Chatty venting . . .

If you really do put a small value upon yourself, rest assured that the world will not raise your price.

If my blog is about any one thing - and it's not - but if there was an over riding theme - or idea - I want to get across to myself and to others - it would be to look for the positive side of life instead of the negative. To learn to love yourself. That is even a commandment - to love others as you love yourself. I mean how can you love others if you don't?

It is a choice.

You can chose to be negative, bitter, and unhappy - not liking yourself or your life OR you can chose to be positive, sweet, and happy. I don't know if the first way, if people actually get something out of their decision or not, but when I get that way and I do sometimes - I don't like it or myself. Now the second one - while not always easy - makes me feel better.

Every once in awhile I get on the band wagon here and I have to vent - sorry. I have two people in my life that chose not to change. At times shoot arrows in me and I have to spend time pulling those dang arrows out of me and trying to fix the hole! Do you get arrows shot at you?

Write the bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble. - Arabic Proverb
Speaking of shooting how apropos - Happy birthday James Hickok - wikipedia

James Butler Hickok (May 27, 1837 – August 2, 1876), better known as Wild Bill Hickok, was a figure in the American Old West. His skills as a gunfighter and scout, along with his reputation as a lawman, provided the basis for his fame, although some of his exploits are fictionalized. His nickname of Wild Bill has inspired similar nicknames for men known for their daring in various fields.

Hickok came to the West as a stagecoach driver, then became a lawman in the frontier territories of Kansas and Nebraska. He fought in the Union Army during the American Civil War, and gained publicity after the war as a scout, marksman, and professional gambler. Between his law-enforcement duties and gambling, which easily overlapped, Hickok was involved in several notable shootouts, and was ultimately killed while playing poker in a Dakota Territory saloon.

No arrows being shot into me lately! I think you just need to stay away from those people as much as possible.

But I want that pair of rose-colored glasses.

Hi Sandie...I think we've all had arrows shot at us from time to time. Sometimes they even feel like a meat cleaver! ha! However, I'm not going to let the pain continue for long. I'll find myself just moving onward and upward.

Great post, Sandie. Sincerely, Susan

I think sometimes people get into that trap of bitterness and negativity and its the only way they know how to live and sometimes they don't even realize how their bitterness and negativity affects others. I think a lot of them have such a "me-me" attitude that they can't see beyond anything other than that, and then there are those people who are so unhappy that they want to cause others to join them in their unhappy state and shoot those arrows you were talking about. I'm sorry you have two such people in your life, and probably by the way you vented here, they are probably close to you which makes it even harder to distance yourself from such a type of person. I think it is hard to always be up and positive and not negative and bitter, but it is not impossible. Seeking God and serving others first over ourselves is always a good way to take the emphasis off of ourselves and really see how good we have it, even in the hardest of times.

insightful post today Sandie

(and yes, I get a few arrows shot my way more than I would like)

Oh yes sister I do indeed know what you mean. Yep it still happens from time to time with me but I made a decision 8 years ago to try a different way of life and I am blessed in knowing I have the choice each day for a do-over to get it right and see the positive in all people places and things and if I can't find some then I need to just keep on and tell my story walking. We can't control the world and how others view life but we can change our own attitudes, Luv ya girl, Mollye

Hey Sandie!

I try to stay on the positive side. Right now I don't think I have any arrows being aimed my way. A few years back I decided to end all of the relationships with the people who shot those arrows at me. I'm a much happier person because of it too!

Hope things are better today!

Could you put some of those eggs in frig. I would love to wake up to them tomorrow.

Just put the arrow shooters out of your mind. God loves you and if you love yourself thats all that counts.

We all have our own circumstances to work around. We can choose to be happy or not! That's not to say we won't get down from time to time, but with God on our side, we have to trust that it will all be OK. :)

Many times I force myself to smile when it MUST look like a grimace to all.
Arrows be damned....people always send zingers out...it gets tiresome to dodge all the time, but it truly does NOT do any good to send them back their way.
This was a good post Sandie...made us all think.

We all need to remember that proverb! Just keep smilin' and move on!

Great post Sandie. I always try to focus on the positive and don't dwell on the past.

I was going to say you needed an
ARMOUR to keep the arrows away.
I see someone else was thinking the same thoughts

I hate that someone is shooting arrows at you! I'd like to break those arrows over their heads! Just hold up the shield of the Word against them, Sandie, and they will fall right back on them. No weapon formed against you shall prosper, so says the Scripture.

Thank you so much for sending Mr. Magpie those sweet birthday wishes. He read them tonight, and he was so touched. You helped make his day! :-)

Happy Memorial Day to you, my friend. See you after I get back from a little blog break. Lots going on here.

XO,

Sheila :-)

That is an awesome proverb! I could definitely live by that!

Yep, Those arrows hurt alright, when they hit... the more you love the shooter, the more they hurt, too! I have to put a bit of distance between me and the shooter sometimes, and just pray for them, and then usually the Lord helps me to overcome the problems enough to get on with it. You are right, though. It does no good to shoot back and it does help when we make the choice to walk positively, though a lot of times, I have to lean on the Lord to do THAT much... Glad HE's got a strong shoulder to lean on!

Maybe some of us needed to hear this from you today to remind us...

It is reported that the first documented wild west gunfight occurred here in Springfield, MO after the Civil War between Wild Bill Hickok and a feller who called his bluff. For he had won Hickok's watch in a poker game, and Wild Bill told him to not let him catch him showing it off anywhere. I can't remember if there was actually a trial, but all charges against Wild Bill for killing the guy were dropped.
