURES

STORM LEON 2014

Looking our my driveway - a hill.

 My front yard.

Driveway day 2.  We have missed 3 days of school this week.  We do not own a shovel.

 My house.
In GA I have no heavy winter coat - no snow boots - no hat.  I do have a pair of gloves.

This is called the Big Dipper - high going up and fast going down.  This is the biggest problem in our neighborhood.

 See the ice?

People could not get up or down so they abandoned their cars and walked.

Our problem here is that there are very few plows and salt. Everyone was let out at now.  The temperature was very cold and no sun.  The cars packed the snow and made it ice.  And no one including me knows  how to drive on two inches of black ice - on hills and curves.

But we made it!

I loved all the snowmen, thanks for sharing them. And the windows joke made me giggle, not good with my rib injury, but still, it was funny.

Not so funny what you guys have been through in GA. I am so sorry you had to suffer with all this snow, ice, and cold. I'm glad you are doing OK and hope you stayed at home as much as possible. Take care.

I'm so lucky to have gotten home that day in must an hour and 15 minutes. Horror stories abound!

Love all the snowmen!

As far as the snow and ice -- I would say "welcome to my world..." but we haven't had much this year.

As always enjoyed my visit to your house, Even if I had to walk up that big Dipper! LOL

DON'T OWN A SHOVEL? Imma gonna report you, that must be an offense!

Loved the pictures of your area. Thanks. and I hope it is on the way up in temps today! We set at 55* now.

Congrats to all the winners! If it were a judged contest and I were voting, I'd choose the snowman hitchhiking.

Lots of chuckles here...Valentines, eh? I'll have to see about that.

Your neighborhood would be a tricky one in winter weather...yikes! No wonder the vehicles were abandoned. Too bad, everyone didn't just stay home!

Congrats to the winners! I love your idea of a Valentine contest; got to get thinking of something! Thanks for featuring all the snowmen too, Sandie, I know that was a lot of work!

Wow with the storm. I saw pictures of it, of course, on the TV, but to see it through your eyes, someone I know, makes it more "alive" if that makes sense.

You are right, if you aren't prepared for it, it is a struggle to deal with it, but glad you guys got through it safe and sound.

I hope the sun comes up really bright to melt and dry the ice!

Love all the snowmen, I use to collect them, but now I have so many that I have to think twice when I see one whether I want to buy it or not. Love the laugh...yes, what were we thinking. LOL

The snowmen are all adorable. Congratulations to the winners.

Love all the signs. A. Lot.

Need chains for the hill. Okay you just need snow chains for all of it.

Have a fabulous day honey. Big hugs to you and scritches to Disco. ♥♥♥

What a nightmare! The only fun thing about snow in your post was the cute snowpeople! Clever folks you have reading your blog. (Well, maybe not me...)

I have had to abandon my car twice on the switchback road up to our house. Even with chains, I just can't negotiate the icy patches. Scary, and dangerous.

Just like me! LOL!

I can't imagine going through what Atlanta folks had to deal with... and I hope I never have to find out!

The Quintessential Magpie said...

Sandie, be very careful! There is nothing worse than Southerners trying to drive on ice. My sister and I had to slip and slide to see my mother in the hospital once upon a time, and we all freaked out. I can remember seeing cars all over the interstate medians and shoulders because they slid off the road. It is a scary thing because it is such a rare occurrence as you said. But on the flip side, I have seen snowbirds flipping out trying to drive in an afternoon thunder shower, completely clueless and scared. i try to remember to be patient. It is just what you are used to, and I hate ice and snow!

On a different note... Yea! I am excited. I feel like I won the lottery! Congrats to all the snowmen because they are all cute as can be! Loved seeing the pictures.

I don't know where I found that cookie, but isn't he cute? . I was googling for snowmen cookies, and there it was! Or they were!

The table mat isn't mine as It is Better Homes and Gardens which was my tablescape inspiration.

The other guy is mine! :-)

You said we could steal, so I did, but if that's not fair, then I will forfeit my tiara! LOL

THANKS TO YOU AND THE GRANDLITTLE!

xoxox

Sheila

P.S. I love the snowman hitching to Florida, but we have been in the deep freeze, too. Nothing like Atlanta, but cold all the same And my poor BIL said it was five degrees where he lives in Alabama. This has been some winter. I had to turn my AC off and my heat on! ;-). Also had to wear... Wait for it... Socks! I wore some of the ones left over from the Christmas garland. LOL. Thank goodness I bought extra. I am so glad I checked in as I haven't been up to snuff and haven't been blogging as a consequence. But I will try and start back on Monday. Tanks again! xoxoxoxox

The Quintessential Magpie said...

Make that... THANKS again! Tanks again would refer to all the motorists who got gas after they ran out of gas on the interstate in Atlanta which is not funny.. But me vs. the IPAd Is! ;-). It called someone a naughty word the other day, but thank goodness I caught it! Makes you think some evil genius was sitting back and designed this to bamboozle little old ladies who wear glasses! ;-). Just wait! He will be an old geezer some day, too! Payback is h€##.

Congrats to your grandson for a job well done. The snowmen were all so cute. We've been seeing a lot of news on tv about your part of the world. I'm glad you were able to just stay in. Hope it warms up soon and melts it all away!

All cute snowmen! I'm glad you all made it through the snow and ice ok! It can be challenging, that's for sure:@)

That had to be a difficult job for your grandson to pick the winners but he made some excellent choices among so many wonderful submissions and he is to applauded.

Hi Sandie....Congrats to all the snowman contest winners!

OHHHHH, black ice would wig me out, too. No kidding. That must have been scary for all of you.

Hope things are MUCH better now.

Well, even us up here in good old New York State are not very good with black ice. I am so sorry you all had to go through that. It is very strange when you are not used to it! And scary!!!!!! Really glad your hubby was okay and finally got home.

I love today's post, again. There was one that cracked me right up...???...??? Now I can not remember which one. SSHHH! Don't tell any one!

so many great snowmen, that had to have been a tough choice.
Driving on snow is one thing but the ice is a whole other ball game. That can be scary

It looks like you got some winter. Pretty mild by Canadian standards, but winter nonetheless.

And the snowmen were fun.

I'm sure glad you and your family are safe and sound! The weather is crazy in so many parts of the country and the world right now.

Have a nice weekend and I hope all that ice melts there! We're getting a little freezing crud and later snow, the weatherman sez. Hurry spring!

Hi Sandie, the snowmen are adorable. We made a big one too and If I would have know this would be your post then I should have send you the picture. We didn't mind the snow, we love it. It is not all the time so it is doable for us. we got about 2.5 feet of snow and we still have few more left in our yard.

The snowmen were all wonderful, my favorite being the snowman on the park bench. I would have taken a picture, but it was too cold here and your hand could stick to the door handle just trying to go outside.

What a horrible surprise that was for you folks in Georgia. Mother Nature must have gotten her Georgia's mixed up.

Sheila Y said...

I am quite fond of snowmen myself, I have many. Loved seeing all the entries and congrats to the winners! Thanks for sharing your winter storm pics. My brother and his family live near and work in Atlanta. Thankfully, their daughter was out of school, her Mom was off because she worked on the weekend and her Dad was home sick, so they didn't get caught out in the stuff. Have a great weekend, Sheila

The snowmen are fun. I have none to send you...I could send you a sandman, but that might send everyone to sleep!

Theresa Mahoney said...

What a great snowman contest turnout you had! I am lol at your snow pics. I only wish we had such small amounts fall here. The huge snow plow truck got stuck in our circle 2 days in a row. You know it's bad when even those monsters can't make it through!

Nancy's Notes said...

Snowmen are adorable! I'm still laughing at that cute joke! I'm off to tell it to anyone, it's short enough that I can remember! Thanks for the great post, as always!

Sandy said...

Love all the snowmen! Cute contest! Also love the joke about the computer and the water. Too funny! As for snow, yes, very weird for Georgia. My brother lives there and they do not have a clue what to do with the white stuff either. We had nearly three inches here but we do know what to do!

Catherine said...

Dear Sandie, I am glad that you and your family are safe and sound. The best thing is to stay in and be safe. It has been icy here too. The rivers and canals are all frozen over. The first time in a while to stay frozen like this.
Well, I guess winter is making herself known this year!
You are always delightful and cheerful to visit.
Congrats to the snowman winners.
Tammy will be entering the Valentine contest for sure.
Blessings dear friend. Be warm and cozy. Catherine xoxo

I like the snowmen, and the little knit one I want in my house. :)

I spun out on black ice coming back from a school run Friday...right across the busy highway (a miracle for sure that no cars/semis were coming the second I went across), and I ended up in a ditch to be towed out. And I've been driving on this stuff for 7 years!! There's really not a lot you can do when you don't know it's coming. :(

LOL at the Jedi photo!!! Not a funny scene though, I'm sure of it. Ice is no joke, & it's awful to drive on. Stay warm.

Who wants to teach the Southerns how to deal with snow/ice?

Susan J. Reinhardt said...

Congrats to the winners!

Oh Chatty, I can imagine how difficult this storm was for you and your neighbors. It's tough enough when you have the coats, boots, plows, and salt.

Praying the weather will warm up and melt all the white stuff.

Your pictures are amazing Sandie!
Bet you never really noticed the hills in your neighborhood until the winter Storm and they were solid ICE!! Or if you ride a bike!!
That's why no one went to school on Friday. the neighborhood roads were still freezing over at night and busses couldn't make it in to pick up elementary kids at 7:00 in the morning!! Were those geese in your front yard?? Poor dears, I always feel so sorry for ducks and geese in ice cold water. this weekend was lovely :-}} Hope you got out and enjoyed it!!

Debbie said...

I totally loved the winner one that he originally picked. It was my favorite too, I think. I actually loved so many of them. That tree hugger one cracked me up.

YES. Do it again in February. I don't know if I have a valentine, but I will keep my eyes out for a good one.

As for the snow conditions, I am so glad things are thawing.

I am glad this ice storm is over, they are wicked in the South. We just don't have the equipment or resources available to deal with it all.
Glad you are well and warm, my friend!

Warm hugs always,
