"Life is lived forward, but understood backward. It is not until we are down the road and we stand on the mountain looking back through the valley that we can appreciate the terrain God has allowed us to scale.” Jill Savage

Happy St. Patrick's Day - A St. Patrick's Day Blessing to You - I do have some Irish blood . . . and my favorite color is Kelly green.

Bless us with good food, the gift of gab and hearty laughter. May the love and joy we share be with us ever after.

I received a reply to my Blog yesterday and what she wrote to me was "I think what you are describing is - Surrender. Ah what a great word to encapsulate all the hundreds of words I wrote. (Some people are so talented.) I don't know if it matters how many words you use to get a message across, but hers did explain what I was saying in another and much simpler way. Once I read her words, I felt more serenity and peace. Which I needed. Sometimes you can do nothing but wait.

Reminds me of the Serenity Prayer - God give me the wisdom to change the things I can, the courage to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdome to know the difference. Hmm...

"Oh surrender is much sweeter when we both let it go," from Keith Urban himself (Lol).

Yesterday I noticed I was writing about Survival Technique's. In fact I think I gave you five. I probably have a hundred. Now why would I have survival techniques at my finger tips? Because I'm a survivor. Aren't we all?

I know at times I sound like I'm a woman's libber and I guess in a way I am. Women have been treated like second hand citizens for too long. I'm not so much talking in this Blog about the typical kinds of rights for woman that most people might think of when you talk about women's rights - like equal jobs for equal pay. What I'm talking about here are the rights that came into being due to women being able to get into the work force because of women's lib and how it has changed their life. Does that make sense?

For example. In the 50's and 60's - women were treated as a possessions. If a man for instance abused his wife (or child for that matter), and if the police would come out to the house in investigate(?), and if the woman was allowed to press charges - the male judge would just turn the wife back over to her husband and that was it - she was in more trouble then she would've been had she not pressed charges. (Burning Bed - Farrah Faucet) Sometimes women had to take things into their own hands. (Martina McBride - Independence Day). It was not until women got into the work place and became judges and lawyers themselves, that they saw what was happening to these women, started listening, and then started saving them from their abusive lives.

You can be a survivor of abuse, neglect, starvation, cancer, the Holocaust, WWII, a Viet Nam Vet - anything you can think of - and you either learn to survive or you don't. #1-Stand up for what you believe in. (An an interesting note - I think Anne Frank was a survivor even if she didn't literally survive).

Another survival technique can I give you today - #2 quotes and positives words make you stronger. Here's one I just got that I liked:

Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of joy you must have somebody to divide it with. -Mark Twain (Have Friends #3)

And here's #4. Write, write, and write - journal . . . Do you know you can make a revolution with pens?

"Making words slant across the page was like making rain. Flowers grew in ink. Hurricanes and revolutions were stirred up by the sound of pen scratching paper."~ Erica Jong ~

The power of the written word. We can share the passions in our life and all the possibilities life holds - with words.

"If you want to change the world," said Martin Luther, "pick up your pen."

That's deep enough for today. On the lighter side let me tell you that I am a 'singing grandma'. Next to writing, music is my passion. I tell my grandson, "There's a song about everything." He has a lot of fun testing me on that too. So far, I've always thought of one for him. Music is my #5 survival technique for the day. It tells a story that can speak to your heart if you let it.

St. Patrick's Day is an enchanted time – a day to begin transforming winter's dreams into summer's magic.-- Adrienne Cook

Love your blog, especially the part where you say, "Now why would I have survival techniques at my finger tips? Because I'm a survivor. Aren't we all?" I couldn't agree more with you. You should tune in to the new real-life series "I Survived." The show gives insight on very valuable survival techniques, and how individuals overcame unbelievable circumstances. It's very inspirational. The premiere is March 25 @ 9pm ET. Check out http://www.bio.tv for more info. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, does that sound like a show that would interest you?
