Tuesdays Tale

Okay the last day of July and August is coming in.  In GA these are the days that get really hot that we call the dog days of summer.  What about you is it getting cooler where you are or stay hot?

Our dog Disco LOVES to ride in the car because he thinks and he is a part of the family - the problems is that it is too hot to take him anywhere.  And when we go out and he has to stay home he is so sad.  We have taken him to Brewster's Ice Cream - they give dogs their own little vanilla scoop  with a dog bone - but how many times can you do that before the ice cream packs on the pounds???
So hopefully in another month he will be able to hop in the car and ride again.

One thing important is knowing the signs oh heat exhaustion for our pets!  (And children).

Now you think we would know better, but sometimes animals know more then people!

So stay cool and keep your pets and kids cool too!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

There have been days this summer when I felt like that popcorn.

Our July has been worse than most of our Augusts are. Hot hot hot. We'll see what the new month brings. Most of us are looking forward to some cooler fall days at this point. Hope your Tuesday is a terrific one!

its been too hot here as well, not as hot as your heat but for us too hot, we aren't used to this heat, have a super duper day!!!!!

and i believe some animals make better PEOPLE than people do. thanks for sharing this about the pets and heat. it is really dangerous for animals, they can't handle it like we can. lots of water is very important, they don't have sweat glands and the saliva and panting is there sweat and that means they need more water.

Hard to imagine that it will get even hotter here than it's been so far this summer. I thought June was hot, but July was absolutely horrible!

I like your thought for the day ... if we begin each day with a grateful heart, imagine what the rest of our day will be like. ;-)

We've hardly been above 70 here, but I'm not complaining! We take our Rory most places, but at this time of year we never leave him in the car - even at this low temp, with the sun shining, the temp in the car soars. He still runs to the door when he hears the keys jingling though.

Debbie said...

The corn looks a whole lot like our grass. My husband planted a few new bushes and plants at the beginning of Spring. They're all burned up. But as you suggested... start every day with gratitude. We have shelter and AC. So we have a lot to be grateful for!

It's hotter than the devil's armpit here with no rain. Ugh. Hopefully better days are coming soon for all of us~

Yay, i'm getting here early to say Good Morning Sweetie!

Loved the doggie advice. Mine needs another shaving at the groomers but I am so busy, busy, busy! We keep plenty water available for Duchess.

my reply will be by tomorrow for SURE! Going to a jewelry party at my oldest daughters tonight and two dr appointments for family peeps today. .... whew.

Starting to cool down here in the high country....mid 80's during the day and60's at night....A/C is off..!!

Ugh! That woman with the baby makes me crazy! Love the popcorn!

...don't get me started on parents these days. It boggles my mind is all I'm gonna say.

I saw dozens of woodpeckers where we went walking yesterday, and I always associate woodpeckers with Autumn, 'cause that's when they'd flock to our yard when we lived in Colorado...can I only hope? NOT!!

We are still very hot (110) and getting hotter. Good pet tips.

It will stay hot here through August, but at least the temps cool down at night. Like Disco, Dodger just doesn't understand being left home so much in the summer. There can't be too many reminders about how dangerous a hot car is for a dog.

Beth said...

It says hot here through August and mid September. Then we might get a few cool days. I have seen frost in September and snow in May, both unusual happenings.

We love the picture of the Dachshund with the hotdog suit~~~!!!!!!!

Always love the quotes and catch phrases. I think sometimes they help me over a small (or large) bump in the road. So easy for the mind to wrap around and save for just the right moment.
'BEGIN EACH DAY WITH A GRATEFUL HEART'

Love the English Bull in the ice!!!

It really has been too hot to get out much. Charlie being a cat isn't much for riding in the car...lol! Oh Brewsters....yum!!! Hugs, Linda

It will be a long time before it cools down here. I would like to get a hold of that woman holding that child upside down.

I almost wrote about heat and sunbathing today with a very similar popcorn cartoon!

What a sweet photo of the gorillas, but how sad that humans often don't have that instinct with their children.

POOR Disco. Hopefully things will turn around in the car and he can enjoy his rides out with you again.

i've always liked that popcorn one. :)

It's always good to remind people not to leave their kids and pets in the car with it is hot out. Amazing to me that there are those who do it without thinking. But there are all kinds in this world, for sure. Love that bulldog in the ice. Lucky dog!

I'll bet Disco looks cute eating that ice cream!

Chatty -
Yep - it is dog days here, too. We can't take Holly out much at all. It was about 100 here yesterday and is supposed to be that hot most of the week.

Oh, well .... :)

Arkansas Patti said...

Ha, I can really relate to popped corn.
Mighty regulates himself in these 100 plus days. He does his stuff in a hurry and barks to come in.

It's been an incredibly hot and humid summer here and we still have August to go--which is usually hot and humid. I'm longing for December!

Hot for us here as well. My daughter and family is loving it. Of course a boat and then into the water for the last week of their vacation. Last year it rainned all her vacation so they are happy as a lark in the heat.

Us oldies here. Come on Fall.
It has rainned finally but they say two weeks of heat and rain inbetween. We are waiting at least three weeks of the first rain that was promised. Promised by who? Really. The weatherman. You have to be kidding.

Love your Wed blogs.

Thanks Sandie.

It has been a terribly hot summer! Harriet loves an ice cream treat from Bruster's, too!

I never understand why I see dogs in cars and the windows maybe cracked open! Poor animals. It's still normal up here in PA. Normal being high in the 80s and then into the 90s. The past few days have been nice enough not to need the A/C on during the day, but we need it on at night. Oh well. I'm sure it'll be even hotter in a few weeks. Enjoy your day!

HOT..HOT....HOT and we are suppose to have a unseasonably warm fall...love the pop corn cartoon. :)

Adorable pic of Disco lying in the ice! That sure is one way to COOL OFF!

Thanks for the tips on heat exhaustion...good to know.

Izzy lies flat on her belly like a dog rug to cool off...I have three bowls of water (with ice cubes in it) for her to drink during the day....

Stay cool!

Rob-bear said...

That is one cool dog you've got in your top picture. It's good that you shared the heat wisdom. An overheated dog is not a happy critter.

Hi Sandie. We're in the mid 90's at the moment but Saturday will be triple digits, the first of the summer so we can't complain much. I am so looking forward to the autumn's colors and cooler weather.

Miss Debbie said...

Plenty hot here and humid...ugh!

Ann said...

Around here August is still pretty warm.

SquirrelQueen said...

Our summer has been relatively mild so far this year but it's still getting into the 90s. Dogs, cats and all pets can get heat exhaustion. I keep bowls of water outside (most of my cats are half wild) and make sure they are refilled throughout the day. I sometimes see squirrels, possums and the raccoons coming for a cool drink.

Someone needs to turn that lady upside down and see how she likes it!!!

The popcorn made us all LOL! The woman with the baby irritates me!

Starting Over, Accepting Changes - Maybe said...

Summer is always hot, maybe they should have called it Sunner.

In NJ, and maybe soon PA, dogs will have to be in a doggie seat belts due to too many accidents. You can be fined if you do not comply. Cats must be in cages and hooked up to a seat belt also. No more Fido out the window.

Love the pic of the dog on ice!

It's in the 80's here - a great relief from the 100's.

Disco is one lucky pooch! I don't think there is a place around here that would give Jazz ice cream.

I've felt like that popcorn the past few days! lol

Good of you to post the animal info, sadly a lot people don't pay close enough attention when it's this hot out.

Betsy Banks Adams said...

Hi Sandie, Smart to post that info about pets in summer... Some humans don't know what they put their animals through in the hot summers. I hate to see pets AND kids in hot cars in summer... GADS!!!

Wonderful thought for the day.

Betsy

What a nice ice cream shop...
....our dog, Casey makes me feel terrible when I leave without her, she wants by my side all the time. I agree, it's too hot..

We kind of have the same thing year round. Not hot here, just wet at times :) Hope you're having a great day!

valerietilsten59.blogspot.com said...

Poor Disco.. He is however a lucky dog, to be able to go with you and have an ice cream with a bone..that is so cute..that shop should get an award. Here dogs are not allowed in shops or cafe's..
Its 40º here at the moment..yesterday the weatherman said the temp might go down..but July and August are the hottest months in portugal..
My dog jeffrey loves ice cream..we sit and eat it together.
Have a great wednesday Sandie, I love your grandma photo..

Hi Sandie.....I hate to see animals in cars with the windows cracked open a bit....their little faces looking out, seeking their owners. That is just not fair.

And the woman holding the baby upsidedown? If I had been there, I would have called the authorities FAST. That was abusive and simply inexcusable. Babies rely on adults to love and nurture them, not treat them like a sack of wet cement. As a strong child advocate, seeing that was beyond infuriating.

Hope your day is awesome. Susan

Sandie I love stopping by! Good info about dogs! I just hate seeing them locked in cars in this heat wave we have had for the entire Spring and Summer! Our pets are spoiled. In fact, Rose the cat is cooling herself downstairs. It is naturally cooler there and she is sitting on a chair in front of the fan! Ha Ha! Smart kitty!
