M is into Miss Rachel
How do kids know the shows are for them?
Now I have to learn the new shows - they are all new since her daddy was a little boy.
We were into Ben Ten (grandson), Sesame Street (son), and Strawberry Shortcake (daughter). Does anyone remember those shows? We actually had Strawberry Shortcake at my daughter's birthday. I made a Strawberry Shortcake cake.
Miss Rachel uses sign languages to go with the words. I love that. I think it is a great show with some good learning going on.
Kelly and I had the wonderful opportunity to babysit M. We played with her on the floor with all her toys. Then we watched one show of Miss Rachel. Every heard of her - she a little like the old Sesame Street - with teaching, learning, friends, and singing.
Little M loved it - she knew it was for her. I find that so interesting.
This generation doesn't give too much credence in television shows like I did. I literally used to sit with my kids and watch them too! I LOVED SESAME STREET!
Changing gears - I thought this was interesting - I thought it was fake until I checked it out.
DID YOU KNOW THAT CROWS LOOK FOR ANTS WHEN THEY ARE SICK?
It may sound strange at first glance, but it's true: realizing they're sick or annoyed by parasites, crows have a surprising instinctive behavior — they approach the ants, land there for a while, spread their wings, and stay still, allowing the ants to climb all over the place. body, especially between the feathers.
This curious ritual has a vital function. Ants release formic acid, a natural substance with antimicrobial and antiparasitic effect. When being "invaded" by ants, the crow receives a type of natural treatment, almost like a therapeutic bath, that fights fungi, bacteria and parasites that mainly affect its skin and feathers.
This phenomenon is known in science as "anting," and it doesn't just happen to crows. Many birds use this strategy as a form of self-medication - a true example of how animals can use the natural resources around them to stay healthy, without any human intervention.
It's a beautiful reminder that nature functions as a living pharmacy, filled with solutions that living beings themselves know how to access. The instinct behind this behavior shows not only intelligence, but also the species' incredible ability to adapt to the environment they live in.
Crows trace their origins back to the proto-Papuan archipelago about 30 million years ago, evolving from a common ancestor shared with other corvids.
Meaning they are prehistoric.
Edna
I have very sad news for me, but very good for her - my dear friend Edna, passed away yesterday. If you remember she was - I'd say - put out of her home about a year ago.
It has been a h--lish journey for her. God privileged me to go through it with her. We had a little group of six of us that rallied up for her. I admit that it tore me up like nothing I had ever been through, but I am glad I was able to help her some. I learned so much about aging, nursing homes, assisted living, and money. Nothing good either!
She was a strong woman and really didn't complain like I think I would have. She was a woman of faith, so I know where she is. I am so glad I went to see her Friday. What a gift from God. I thought she was doing better, but I guess it was the rally they talk about.
Anyhow I will miss her and I am sad. But I will see her again.
LOVE, NONA AKA CHATTY

You're right about the shows now. I used to watch Sesame Street too.
I heard before about the crows and ants, so interesting!
I remember you sharing about Edna. Glad for her that she is now home!
I'm so sorry that you lost your dear friend, Edna. Wish I could give you an in-person hug! Yes, the TV shows have changed for the better, I think. I'm not tuned into kids' TV, but hurray for learning sign language early! Good stuff!!
I've never heard of Ms.Rachel. All of my grands are older now, but they did love Sesame Street and my daughter loved Strawberry Shortcake too! Sorry to hear about your friend. You were such a good friend to her. As we get older, sad to say, we'll all be losing friends. It happens as we age.
I did not know about the ant thing. Kind of both wonderous and creepy at the same time. I am so sorry about what your friend went through. Old people are not treated with reverence here like they are in Asian countries, and that is a shame. Gosh, I don't know any of the new shows. But I remember Sesame Street, the Electric Company, and Mr. Rodgers.
First, I'm so sorry to hear about Edna. She was fortunate to have a friend like you who visited her now and then and spent special time with her. That is the strangest facts about the Crow. I did not know that. Can you imagine ants crawling all over you? But nature does have a way of healing us when we're not well, and that is a wonderful thing. I've never heard of Miss Rachel before. Oh, Sandie, I used to watch all the shows with my little ones, and not only that, I enjoyed every minute of it. Sesame Street was a big one, and the first original Disney movies were popular back then too. Little Mackenzie looks like she's getting into the show. That strawberry shortcake cake sounds creative and fun. Have a happy May week, Sandie. Can't believe it's mid-May already!
I know you're saddened by Edna's passing, Sandie, but thankfully we know where she is and with whom. I, too, am glad you saw her before she went home. I remember watching Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers with my kids when they were young. How does Mackenzie know at such a young age? Even the back of her head is cute! Blessings!
(((hugs))) I am sorry for your friends passing. We can cling to the promise of knowing we will see her again someday when we all see Jesus.
love you watching programs with M. Its the pure joy of being a grandma. Yes I watched Sesame Street faithfully with my boys. Still remember most of the words and songs to each segment. It was a great learning experience for everyone.
Sue
I remember Sesame Street. Glad you two got to babysit M. James is on an iPad all the time. I sure do hope Adam and Gabby have some control over it. That is extremely interesting about the crow and the ants. My prayers go out to you and Edna's family. ((HUGS))
Oh, how fun that "M" loves Miss Rachel already! When I was a little girl it was Ding Dong School with Miss Frances and Romper Room, and Captain Kangaroo. Then our kids watched Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, and I think Captain Kangaroo was still on. Those were happy times. I am sorry to hear about your friend, but thankful that she was a woman of faith and I know she is at peace now. (((HUGS))). Oh, the story of the ants and crow is very interesting, and I never heard that before! Too bad we can't let the ants heal us that way! Not sure we could stand it! LOL. I wonder if it would work??? Interesting.
I am so sorry for your loss. :(
I remember quite a few shows from my childhood that I enjoyed! Romper Room, The Friendly Giant, The Flintstones...just to name a few!
Crows are amazing and highly intelligent! They are part of the Corvid species...ravens and jackdaws are also part of the Corvid species. God's creation amazes me every day!
Nature is incredible and wildlife very intelligent...it's a shame so many people are blind to it.
I had a feeling she had passed over. She is peaceful now.
I expect you were shocked at what occurs in nursing homes, I think it's the same world wide. They take everything from a person from dignity to money. I trust I never end up in one, I would be complaining constantly!
My deepest condolences for Edna's passing.
I'm so sorry about your friend's passing, Sandie! No doubt, Edna's at peace -- but her loss still hurts. That business about crows and ants gives me the heebie jeebies, lol. Who'd have guessed?
Our Penelope loves Ms. Rachel. Good stuff!
So very sorry about your friends passing.
We did not have much TV when my daughter was little.
Interesting about the crow.
Cathy
l watched Sesame street with my daughter. That and Mr. Rogers.
I also watched Sesame Street with my children and many others in French. I did not know about the crow very interesting. We also are loosing many friends these days unfortunately when we are aging it’s a hard time. ( I will take a picture of our home soon )
It’s funny how every generation has “their” shows, yet the excitement on little kids’ faces never really changes 😊 Ben Ten, Sesame Street, and Strawberry Shortcake instantly bring back memories for so many people. And a homemade Strawberry Shortcake birthday cake? That sounds absolutely adorable and so full of love.
I really like that Miss Rachel includes sign language too. It’s such a thoughtful way to help children connect words with actions and communication. Shows that entertain and genuinely teach are always the best kind.

I remember sesame street and strawberry shortcake as well as others my kids watched. I don't recall Ben ten or Miss Rachel.
That is so interesting about the ants, I had never heard that before.
So very sorry to hear about your friend.
Oh I'm so sorry for your loss. Edna sounds like a incredible woman and knowing she had a strong faith will comfort you when you feel her loss. I know you already know this - its her gain! Praise be to God, our Father.
That is very interesting about the crow. I wonder if "anting" works with humans??
I no longer watch the Children's show but spent nearly 30 years knowing them and watching them I used to adore Little Bear. It came on during naptime for the toddlers and twos, so I would watch it and feed the infants during that time. Such a sweet and calming show.
Enjoyed your post, Sandie. I hope you have a great week!
I am very sorry about the loss of your friend but I am glad you were such a good friend to her. ❤️ I will have to research these kiddie shows now before my Lily gets any bigger! Like you, I loved Sesame Street that was even on for my little sister, who was 10 years younger than me.
Dear Sandie I am so sad for you regarding Edna but glad for her - knowing she is with the Lord. Bet she is telling God what a good friend you were to her here on this earth. God bless you. Sharing those old TV shows reminded me that I grew up with Captain Kangaroo and Captain Penny? How about you? Have a blessed day.
I am so very sorry about the loss of Edna. You were a huge blessing to her and she I know she was to you. Our little ones only get to watch certain shows...and I don't even know what they are. I remember when my grands were growing up, my daughters would not let them watch the smurfs. There were certain things about it that they did not want the kids watching... IDK. Glad you were able to spend the extra time with M. Makes for a great day when babysitting a precious grand...
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Edna. May she rest in peace. Please accept my sincerest condolences.
I used to love Sesame Street. Crows are intelligent creatures.
God bless.
Yes, we liked Canes' But the fires were horrible.
I am so very sad for you losing your friend. What a blessing you were to her and her to you also I’m sure. Sesame Street was our show. Son and I used to watch it together and talk about what we had learned. Lovely memories! Sweet photos of your precious g-g-daughter. Thank you for all the info about the ants. Crows are an amazing bird and very smart.
My deepest sympathy and hugs about your friend. These are tough years and we are blessed with friends who stand by us during the tough times.
I’m so sorry about Edna’s passing.
The crow story is fascinating-- I had no idea about “anting.” It sounds a little unsettling, but nature does have its own ways of healing.
I remember watching Sesame Street with my kids and loving every minute of it.
Wishing you a gentle week, Sandie. May the happy moments with little M bring you comfort alongside the sadness. 🌸
Oh!! I'm SO Sorry about your friend, sweet lady!!!
Loved the crow story...wow!
hugs
