Some helpful information...

Please note I am only sending you information - whether it is true or not you will have to decide for yourself!  lol

What it tests for: Osteoarthritis, and other things. . . .
How to do it: Hold your hands flat and look closely at the lengths of your fingers in relation to each other. Is your index finger shorter than your ring finger?
What it means: A recent study at the University of Nottingham in England found that if a woman's index finger is shorter than her ring finger, she's more than twice as likely as others to develop osteoarthritis of the knee or hip. There's no scientific explanation yet for the connection between finger size and arthritis risk.
Several other studies have found another use for finger measurement: It can be used to guess at penis size. According to studies done in South Korea, if a man's ring finger is significantly longer than his index finger, he's likely to be well endowed, while a short ring finger indicates average to below-average size. Previous studies have shown that a long index finger is an indication of lower testosterone exposure in the womb.  Monica at The Chicken Wrangler.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S *
Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *
Ask the person to TALK and
SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today.)
R *
Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to
'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other
that is also an indication of a stroke.
Thank you Sharon

I don't know if these work or not - by my cousin sent them to me and you can check them out and let me know:
Did you know that drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately-without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional pain relievers?
Did you know that Colgate Toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns?
Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.. Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 tablespoon horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil for instant relief for aching muscles. Sore throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day The vinegar kills the bacteria. Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer. Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly-even though the product was never advertised for this use. Honey remedy for skin blemishes...... Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a Band-Aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing...works overnight. Listerine therapy for toenail fungus: Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again. Easy eyeglass protection... To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear Nail Polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them. Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer... If menacing bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets get in your home and you can't find the insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409.. Insects drop to the ground instantly.
Smart splinter remover: Just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue-All over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue. Hunt's Tomato Paste boil cure.. Cover the boil with Hunt's Tomato Paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.
Balm for broken blisters... To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine, a powerful antiseptic.. Vinegar to heal bruises... Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds up the healing process.. Quaker Oats for fast pain relief.... it's not for breakfast anymore! Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.
Thank you Jeannie

Thank you Kelly.
My favorite is Einstein's.

Think about this:

When you want to cook a frog drop him in cold water and slowly turn up the heat. He won't jump out because he won't be aware that he's being cooked.
Thank you Nikki from Eye of Deception.

This is from Wikipedia:
" The boiling frog story is a widespread anecdote describing a frog slowly being boiled alive. The premise is that if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death. The story is often used as a metaphor for the inability of people to react to significant changes that occur gradually. According to contemporary biologists the premise of the story is not literally true; a frog submerged and gradually heated will jump out. However, some 19th-century experiments suggested that the underlying premise is true, provided the heating is sufficiently gradual."

Great post. My index finger is longer than my ring finger and I have significant arthritis in my hip. So wish this was true for me. Love the quotes and especially liking the one from Shakespeare. Hope you're having a great weekend!

SquirrelQueen said...

I don't know about the rest of the hints but the one for Altoids works. I always have a box of those on hand.
Did you know Colgate toothpaste (the plain white stuff) works great as spackle? When I was in college we used to use it to fill in nail holes when moving out of the dorm. LOL!

You certainly gleaned a lot of info for us there. Good thing to know that my index finger is longer than my ring finger. I've never had to boil a frog though and don't plan on it for sure. That one brought out the smiles here...Hope you have a great Saturday.

I had to skip and couldn't read the boiling frog story.
I laughed and laughed at the story on penis length according to the fingers....... I heard that years ago.... lol!

My index and ring finger are the same length, that sounds good to me..

Your site is awesome. Looks great! Thank you for being an awesome blogger gal!!!!!

OK so I checked and my index finger is slightly shorter than my ring finger. Then it said osteoarthritis in the knee and hip and I thought about how my knees and hip are always hurting me. Hmmm. Well at least I'm not a frog that someone is trying to boil alive

Dear me, now I am going to have to carefully avoid looking at anyone's fingers for several reasons!

As for the Listerine, shoot, that stuff could clean out drains, so why not a blister!

I just emailed my sister that Alka Seltzer cure - she is plagued by UTIs.

I don't like to think of a frog being boiled alive.

Such an interesting post, Sandie! I had never heard of the osteoarthritis thing. The boiling frog story reminds me of us Americans who are having our wealth stolen from us by inflation - from the Federal Reserve printing more and more money out of nothing, putting it into the system, and then we wonder why our dollar doesn't buy as much as it used to. Little by little.

Hi Sandie....Oh NOOOOO, am I really due for osteoporosis? My index fingers are smaller than the ring fingers. Oh dear.

I'm with Ghandi, too. It takes a very mature and loving person to forgive.

As for the frog, that sure can be applied to gaining weight. Little by little, without even noticing, BAM! Then the clothes don't fit. Yikes! Ribbit ribbit ribbit.

Hope you are having a super good Sunday.

Susan

thanks for the tips...I think they are worth trying before we spend all kinds if time and $!

The Boston Lady said...

I've used the glue and splinter remedy and it truly works. My fingers are even and I have arthritis in my hands, knees and back. So, don't know what that means. I like Ghandi's quote the best because it is certainly true - it takes great strength to forgive, much easier to let it fester, but when you forgive ultimately you are giving a gift to yourself. Ann

Such a plethora of interesting stuff today Sandie. This could have been a whole week of blogging!

Great stuff! I loved the Ghandi quote the most. My fingers say I will have arthritis. I love oatmeal masks for my face, I never thought about it for my hands if they have arthritis. I've heard oatmeal is the healthiest food in the world. God bless!

Hi Sandie,
You are providing lots of information today.
The food for thoughts are great.
Ghandi is one of the best...
Thank you for visiting my sites, my dear friend, Sandie!
What you said about the poor frog made me sad. I would never do it to anyone.
Take care, sweetheart.
Warm Hugs,

I should try the Gatorade. I think I tasted Gatorade a million years ago (when it was made with real gators *wink*) and didn't like it, but if it helped with headaches, I could get used to it.

Love the quotes and yesterday's jokes too. I'm behind on getting around blogland.

Tricia Buice said...

All great information - and some pretty funny stuff. Great way to start the day - thanks Sandie :) Maybe if "a" husband has a long index finger "one" wouldn't have to worry about headaches :)

Cheryl @ TFD said...

Great tips, Sandie! I'm thinking my hurting hips and the longer ring finger thing is true. I won't say about hubby's ring finger...ha ha!!

I had a great vacation, but glad to be home and catching up on my blog friends! Have a wonderful day!

Dee said...

My ring finger on my right hand is the same length as my index finger. On my left the ring finger is longer than the index finger. Must be the polio :) I have never believed the frog story...I think home remedies have a lot of merit to them and do not cost an arm and a leg. Thanks for taking the time to share all of them with us.

Jim said...

Thank you Sandie ~~ I checked my finger lenghts and found my ring finger is growing or my index finger is shrinking. They are growing crooked, that is for sure.

I do have ostearthritis in my knees and other places. I also have osteopenia which isn't related (I think).
