GOOD MORNING!
(In honor of my new great grandbaby in September.)
Have you ever given something away you wish you had kept?
CHATTY CATHYI gave this to my niece, and I know she does not have it anymore.
Gosh we had a ton of these. My dear MIL stood in line at Walmart one Christmas to get one of the first ones for both kids - at 4am she got in line. She was such a sweet MIL. I was blessed with her for sure.
My parents spoiled me to death - I admit it - my mom anyway. I had Barbie everything! I know exactly what I did with them - I gave them to a girl I babysat for.
Strawberry Shortcake - my daughter loved her - not sure what happened to her - we had games too. And once she came out to a birthday party for my daughter and I made a strawberry shortcake cake.
Oh my gosh - Legos are sooooooooooooooo expensive. My grandson had a ton of them - and again - what did we do? We passed them on to a friend.
Okay these records - and I had EVERY Beatle album, Monkees, Beach Boys, Hermit and the Hermits, and many more - I gave them to my son with a beautiful record player - I have no idea if he has them or not - I haven't seen them when we visit - and if he put them in the attic - I bet they are warped.
They were probably worth a good bit of money.
The Veggie Tales
We had all the Veggie Tale's DVD's - the Larry Boy Car - and all the toys.
Once again, we must have given them all away.
I LOVED the Veggie Tales and their cute little songs.
BASEBALL CARDS
Makes me sad and a little sick at all the money we spent and gave away. BUT - on the brighter side the kids had great childhoods, we made a lot of memories and had a lot of family fun.

What have you saved from the past?
I still have my Posie doll - or at least my daughter has her.
Below is what mine looked like. Anyone remember Posie?
She literally grew up with me.
My mom was a good seamstress, and she would make matching clothes for Posie and me.
We had a lot of care bear CD's and I still have a couple I saved for my grandson to remember his past.
Oh, my grandson LOVED Ben Ten - saved all those for him too.
Another thing we saved all of was Star Wars. We have all the figures. The planes, the Land rover, everything.
What did you save - what do you remember - what do you still have?

I know all of these except Ben Ten. We had most of them too, and now they are gone, except the Lego's. We have a huge tote of them and our grandkids love playing with them.
How similar - You had Posie and I had Chatty Cathy...I still have her sitting on my mantle - Kelsey got a hold of her and pulled her head off...so have to keep her in a corner to keep her head on (oh dear it is not what I have given away but what my pooches have found for their chew toys...furniture, rugs, shoes, my glasses and the list goes on ). My nephew had tons of legos and even as an adult has a huge collection in his basement on shelves. He and his wife make lovely decorations for their home (you know adults like them too)...guess each generation has their own treasures. Hugs!
I eventually got rid of just about everything from my childhood. I kept a few items and I’m okay with it. Things my boys had were mostly sports equipment- long gone by now or they have them. Having a daycare in my home for years, I accumulated a lot of toys, children’s books, building blocks and Lego’s and art supplies. I still have a few keeper books I’ve saved.
Oh goodness...this post takes me way back and I remember many of these that we purchased for the girls. We still have the Cabbage patch dolls and lots of barbies. There are so many things that I sure wish we had kept, but at the time you think of it as junk. We do still have "Pete the Horsey" which we have had for 30 years. Every one of our grandkids has ridden Pete and now our greats are enjoying him. He is not as brightly colored as he once was, but the kids still love it. thank you for so many sweet memories here today...
I love all the memories here. I love to clean and organize and this involves purging items I no longer need or use. So I have never had any regrets in relation to items I have parted with.
Sorry, I keep loosing my comment. Mark put out the kids wooden rocking horse on the curb last week, it was gone in 15 minutes. We had no need for it and James didn't care for it but it was so pretty. James loves Legos and so did Adam. Mark also got rid of a bunch of albums. I don't think I've ever seen a Posie doll. I still have music CD's and DVD's in storage containers that hold them without the case. Cases are gone. Interesting post.
I have kept all my children ‘s toys but I have few of mine. All the basket ball cards from my children a care bear soft toy, strawberry shortcake is ( Charlotte aux fraises) here, the second soft pink doll ( poupée chou) and many Star Wars toys. When my son came last summer I had to get all the boxes and he played with his son with all his vintage toys he was so happy to find them again! I have a lot of boxes!!!
Since I didn't play with dolls as a little girl, I don't have any of those. However, I do have a collection of small Steiff animals with which my brother and I played together for hours. We made up adventures for them and each one had a distinct personality. They are actually on display here at the house after spending decades in a protective tin in my parents attic. I do wish I still had my vinyl record collection though. I had the Monkees, Herman's Hermits and Paul Revere and the Raiders. Blessings, Sandie!
Much to my mother's dismay, I was never especially fond of dolls-- but really wanted a Cabbage Patch kid when they first came out. (Don't ask me why!) Thankfully, due to limited space -- and changing tastes -- I've never regretted giving away or donating 'things.'
I am the oldest of four kids. My two little sisters got all of my toys. I don't have any toys from my childhood. I wasn't "into" dolls so much. I had the original Barbie, and later had one with bendable legs. I was more into climbing trees, hiking in the woods, and playing outside. I loved reading and had 52 Nancy Drew books that also got handed down. Long gone... and that's okay. I think it is fine that you shared your kids' things by giving them to others. Blessings shared are the best kind!! xo
Never heard of Posie. Wow, a lot of these things would be worth a lot, especially Chatty and Cabbage Patch. Too bad we don't know how much something will be worth in the future. Yes, I sold all my old original Beatles albums for just a few dollars!! OY!
My daughter had it all I still have her barbie things but my grand had no interest in them so I will pass them on I think there is no great value there.

I moved from our old house of 30 years to our current house 9 years ago. We had moved so many times of the years and gotten rid of so many things I regret. Even 9 years ago, you'd think I would give that some thought. I was depressed at the time. That really distorted my thinking.
We live in an apartment so don't save things. I give things l no longer use to freecycle and don't worry about what they cost.
I remember many of these ... cabbage patch dolls, Lego bricks (an instrument of torture if you step on them barefeet), Beatles, Monkees and so many other records. I still have some old vinyl albums, and also the same in CD format.
God bless always, Sandie.
I also gave everything away that my kids had. As a kid myself my paternal grandmother made a playhouse for us grandkids out of an old chicken coop she no longer used. She would go to yard sales and pick up things that a house would have and put it in there for us. We loved it! It had no heat or electricity, but we spent most of our days in there playing. Janice
I remember a lot of those toys. I didn't save anything from my childhood and there are so many times when I wish I would have.
I too had to downsize when moving and gave away many things. I don't regret it but do hate it now when I have to buy something new that I gave away! Sounds like you have a nice assortment of what you did save. At least my kids took what was theirs. The have what they wanted.
I didn't save anything from childhood, but your post had me reminiscing. I didn't have Barbie, but I had a doll who was one of Barbie's friends- a brunette, probably because I am brunette and we couldn't have the blondes getting all the attention!
I sold my kids' lego stash for cheap to a very appreciative family. My son told me I could've gotten a lot more money, but once I told him to sort them, he wasn't interested!
I had every Monkee's album since their beginning but chose to sell them to a record shop back in the 1980's. Also, got rid of my first street legal motorbike: a 1978 Kawasaki KZ650 all set up for touring (Bates Box, Vetter Fairing, King & Queen Seat, etc.). I really miss that bike. It had a lot of torque and handled so well. 😎
Reading this felt like flipping through a family photo album—so many sweet memories tucked into each paragraph. It's easy to feel the ache of what's gone, but even more so, the joy of all that was shared. You gave your love with open hands, and that’s what lasts.

Have I ever given something away I wish I had kept?.
The answer to this question yes obviously. Sometimes we have to give something to make people happy even with something that we are supposed to have kept for ourselves

Great post down memory lane! I love that you loved these things and passed them on for others to enjoy. My sister and I had a Tiny Tears doll, do you remember that one? Oh and the Beatles dolls with their bobbing heads. My Mom left them when we moved. She said we were too old for dolls. Never will get over that, LOL
