Saturday Service Information

Isn't that pretty?

How to get rid of unwanted guests.

Yup! They clean up the plates and then I just wash them regularly. Nothing special. I've never worried about it. However, here's a funny story about this issue...When my husband was a small boy, his mom got tired of relatives showing up every Sunday just as the sat down to dinner and not offering to help, pay or reciprocate...so one Sunday after everyone had finished she picked up the plates, walked over to the screened in porch and dealt them out in from of the eagerly waiting dogs. When the plates were polished, she simply picked them up and put them back in the cabinet without a comment. Relatives never returned! :)

Want to take care of a bee sting - thanks to Debby at Just Breathe,

This information may be something to remember, as this season will soon be here again...

It might be wise to carry a penny in your pocket while working in the yard.......... BEE STINGS !

A couple of weeks ago, I was stung by both a bee and hornet while working in the garden.

My arm swelled up, so I went to the doctor. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine. The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse, so I went to my regular doctor. The arm was Infected and needed an antibiotic. The doctor told me - " The next time you get stung, put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes".

That night, my niece was stung by two bees. I looked at the bite and it had already started to swell. So,
I taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes The next morning, there was no sign of a bite We decided that she just wasn't allergic to the sting.

Soon, I was gardening outside. I got stung again, twice by a hornet on my left hand. I thought, here I go again to the doctor for another antibiotic.

I promptly got my money out and taped two pennies to my bites, then sat and sulked for 15 minutes.
The penny took the string out of the bite immediately.
In the meantime the hornets were attacking, and my friend was stung on the thumb.
Again the penny. The next morning I could only see the spot where the hornet had stung me. No redness, no swelling. My friend's sting was the same; couldn't even tell where she had been stung.

She got stung again a few days later upon her back---cutting the grass!
And the penny worked once again.
Wanted to share this marvelous information in case you experience the same problem. We need to keep a stock of pennies on hand.

The doctor said that the copper in the penny counteracts the bite.

It definitely works!

According to my husband in New York City  you can no longer buy a sugar drink over 16 ounces.  They are going to watch your health for you - per Major Bloomberg.  Now to go along with this - I read in the AARPS magazine that "Higher taxes have discouraged public consumption of whiskey and tobacco.  Now it's sugar's turn. "  The fat tax.  So stay turned it might be coming!  What do you think about a fat tax?

Tick Removal
A nurse discovered a safe, easy way to remove ticks where
They automatically withdraw themselves when you follow her
Simple instructions.  Read this one as it could save you from
Some major problems.

Tick Removal:
Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads.
Here is a good way to get them off you, your children,
Or your pets.  Give it a try.

Please forward to anyone with children, hunters or dogs; Or anyone who
even
steps outside in summer!

A School Nurse has written the info below--good enough
To share--and it really works!

"I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best
Way to remove a tick. This is great because it works in
Those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with
Tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of
Dark hair, etc."
"Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick
With the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few
Seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be
Stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away.
This technique has worked every time I've used it
(and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic
For the patient and easier for me.."

"Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this
Would be damaging in any way.  I even had my doctor's
Wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her
Back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers.  She used
This method and immediately called me back to say,
"It worked!"

Gosh I have honestly forgot who sent this to me - if it was you - let me know!

 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

I know you've heard it a thousand times before. But it's true—hard work pays off. If you want to be good, you have to practice, practice, practice. If you don't love something, then don't do it.”

Again with the penny! First if fixes a droopy flower arrangement, and now a bee stings. I'm learning to have a lot more respect for it.

The tic thing is worth trying. The bee sting thing....well this lady and her friends just need to stay away from these places...geez, I don't know anyone who gets stung so much and have to wonder about this story.

Love that "washing dishes" tale ... can't you just SEE that?
I've not seen ticks in this part of the country, but will sure remember it and share with my piney-woods friends and family.
Hope you're enjoying a great Saturday!

I loved the story about the dishes. LOL I rarely have unexpected company and I don't have a dog. I do know that when I was a child it was not at all unusual for company to drop in at meal time.

I hope you are having a great day Sandie!

All great info there today. I'd heard of the penny and bee sting thing before but never knew anyone who actually tried it. I always have a penny around it seems. But hopefully won't have to find out for myself. Ouch!
Hope your Saturday is a super one!

Happy Saturday Sandie!

I love the dish story. I think when we all cooked regularly, we knew drop ins like those relatives. Now that I am a moody cook {cooking when the mood strikes} drop ins don't bother. ;-)

To be on the safe side, I wouldn't trust either the penny or the soap remedies. According to Snopes and the another urban legend source, neither are accurate.

Now about the soda consumption and idea of a fat tax....Grrrrrr! I could say a lot, but I will sum it up by saying "stay out of my business!" I heard that big buckets of popcorn are likely to be regulated (not allowed) next.

While it won't affect me, I find it ridiculous as many families used to go to the show and buy a bucket that was passed among the adults and kids.

When they, you know "THEY" with the powers that be, let us rule the world, we'll take care of all this pesky stuff.

Until then, I'll keep on keeping on. :-D

Love that story about the freeloading relatives. When I tell my mother about that, she's going to wish we had had more and bigger dogs when we were younger. lol. Great advice for the bee sting and the tick removal.

Love the sting tips too.

I don't need to go anywhere else anymore. Your tips are always very good. The one about the penny - - - it sounds too good. Well I hope no one gets stung, if they do, I am certain to try that tip. Have a good weekend. I think I should blog, I feel a little better now.

Thanks for all the information!

Monica's story reminded me of another, in the same vein. I'll send it along, sometime.

Hope you have a grand weekend.

These are such useful tips and I am particularly going to remember the one about the penny since we have stinging varmints of all types that fly out here. Thanks!

So interesting about the bee sting and the penny! I (almost) kind of look forward to being stung so I can try it out. :)

Love the bee sting and penny info. Better look for old pennies, new one's don't have much copper in them at all! hugs, Linda

Sandy, You are just a "wealth" of good advice. Loved the "clean up" story--too funny. A penny just might be worth something after all if it works on the bee stings. Good to know about the ticks, but I know I would absolutely "freak out" if I had a tick embedded in my skin!!!!! Have a great weekend. Mickie ;)

I hope I can remember these tips for ticks and yellow jackets or wasps. John has already had a round with a tick. It was on the inside of his arm and he didn't know it was there maybe even overnight. He ended up going to the doctor and taking antibiotics and a Lyme Disease test.

The dogs cleaning the dishes is hilarious! lol

I've heard of the penny trick before, but never knew if it really worked, I will have to try that next time!

Ticks, uugh...we are crawling with them living so close to the woods. Pulled one out of Syd's leg last night. We usually end up with upwards of 6 tick bites per season...at first we were scared and would rush to the doctor. Now, it's an old hat and we know to check for them after each trip outside.

LL Cool Joe said...

I'll have to try that with the penny. It's hard to believe it works though! Thanks for the tips!

As long as my grandmother was able she would get up every morning of her life and cook a huge meal. She knew that company would drop in. We always knew there would be food at grandmother's even if we popped in unexpectedly. I would never be convinced that she didn't like it because she always sang while she cooked and she always smiled and she squealed with delight when anyone walked in her front door.

never knew that penny trick, I suppose it would work for our pennies over here. Hope I don't get the chance to try it out though..

Cracked up at the unwanted guests item! that's so clever!

Wow the penny copper in it. Takes down the swelling.Interesting. keep ypur pennies guys. In Canada they soon will be not used.

Our neighbor has wasp's under his uberella for the picinc table up on his high patio. He has it up against his wall on the patio. He said a huge nest. If it had been on the ground or in a tree. One could burn it. Up near the house to carry it.Even to throw it over the balcony another tenant lives there. Not sure or he isnt either. Any tips on that. So far not anyone has got bitten.

The other story about unwanted guests.

I have rubarb but if anyone is not as blessed as loving that. Not buing in the store so expensive. Does anyone suggest how to get some else where? Maybe ask a neighbor if she wants to share her stocks. here people beg you to take from therig garden.

The penny really does work, I got stung trying to clean the birdbath and the bees wanted their water. I guess I was not fast enough with it and I got stung on my hand. I remember reading about the penny so I taped one and the pain went away and swelling.
