Would you rather be liked or loved?

Happy Birthday Teddy - whose light went out of his life when his wife died - ah - how romantic.

"Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground."– Theodore Roosevelt

Now one other fact I got when I went to Alaska was this - if I am correct. Roosevelt re-named Mount Denali (the Alaskans call it) and said that the mountain was a big as McKinley (something like that) and the name stuck to the mountain out there as Mount McKinley. Now the map makers and every one call it that - however the Alaskans want things fixed and named Mt. Denali. Something like that. Roosevelt was McKinley's successor.

Okay since we're speaking of love today (yes - we were - lol) - I always have to check in once in awhile on that topic.

"Love For a Lifetime...

I add my breath to your breath
that our days be long on the Earth
that the days of our people may be long,
that we shall be as one person,
that we may finish our road together."

I do always think about love. There are so many types - I remember studying in my Disciple Class:
There are four kinds of love: agape, philia, storge, and eros.

Agape -- unconditional love, God for mankind

Philia -- Philiadepia, the city of brotherly love, or love that exists between close friends.

Storge -- Love that grows between family members.

Eros -- sexual, exotic love'

Now here is the definition of the word like:
Definitions of like on the Web:

wish: prefer or wish to do something; Would you like to come along to the movies?"

find enjoyable or agreeable; "She likes to read Russian novels"

resembling or similar; having the same or some of the same characteristics; often used in combination; "suits of like design";

be fond of; "I like my nephews"

equal in amount or value; "like amounts"; "equivalent amounts"; "the same amount"; "gave one six blows and the other a like number";

feel about or towards; consider, evaluate, or regard; "How did you like the President's speech last night?"

a similar kind; "we don't want the likes of you around here"

alike(p): having the same or similar characteristics; "friends are generally alike in background and taste"

want to have; "I'd like a beer now!"

a kind of person; "We'll not see his like again"; "I can't tolerate people of his ilk"

comparable: conforming in every respect; "boxes with corresponding dimensions";

So the question or thought of the day - would you rather be liked or loved? And do you have to be open to either? "When one teaches, two learn". ~ Robert Half

Don't forget to run in the rain . . .

Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions, they can take away your money, and they can take away your health.

BUT NO ONE can ever take away your precious memories...

So, don't forget to make time and take the opportunities to make memories everyday.

I HOPE YOU STILL TAKE THE TIME TO RUN THROUGH THE RAIN.

Maybe you'll find a rainbow there.

Happy birthday to Emeril - my kind of man - a chef!

Contribution to Space Exploration (from Wikipedia)

In August 2006, Lagasse contributed several recipes to the meal selection aboard the International Space Station, as part of a general NASA effort to improve the quality of the food supply for astronauts. Lagasse’s cuisine in particular was selected in the hopes that the spicier fare would offset the reported tendency of microgravity to deaden flavors.

There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. - Anais Nin.

"Develop interest in life as you see it; in people, things, literature, music-- the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls, and interesting people. Forget yourself." ~ Henry Miller

That is a wonderful wonderful quote! It's true, but . . . it's a double edge sword.

Do you know what the easiest way to beat depression? To avoid feeling sad?

Keep continuously busy - in any way, shape or form.

Do you know what the easiest way to avoid dealing with an issue is? To avoid seeing the truth?

Keep continuously busy - in any way, shape or form.

Whether it's being on the computer, talking on the phone (I have one friend on the phone from the minute he gets up to the minute he goes to bed), watching television, games on the computer, hand held games like the DS and Wii, drinking, eating, reading, shopping, out with friends, volunteer work, crafts, working, listening to music, dancing, dreaming . . .

I'm not saying these things are bad - just the opposite - these things are great! I do them myself. When I feel down and I don't want to feel down - I keep busy to beat depression - to avoid thinking about my troubles.

When I'm hurting and I don't want to feel the pain, I keep busy. Yes, there are some times when I deliberately chose not to feel.

There is a time to keep busy, but there is a time to refrain from keeping busy and there is a very fine line and one that is easy to cross. I think the real 'issue' for me is how much time I chose to be busy and how much time I chose to feel and deal with life.

If I find that I'm choosing more time trying to keep busy and to not feel - that becomes a warning signal to me that something is not right and I need to check things out.

If I find that I'm choosing more time worrying and analyzing things (feeling too much), then I know it's time to keep busy and play.

How does one find the middle? It's like the Chakras (did you guys take the time to do the test to find why you have certain health issues in certain areas?) - you have to be somewhere near the middle to function properly in all aspects of life.

Functioning properly is the key to a healthly life - being in the middle of the road - that's one lesson I need to learn.

There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. - Anais Nin. (I love, love, love, love this quote.)

So enjoy life, feel everything, keep busy when you need too, but if you get to busy, too stressed, too overwhelmed - stop for a minute or two and breathe. Do something different. Stop. Have some DELIBERATE fun and love. Don't be afraid to change, take a risk, be more afraid of staying in the same place your in. The truth is you may get stuck being a busy bee or a worry wart . . .

Meditations for Saturday

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. EXPLORE!

"For today's meditation, we turn to British novelist Iris Murdoch, who tells us...
Our minds are continually active, fabricating an anxious, usually self-preoccupied veil which partially conceals the world."

To begin, take our usual three long, slow deep breaths and focus inwardly.

Once you're focused, slow that mind of yours down by putting your attention and yourself in that quiet place between inhalations and exhalations.

That's how you lift the veil which partially conceals the world.

Slow down that thinking until it stops and you'll lift the veil completely.

When you lift the veil completely, you'll see and know the world as it is and always has been! "

From Chet Day
Editor, Earth Leaves Meditations

You must ask yourself some questions:

1. Do you want to take the risk and see what the world looks like without the veil?

2. What is the veil?

3, Do you want to chose to lift the veil?

4. Do you have the desire to lift the veil?

5. Do you have the commitment to lift the veil?

6. Do you really want to see the world as it really is? (A lot of people don't want to see the world - the truth of what is.)

7. Do you want to take the risk, because it is a risk? Seeing life without the veil (blinders) - well first of all, it's painfully hard at times and it can be scary as well. There is no guarantee that you will be the same person after taking the time to see how the world really is - in fact you won't be the same - you can count on it. Hopefully the change will be for the better - if you do it right.

8. What the heck am I talking about? Change of course. So many times we as people get stuck where we are. We want to change, we know we should change - but it's hard and painful.

Change involves risks. Change involves seeing the truth - whether is hurts or not. It takes hard work and commitment. Do you have to do this - absolutely not! Some people are happy right where they are and that is fine. However if you really feel in your gut that there is more to life then where you are - changing may be the answer.

Next week I am spending time on how to change - to grow. Personally I need it.

Love and spending some time today lifting my veil. Just one one minute at a time.

Fun Friday Strikes Again

Halloween Treats:

Milky Way (2.05 ounces): 270 calories, 10 g fat, 41 g carbs If you're noshing on energy bars before a workout or as an afternoon snack, beware of some of these "health" bars — the number of calories can be the same as for any candy bar. For instance, a single Clif Builder's Chocolate Bar packs 270 calories, which is nearly equal to a Snickers. If you're looking for dark chocolate's antioxidant power, have a Dove Dark Chocolate Bar (1.3 ounces, 200 calories). For the biggest antioxidant bang for your buck, go for Mars' CocoaVia (80 calories, www.cocoavia.com), which is tasty and was specifically designed to pack in the heart-healthy flavonols. Or if it's simply a chocolate treat you're seeking, try a York Peppermint Pattie (1.4 ounces, 160 calories) or a Milky Way Lite (1.57 ounces, 170 calories).

Do you know what the picture above says?

How old is Grandpa???

One evening a grandson was talking to his grandfather about current events.
The grandson asked his grandfather what he thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age, and things in general.

The Grandfather replied, 'Well, let me think a minute, I was born before:

' television

' penicillin

' polio shots

' frozen foods

' Xerox

' contact lenses

' Frisbees and

' the pill

There were no:
' credit cards
' laser beams or

' ball-point pens

Man had not invented:

' pantyhose

' air conditioners

' dishwashers

' clothes dryers

' and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and

' man hadn't yet walked on the moon

Your Grandmother and I got married first, . . . then lived together.

Every family had a father and a mother.

Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, 'Sir'.
And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, 'Sir.'

We were before gay-rights, computer- dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy.

Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense.

We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.

Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege.

We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with you or cousins.

Draft dodgers were people who closed their front doors when the evening breeze started.

Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends-not purchasing condominiums.

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.

We listened to the Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on our radios.

And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey.
If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan ' on it, it was junk

The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.

Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee was unheard of.

We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents.

Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a nickel

And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.

You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600, . . . but who could afford one?
Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.

In my day:

' 'grass' was mowed,

' 'coke' was a cold drink,

' 'pot' was something your mother cooked in and

' 'rock music' was your grandmother's lullaby.

' 'Aids' were helpers in the Principal's office,

' ' chip' meant a piece of wood,

' 'hardware' was found in a hardware store and

' 'software' wasn't even a word.

And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby.

No wonder people call us 'old and confused' and say there is a generation gap... and how old do you think I am?

I bet you have this old man in mind...you are in for a shock!

Read on to see -- pretty scary if you think about it and pretty sad at the same time.

Are you ready ?????

This man would be only 59 years old!

You will see the fish swimming in the lake. Click on the place in the lake you want the man to cast his line. Remember the fish are swimming and if you click on the fish by the time he casts his line the fish will have moved beyond that point. A man staggers into an emergency room with a concussion, multiple bruises, two black eyes and a five iron wrapped tightly around his throat.

Naturally, the doctor asks him what happened. "Well, it was like this", said the man.
"I was having a quiet round of golf with my wife, when a t a difficult hole, we both sliced our balls into a pasture of cows.

We went to look for them, and while I was rooting around noticed one of the cows had something
white at its rear end.

I walked over and lifted up the tail, and sure enough, there was a golf ball with my wife's monogram on it--stuck right in the middle of the cow's butt.

That's when I made my big mistake." "What did you do?" asks the doctor. "Well, I lifted the cow's tail and yelled to my wife, 'Hey, this looks like yours!"

I don't remember much after that.

KNOW THE SYMPTOMS...

PLEASE READ
!

Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder. Somehow I feel better, even though I have it!!

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.

As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Coke is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Coke on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day: the car isn't washed the bills aren't paid there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers don't have enough water, there is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired.

What Old People Do For Fun:

GENEALOGY -

A little girl asked her mother, "How did the human race appear?" The
mother answered, "God made Adam and Eve and they had children and so was all mankind made."

Two days later the girl asked her father the same question. The father answered, "Many years ago there were monkeys from which the human race evolved."

The confused girl returned to her mother and said, "Mom, how is it possible that you told me the human race was created by God, and Papa said they developed from monkeys?"

The mother answered, "Well, dear, it is very simple. I told you about my side of the family and your father told you about his."

Okay - it's Sunday so something related to church seems appropriate. Going back to my experience at the program they had last weekend for my nephew's rehab - one group played this song which I LOVE! It's country music and it's by Lady Antebellum. It's called I Run To You. I've heard it so many times and I know the feeling of needing someone and the pain you're in wishing for that person to run to.

Imagine thinking of that song - in a church - seeing people singing it with great passion and emotion - with their arms held high up in the air - singing to Jesus or God if that be your faith.

I never thought about that - you know - hearing the song on the country radio - thinking about love and earthly things - then transporting the song to another place with an entirely different meaning.

Kind of gives you hope.

Music can be all things to all persons.

Music can be all things to all persons. It is like a great dynamic sun in the center of a solar system which sends out its rays and inspiration in every direction....Music makes us feel that the heavens open and a divine voice calls. Something in our souls responds and understands.
- Leopold Stokowski“

Trisha YearwoodFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Born September 19, 1964 Monticello, Georgia

1. Discovered by Garth Brooks in the late 1980s. She married him too!

2. With "She's in Love with the Boy," Yearwood became the first female country artist in almost twenty years to reach #1 on the country charts with a debut single.

3. In 2001, in conjunction with the movie, The Tangerine Bear, Yearwood joined with the Children's Foundation and donated a mobile electronic fun center to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

4. In April 2008, Yearwood released her first cookbook co-written with her mother, Gwen and sister, Beth entitled, Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen.

5. In 1996, while flying from Nevada to New York, Trisha saved a man's life. Francesco Maccarrone, a baggage handler, was trapped in the belly of the plane. When the plane left the gate, Trisha heard pounding and screaming from under her seat and insisted the pilot stop the plane. After he emerged from the plane a shaken but relieved Francesco said, "I was a big Reba fan, but now I'm an even bigger Trisha fan."

We went last Saturday - before I came down with the flu - to the rehab center my nephew is in. He seems to be doing great - has even put on a little weight. The program is extremely Christian based. He'll have been there a year this October.

Anyway - the service - was 3 plus hours long. I have to tell you it was just awesome. I've never been in church for three hours before I don't think. But they had all these musical acts. Different genres. Bluegrass, rock and roll, country, etc. It was awesome. And how fitting it is with a quote about the power of music and that it is Trisha's birthday!

Something happened that amazed me. There was a trio of women singing. They came to one song and while they were waiting to get the problem with the music fixed they started talking. It was not rehearsed. It was like the spirit of God had moved them.

Now here I was admiring them and they were so pretty and self confident - there I was wishing I could sing like that - and wham - the first woman is talking to the group of 'ex' addicts telling them that her 23 year old son was lost in sexual addiction and would we all pray for him. The second woman spoke and said her pain with God was that she was never able to have children and the third one spoke up telling us how sick she was!

Was it the music? The presence of the men there? The presence of God? Maybe all three moved them.

What I wanted to express and remember from this experience is - no matter who we are or where we are or how we present ourselves - we all have our huge problems. We may think someone is perfect and then when the walls come down - we see they are human - like us.

I guess (?) the difference is some people can open up and others just can't. Personally, sharing to me made my respect for them deeper. No surprise there though - huh? I learned so much and I appreciated their honesty. What an amazing trio of women.

I want to be alone . . .Great Garbo

Greta Garbo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
18 September 1905 - Died 15 April 1990 (aged 84)
New York City, New York, United States

1.Regarded as one of the greatest and most inscrutable movie stars ever produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and the Hollywood studio system.

2.Her first job was as a soap-lather girl in a barbershop.

3.Her name was linked with John Gilbert in a much publicized romance, and she was said to have left him standing at the altar in 1926, when she changed her mind about getting married.

4. Having achieved enormous success as a silent movie star, she was one of the few actors or actresses who made the transition to talkies.

5. Garbo became known as a recluse; throughout her lifetime she conducted no interviews, signed no autographs, attended no social functions and answered no fan mail. Today she is often associated with her famous line from Grand Hotel: "I want to be alone", spoken in a heavy accent which substituted the w with a v sound. However, Garbo later commented, "I never said, 'I want to be alone.' I only said, 'I want to be let alone.' There is all the difference."

She was an interesting woman - there's more to her than met the eye - check her out.

BITCHOLOGY

When I stand up for
Myself and my beliefs,
They call me a
Bitch...

When I stand up for
Those I love,
They call me a
Bitch.

When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts
Or do things my own way, they call me a
Bitch.

Being a bitch
Means I won't
Compromise what's
In my heart.

When I refuse to
Tolerate injustice and
Speak against it, I am
Defined as a Bitch.

The same thing happens when I take time for Myself instead of being everyone's maid, or when I act a little selfish.

It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly am and won't become anyone else's idea of what they think I 'should' be.

ONLY MARRIED MEN THINK THIS WAY

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband is not in bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wiped a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee.

'What's the matter, dear?' she whispers as she steps into the room, 'Why are you down here at this time of night?

The husband looks up from his coffee, 'It's the 20th Anniversary of the day we met'.

She can't believe he has remembered and starts to tear up.

The husband continues, 'Do you remember 20 years ago when we started dating? I was 18and you were only 16,' he says solemnly.

Once again, the wife is touched to tears thinking that her husband is so caring and sensitive. 'Yes, I do' she replies.

The husband pauses. The words were not coming easily. 'Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car?'

'Yes, I remember' said the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him.

The husband continued. 'Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, 'Either you marry my daughter or I will send you to prison for 20 years?'

'I remember that, too' she replied softly.

He wiped another tear from his cheek and said 'I would have gotten out today.'

A six-year-old boy told his father he wanted to marry the little girl across the street. The father, being modern and well-schooled in handling children, hid his smile behind his hand.

"That's a serious step," he said. "Have you thought it out completely?"

"Yes," his young son answered. "We can spend one week in my room and the next in hers. It's right across the street, so I can run home if I get scared of the dark."

"How about transportation?" the father asked.

"I have my wagon, and we both have our tricycles," the little boy answered.

The boy had an answer to every question the father raised.

Finally, in exasperation, his dad asked, "What about babies? When you're married, you're liable to have babies, you know."

"We've thought about that, too," the little boy replied.

"We're not going to have babies. Every time she lays an egg, I'm going to step on it!"

Atlantans only know their way to work and their way home. If you ask anyone for directions, they will always send you down Peachtree.

Atlanta is the home of Coca-Cola. Coke's all they drink there so don't ask for any other soft drink unless it's made by Coca-Cola. Even if you want something other than a Coca-Cola, it's still called Coke.

The gates at Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport are about 32 miles away from the Main Concourse, so wear sneakers and pack a lunch.

The 8 AM rush hour is from 6:30 to 10:30 AM.

The 5 PM rush hour is from 3:00 to 7:30 PM. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday afternoon and lasts through 2 AM Saturday.

Only a native of Atlanta can pronounce Ponce De Leon Avenue, so do not attempt the Spanish pronunciation. People will simply tilt their heads to the right and stare at you. The Atlanta pronunciation is "pawntz duh LEE-awn."

And yes, they have a street named simply, "Boulevard."

The falling of one raindrop causes all drivers to immediately forget all traffic rules. If a single snowflake falls, the city is paralyzed for three days and it's on all the channels as a news flash every 15 minutes for a week. Overnight, all grocery stores will be sold out of milk, bread, bottled water, toilet paper, and beer.

I-285, the loop that encircles Atlanta, which has a posted speed limit of 55 mph (but you have to maintain 80 mph just to keep from getting run over), is known to truckers as "The Watermelon 500."

Don't believe the directional markers on highways: I-285 is marked East and West but you may be going North or South. The locals identify the direction by referring to the "Inner Loop" and the "Outer Loop ."

If you travel on Hwy 92 North, you will actually be going southeast.

Never buy a ladder or mattress in Atlanta. Just go to one of the interstates and you will soon find one in the middle of the road.

The last thing you want to do is give another driver the finger, unless your car is armored, your trigger finger is itchy and your AK-47 has a full clip.

Possums sleep in the middle of the road with their feet in the air.

There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 live in Georgia ..

There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 live in Georgia, plus a couple no one has seen before.
If it grows, it sticks.
If it crawls, it bites.
If you notice a vine trying to wrap itself around your leg, you have about 20 seconds to escape, before you are completely captured and covered with Kudzu, another ill-advised "import," like the Carp, Starling, English Sparrow, and other 'exotic wonders'.

It's not a shopping cart, it's a buggy.

"Fixinto" is one word (I'm fixinto go to the store).

Sweet Tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're 2 years old.

"Jeet?" is actually a phrase meaning "Did you eat?"

"Momma-nem" means: How's Mother and all of the other children and other members of the family doing.

If you understand these jokes, forward them to your friends from Atlanta, Georgia and those who just wish they were.

Lordy, I love ATLANTA

"Don't wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.” —Mark Victor Hansenauthor.

You know the funny thing about life is - and I wonder if any of you feel the same way - I can totally envision what I want my life to be like, I just don't know how to get there. It's not that I'm afraid to go there - there just seems to be a step missing - the stepping stone or bridge from where I am at now to where I want to go. Have any of you ever felt that way?

Is it all about taking that leap of faith?

Peter Falk - From Wikipedia

1. Born Peter Michael Falk in New York City. His mother was Russian and his father was Polish, Hungarian, and Czech descent.

4. He applied for a job with the CIA, but was rejected because of his membership in the Marine Cooks and Stewards Union while serving in the Merchant Marine, even though he was required to join and was not active in the union!

6. In May 2009, it was reported that Falk is suffering from dementia, and he no longer remembers his role in Columbo. In June 2009, a conservatorship was placed on him by a California.

It does seem to happen to the best of us - life - growing old.

We struggle as youngsters to become adults.

We struggle as adults to buy cars, houses, get married, raise our kids, take care of our elderly parents, and save for our old age.

Then when we feel we've finally 'made it' to our golden years - life becomes a crap shoot (excuse my language) where some people fair better than others. Why that is no one knows.

Yet, look at Amy who we all are praying for in her 30's. Really when you think about things - 'life' can happen to any one at any age - there are no insurance policies. Of course middle-agers get the most because of our age and that is to be expected. We also pray for our one friend whose husband has Alzheimer's.

What you need in life to help you deal - I believe are things called 'sighs'. I didn't even realize they had a name until my friend Jean sent me an email yesterday called Puppy Size.

Puppy Size...
Danielle keeps repeating it over and over again. We've been back to this animal shelter at least five times. It has been weeks now since we started all of this,' the mother told the volunteer.

'What is it she keeps asking for?' the volunteer asked. 'Puppy size!' replied the mother.

'Well, we have plenty of puppies, if that's what she's looking for.' 'I know..... we have seen most of them, ' the mom said in frustration...

Just then Danielle came walking into the office 'Well, did you find one?' asked her mom.

'No, not this time,' Danielle said with sadness in her voice. 'Can we come back on the weekend?'

The two women looked at each other, shook their heads and laughed 'You never know when we will get more dogs. Unfortunately, there's always a supply,' the volunteer said.

Danielle took her mother by the hand and headed to the door. 'Don't worry, I'll find one this weekend,' she said.

Over the next few days both Mom and Dad had long conversations with her. They both felt she was being too particular. 'It's this weekend or we're not looking any more,' Dad finally said in frustration.

'We don't want to hear anything more about puppy size, either,' Mom added.

Sure enough, they were the first ones in the shelter on Saturday morning . By now Danielle knew her way around, so she ran right for the section that housed the smaller dogs.

Tired of the routine, mom sat in the small waiting room at the end of the first row of cages. There was an observation window so you could see the animals during times when visitors weren't permitted.

Danielle walked slowly from cage to cage, kneeling periodically to take a closer look. One by one the dogs were brought out and she held each one.
One by one she said, 'Sorry, but you're not the one.'

It was the last cage on this last day in search of the perfect pup. The volunteer opened the cage door and the child carefully picked up the dog and held it closely. This time she took a little longer.

'Mom, that's it! I found the right puppy! He's the one! I know it!' She screamed with joy. 'It's the puppy size!'

'But it's the same size as all the other puppies you held over the last few weeks,' Mom said.

'No not size... The sighs. When I held him in my arms, he sighed,' she said.
'Don't you remember? When I asked you one day what love is, you told me love depends on the sighs of your heart. The more you love, the bigger the sigh!'

The two women looked at each other for a moment. Mom didn't know whether to laugh or cry. As she stooped down to hug the child, she did a little of both.

'Mom, every time you hold me, I sigh. I knew I would find the right puppy if it sighed when I held it in my arms,' she said. Then, holding the puppy up close to her face, she said, 'Mom, he loves me. I heard the sighs of his heart!'

Close your eyes for a moment and think about the love that makes you sigh. I not only find it in the arms of my loved ones, but in the caress of a sunset, the kiss of the moonlight and the gentle brush of cool air on a hot day.

They are the sighs of God. Take the time to stop and listen; you will be surprised at what you hear. 'Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.' Life is too short to wake up with regrets.

I hope your life is filled with Sighs!!!
Wishing all of us some sighs, to go along with our journey called life.
