Saturday Service to you

COME ON IN. . .

Isn't that a pretty walk way?  And no I borrowed this picture.
COFFEE FILTERS Who knew!

And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for $1.00, even the large ones.

I thought these were great ideas!

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave.
2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome... Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling. 3. Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.
4. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.
5. Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies. Saves on having extra bowls to wash.
6. Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.
7. Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.
9. Use them to sprout seeds. Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a zip-lock plastic bag until they sprout.
9. Use as a disposable "snack bowl" for popcorn, chips, etc.
10. OH YEAH THEY ARE GREAT TO USE IN YOUR COFFEE MAKERS TOO

My sister always keeps me up with her life in California.  She just received some paperwork to fill out everyone who lives in her home.  Kids. Parents. Spouse. Anyone.  Does this sound like anything you have ever heard of before?  I mean isn't that an infringement of her rights?  What are they looking for now? Have you ever had to do that?

A story in Florida - a teacher might be fired for comparing a student to an orangutang.  Click to read.

Yesterday I was supposed to watch Geri while her family worked from 12 - 5.  Just as I was leaving Lisa called and said that they had taken her grandmother Geri off oxygen and that is would probably be soon.  Of course she wanted to be there.  And dear Geri made her passage today around 4pm - very peacefully and very gracefully.

Geri and my daughter at her 90th birthday party - she  was 91 and a half.

I love coffee filters and use them for many many things :) And now I know how to use them for more things! :)

What a beautiful woman Geri was. She is in no more pain and at peace now.

And that teacher? That was incredibly poor judgement and very unprofessional. I am a teacher myself and there is no way I would put something as hurtful as that on the very public internet.

Geri is walking with our Lord now and seeing things we cant even imagine. Eye has not seen nor ear heard...
Prayers for the family at this time.

I did not know that about coffee filters...interesting. I want a walkway like that too.

I'm sad to hear of your friends passing. 91 and a half years old was a wonderful long life. The papers your sister has sound like part of the census. We had that here earlier in the year. It was from the government though and I'd make sure it was official before sending it back. I thought everyone got it at the same time. It's sad how careful we have to be about all that but too many people want our info that shouldn't.

RIP Geri and peaceful prayers of comfort to those who loved her.

I wonder what those blue bottles (assuming they were recycled items) contained originally?

The seat belt video was nicely done.

No idea about your sister's questionnaire. I wouldn't be filling it out unless I understood and agreed to it being for good reason.

As for the teacher...she should have known better. That was a cruel thing to put in print. Any of the kids in her class (or their parents) with access to her FB account might have wondered if she meant them. Adding initials for another reader's benefit certainly narrowed down the possibilities.

I'm not going to say that I've never made a disparaging comment in exasperation, or even as an attempt at humor, but not in print or said to someone who would repeat it where another's feelings were hurt.

Great quote on the storm...sorry for your loss...

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.
Many, many years ago, I rented a duplex within the city limits. Like your sister, I had to fill out a questionaire. I think it had something to do with city laws and fire codes. Only 1 person per so many square feet was allowed to reside within any dwelling within the city limits.

Geri was a beautiful woman, lovely to know she passed so comfortably and that she is at peace.
I have never heard of that questionnaire, those kind of things always make me uneasy now,
such a beautiful quote,

what a beautiful picture of geri...

i printed out the coffee filter thing, that's a great one!!

I like the idea of the coffee filter as a snack bowl. My oldest is always dragging out bowls for popcorn it would seem the filter would work for that.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Thank you for the coffee filter tips.

I will never look at a coffee filter the same:) Great tips....

So sorry to learn that Geri has died. She seemed like such a wonderful person.

Coffee filter. Filter made out of coffee. Fascinating. How do I use it in my tea pot?

Personal information questionnaire. Is that anything like a meme?

This is Bear's "second think of the morning." Perhaps I should go back to bed and start over, later on.

Oh Sandie - Thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and with Geri's family. It sounds like Geri was blessed to have such a loving family and loving friends. She will continue to live on in your hearts and memories and I hope this will be a celebration of her life for all those who attend!

Love your information about the coffee filters. Never thought of all those uses!!
God Bless!

Good Morning Miz Sandie...I like the blue glass walk-way very whimsical...and who knew? coffee filters are that versatile. I may have to borrow the storm quote...very true!

Hope your day is Simple and Blessed!♥

I pray for the repose of Geri's soul. She was very blessed to have loving people in her life.
Is your sister filling out a census form maybe?
Love those coffee filter tips.

I think when your time is up that that is the way anyone would want to go, peacefully and with grace. 91 is a great age to be.

Angela said...

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Sandie. She's now in the arms of Jesus! Walking the streets of gold and wearing her crown with lots of beautiful jewels that are real!

I've never thought of all of those different uses for coffee filters. I use them for tea. I've seen people make crafts out of them too!

I wonder if it is the Census stuff they sent your sister but it isn't that time of year. I did get something that was a book of questions that waned to know everything from whether we went to college and even how much money we made! That was a few years ago. I've not gotten once since but they did keep sending stuff saying I had to fill it out. Did I?

Hugs,
Angela

Coffee filters are full of good uses! Thank you. blessings ~ tanna

The only two uses I have not tried are the seedling sprouter and the nail polish remover ... otherwise, I've got it covered! Nice, nice post ... I love the serenity of the prayer place.

Betsy Banks Adams said...

Hi Sandie, Isn't that great about all of the uses of coffee filters? AND--to think, they are still CHEAP.... ha

Sorry about Geri's death. What a beautiful lady. My Mom died at the age of 91. I'll pray for the family --and her friends.

California is its own little world out there... It really should be its own country... I love the scenery there, but you couldn't pay me a million dollars to want to live there. It probably won't be long 'til the entire state goes bankrupt and we taxpayers will have to bail them out... Grrrrrrrr.

Love the words about the storm. The last sentence is so true: when we come out of a storm, we won't be the same person who walked in..

Hugs,
Betsy

Sending sympathy to Geri's family and friends. She looks like a lovely, sweet woman.

Who ever knew there were so many uses for coffee filters? And the seatbelt thingie touched home.

You have a wonderful Saturday, Sandie. Any plans?

It sounds like Geri had a peaceful passage, surrounded by love.
Thank you for the seatbelt video - I'm passing it along.

Mevely317 said...

That seat-belt video just gave me goosebumps! Great message, and so wonderfully done.

OK - I'm always looking for ways to save $$$ (not that I always act on them - lol). SO I've added the Dollar Store to today's agenda. Thanks!

The Boston Lady said...

Could it have been a census of some sort? CA does some strange things - guess I will find out for myself soon enough.

I loved that video - so important. My grandparents died in an auto accident because they didn't bother to put on their seatbelts. It's always been a must in our family.

Sorry to hear of the passing of your dear friend, Geri. But its a blessing she went so peacefully surrounded by love.

Have a good weekend!

That was a powerful seat belt video. Thanks, I sometimes forget.
I am so sorry your friend has passed but she was not alone and is now at peace. Prayers for those whose hearts are hurting.

Hi there. That was such fantastic information about the coffee filters. I just never knew! I am glad that your friend's passing was peaceful and that she wasn't alone. We have to complete a form every couple of years to let the local Council know exactly who lives in our home. It is for the Electoral Register, so that these people will get a voting card at Election time. Hope your weekend is going well.

Debbie Jones said...

I am not a coffee drinker therefore have never purchased the filters for coffee makers, but wow, they do have a lot of uses I had never thought of! I may get some when I go to the dollar store later today. I don't know why your sister is having to fill out forms about who lives with her. Who sent out the forms? State government? Feds? Very interesting since it is not a census year. Wonder if it has something to do with the healthcare reform. Let your readers know what you find out.

Such nice pictures of the walkway and your friend and daughter.

God bless Geri's family, and all of you who knew and loved her.

I can't imagine the paperwork your sister has to fill out, but if I were her I'd check thoroughly before sending it out.

Pretty walkway. I'm sorry about your friend. It's nice that her passing was a peaceful one, but it is always sad to lose a friend. So thankful we can know we will see them again one day.

Not very smart of that teacher. Hope the child never hears what was said.

And I just gave away all my coffee filters last week that were taking up space in the cabinet. :-(

I am glad your friend Geri went peacefully and gracefully...she sounded like a wonderful lady.I have used coffee filters before and a few of them are on your list...my problem is keep forgetting to use them. They also come in handy when toddlers are eating a Popsicle ...just cut a little slit in the center of the filter and slide it up the bottom of the Popsicle stick to catch dripping.:)

SWEET, helpful as always. The video is a TEACHER for sure.

Also sending love and hugs from here!!!!!

Sounds like you lost a very dear friend, Sandie. I am sorry for your loss.

I have been to a funeral today (Saturday) for a dear friend of mine. He was younger, 82.

Perhaps your sister is getting paid for that info. Like a TV show of people's day.

I have worn a seat belt since 1952. That was back when you had to buy them from an auto parts place because the manufacturers didn't put them in that early.

So sorry to hear of your friend's passing but at least she went peacefully.

Great tips for the coffee filters. I used them for packing my china the last time we moved.

I've never heard of the kind of paperwork your sister received. I would be checking to make sure it is legitimate.

Ann said...

So sorry to hear about your friend. My sincere condolences to you and her family

Another thing you can use coffee filters for is to cover/protect your shoes if you're doing a messy job. Tuck one edge under the end of the tongue and pull the rest down over your shoe.

Great post Chatty! What a great way to get us non-coffee drinkers to buy coffee filters : ) Sorry to hear about your friend, but from the tone of it, it was time. What a long life she had. I really liked the last quote and am going to print it out. Storms really do make us stronger and MUCH less afraid of the next one.

Have a great week

Rest in peace, Geri. I'm sorry, Sandie, and I am grateful for the news that it was a graceful passing.

I loved this post, and the seatbelt video was AWESOME!

And no. I hadn't heard of that paperwork, and I don't think the gov'nt has the right to do that beyond the census. I wouldn't fill it out if I were she.

But then, I'm sort of a rebel like that.
