Simple Pleasures

Please visit Dayle at A Little of This and That and see what she and others feel are simple pleasures.

THE SIMPLE PLEASURE OF AN ORDINARY DAY

Now this is a seven minute video. It will be worth even one of the seven minutes you spend on it. It might change the way you look at life . . .

And while this is about mothers and children . . . I believe you can use the thoughts here and adapt it to many things . . .

I hope you remember the simple pleasure of an ordinary day.

How many of us agrees with this and knows how true it is? It brings tears to me every time I watch it.

SANDIE

I have waited for this day for so long - a year. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mother Teresa - one of my most loved females in the world. What a woman. Wikipedia

Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu (Gonxhe meaning "rosebud" in Albanian) was born on 26 August 1910, in Üsküb, Ottoman Empire (now Skopje, capital of the Republic of Macedonia). Although she was born on 26 August, she considered 27 August, the day she was baptized, to be her "true birthday."

She was the youngest of the children of a family from Shkodër, Albania, born to Nikollë and Drana Bojaxhiu. Her father, who was involved in Albanian politics, died in 1919 when she was eight years old. After her father's death, her mother raised her as a Roman Catholic. Her father's origin was possibly from Prizren, Kosovo while her mother's origin was possibly from a village near Gjakova, Kosovo.

According to a biography by Joan Graff Clucas, in her early years Agnes was fascinated by stories of the lives of missionaries and their service, and by age 12 was convinced that she should commit herself to a religious life. She left home at age 18 to join the Sisters of Loreto as a missionary. She never again saw her mother or sister.

Agnes initially went to the Loreto Abbey in Rathfarnham, Ireland to learn English, the language the Sisters of Loreto used to teach school children in India. She arrived in India in 1929, and began her novitiate in Darjeeling, near the Himalayan mountains. She took her first religious vows as a nun on 24 May 1931. At that time she chose the name Teresa after Thérèse de Lisieux, the patron saint of missionaries. She took her solemn vows on 14 May 1937, while serving as a teacher at the Loreto convent school in eastern Calcutta.

Although Teresa enjoyed teaching at the school, she was increasingly disturbed by the poverty surrounding her in Calcutta. The Bengal famine of 1943 brought misery and death to the city; and the outbreak of Hindu/Muslim violence in August 1946 plunged the city into despair and horror.

It's not easy to be a nun! I really respected her. She gave her life for others. A side note - she died the same year my brother died. I remember thinking what great company he had up there. And this is off track, but Princess Diana died that year too. Funny what your mind remembers.

QUOTES:

I have found the paradox that if I love until it hurts, then there is no hurt, but only more love. -Mother Teresa, "The Simple Path"

It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us...Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start.
- Mother Teresa

Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless. -Mother Teresa

The world today is upside down because there is so very little love in the home, and in family life. We have no time for each other. Everybody is in such a terrible rush, and so anxious and in the home begins the disruption of the peace of the world.
-Mother Teresa

Is this not a perfect quote to go with the blog. Mother Theresa believed in Simple Pleasures.

Yes, I certainly appreciate an ordinary day. The simple act of going up a couple of stairs or carring my own cup of coffee across the room has taken on new meaning. Thanks for sharing an ordinary day. Stella

that video was very good, Sandie. you are right, it made me cry too. LOL, watched it just before I started working for the day and I was a mess for the first 15 minutes as I was thinking about all she said. Very insightful she was; new moms need to get ahold of her book and remember to treasure the ordinary days because the kids do grow up toooo fast!!

Mother Theresa definitely walked the talk, didn't she??

The most wonderful thing about grandchildren is that you get to watch the ordinary days they have with their parents and if the parent's might be missing them, you are not. My grandchildren's ordinary days are the days of our lives now. That was a wonderful video.

Great Video.

As for Mother Theresa I've always been fascinated by her. It seems that her "order" was one of the strictest but hers was the one that most of the young nuns wanted to belong to.

I have some good Video documentaries of her life. She is truly an inspiration!

I love the ordinary days, filled with simply pleasures, away from the chaos and noise of the world.

Mother Teresa was truly inspiring, a kind and tender soul in a rough environment. People are rushed now more than ever these days. I am sure she would have a lot to say about the direction of the world at this moment.

Hope a fabulous Friday. :) Tammy
