"Life is lived forward, but understood backward. It is not until we are down the road and we stand on the mountain looking back through the valley that we can appreciate the terrain God has allowed us to scale.” Jill Savage

Agatha Christie

Tip of the Day:
What It Takes to Burn Off a Chocolate Shake
When it's hot outside, there's nothing like the icy, creamy goodness of a chocolate shake. But if you're looking to shake up your diet and exercise routine, slurping one down isn't the way to go. In addition to the scoops of ice cream, most shakes are made with whole milk, upping the fat and calorie content even more. Here's a look at just how much exercise you'll need to do to burn off that shake:
16-ounce chocolate shake: 478 calories
Exercise Equivalents
Walking: 123 minutes
Biking: 68 minutes
Running: 51 minutes
If you're at the local ice cream parlor and looking for a healthier icy beverage, ask them to make it with low-fat chocolate yogurt and skim milk.

Better move to Hershey, PA where you can smell the chocolate at no calories.

5 Facts about Agatha Christie:

1. Christie has been referred to by the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling writer of books of all time and the best-selling writer of any kind, along with William Shakespeare. Only the Bible is known to have outsold her collected sales of roughly four billion copies of novels

2. During the First World War she worked at a hospital as a nurse; she liked the profession, calling it "one of the most rewarding professions that anyone can follow".She later worked at a pharmacy, a job that influenced her work, as many of the murders in her books are carried out with poison.

3. Despite turbulent courtship, on Christmas Eve 1914 Agatha married Archibald Christie, an aviator in the Royal Flying Corps. The couple had one daughter, Rosalind Hicks. They divorced in 1928, two years after Christie discovered her husband was having an affair.

4. In 1930 Christie married archaeologist Max Mallowan after joining him in an archaeological dig. Their marriage was especially happy in the early years and remained so until Christie’s death in 1976.

5. From 1971 to 1974, Christie's health began to fail; however, she continued to write. Recently, using experimental, computerized, textual tools of analysis, Canadian researchers have suggested that Christie may have begun to suffer from Alzheimer's disease or other dementia.

Life is always a hoot. When I was in history class in school I don't know if I was all that interested in history - maybe these birthdays of famous people isn't exactly history either - but I am finding out truly amazing things. This month of September doesn't have all that many - but there are some histories of people that are truly amazing that I have found out.

One common thread I'm finding out - the more 'usual' the childhood - the more brilliant the thinker - deep deep thinker. You'll see.

In the long run men hit only what they aim at. Therefore, though they should fail immediately, they had better aim at something high. Henry David Thoreau

It's a rainy day in Georgia and I feel like it's raining all over the world - would be a great day for some real gelato. Calories or no calories.
