Monday Meanderings

GOOD MONDAY MORNING TO YOU!

One thing I did was change the coconut oil contest from picking today to picking on Wednesday and I'll tell you on Thursday who the winner is and run my last contest that I have going.

Did you get your taxes in?  They are due in today!!!

We rented Life of Pi this weekend  - which I thought was good, but not great.  To me something was missing - what did you think?

I also got an IPhone 4 - for free from Sprint - I was panicked at first, but feel much better now and the booster they sent works great.

Enjoy - read what interests you and forget the rest.

OKAY DOES ANYONE LIKE PEANUT BUTTER?

I love peanut butter and here are some recipes I found:

http://www.prevention.com/food/cook/peanut-butter-recipes?cm_mmc=400-Calorie-_-CELLID-_-04112013-_-25-amazing-peanut-butter-recipes-text

I mentioned this last week about catfish - but I forgot to put the video on there - I think it's interesting myself. Thanks Monica

Catfish, anyone???

This method for cooking loads of corn on the cob perfectly.  Thanks Jerry-asthecrackerheadcrumbles

I was hipped to it while visiting my family in Maine.
Short story: We like corn on the cob. And with eight adults at the table, that means a couple of dozen ears. We would have used the lobster pot to cook them all, but the lobster pot was busy steaming lobster.
Then my sister, a capable Maine cook with years of camping experience, says, "Let's do cooler corn!"
Before I can ask, "What the hell is cooler corn?" a Coleman cooler appears from the garage, is wiped clean, then filled with the shucked ears.
Next, two kettles-full of boiling water are poured over the corn and the top closed.

Then nothing.

When we sat down to dinner 30 minutes later and opened it, the corn was perfectly cooked.
My mind was blown.
And I'm told that the corn will remain at the perfect level of *doneness* for a couple of hours.

Turns out, Cooler Corn is pretty well known among the outdoorsy set.
But for those of us who avoid tents as much as possible, it's perfect for large barbecues and way less of mess than grilling.
I know we will all be eating lots of corn soon!

In the future, when the 'net' is a  bit slow... think of this ... watch to the end !!  THIS WILL S H O C K  you!!!!!!!!!

 Thank you Debby Just Breathe

A young lady confidently walked around the room while leading and explaining stress management to an audience with a raised glass of water. Everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate question, 'half empty or half full?'... She fooled them all .... "How heavy is this glass of water?" she inquired with a smile.
Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. To 20 oz.

She replied , "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it.
"If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.

"If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. In each case it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes." She continued, "and that's the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on."

As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden - holding stress longer and better each time practiced.

So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down.
Don't carry them through the evening and into the night... Pick them up tomorrow.

1 * Accept the fact that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue!

2 * Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

3 * Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

4 * Drive carefully... It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.

5 * If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

6 * If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

7 * It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

8 * Never buy a car you can't push.

9 * Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.

10 **** Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
[dedicated to all shag snobs!]

11 * Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.

12 * The second mouse gets the cheese.

13 *  When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

14 **** Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

16 * ***Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.

17 * We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

18 * A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

19 * Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY

20 *Save the earth..... It's the only planet with chocolate!*
Thank you Jean!

All I can think about is wouldn't the boiling water harm the cooler? It sounds like a great way to handle the masses. Will have to come back to slowly digest all of this great post. Can't wait to enjoy each segment. Kids may say the darnedest things, but so does Chatty Crone:)

The the cooler corn. I didn't know this either. Awesome.

Yes the taxes have been done for about two weeks and were sent in last week along with our checks. Bugger.

I loved the Internet video. That's an awful lot of travel for taking only about a second. Amazing.

Have a fabulous day. :)

Good Monday Morning to you, Sandie!!
Your Monday Morning post was good too!!!

I like the idea of 'cooler corn' but I suppose a few coolers have cracked with the hot water. I don't eat corn anymore, doc's orders upon getting old.

Your list is good. Right now I am the statue with a neighbor. I've loaned three people $50 (one more, he came in the late night hours, we still see him now and then) and your are right. One of those was a preacher.

wow, you have so much in this post I learn so much from you!! You also make me smile and make me think more, the cooler corn sounds great butvmy only concern is, the plastic of the cooler may notbe meant for heating and chemicals may leach out, we had a neighbor who became ill from heating foods in a margerine dish, I'm a little nervous now, it recked my friends liver!

Hi Sandie. You posted lots of interesting things here. I can hardly wait to make cooler corn. I love corn and can't think of an easier way to make it, especially with the weather warming up. My son will love this idea. You also listed some great food for thought here, much of what I'll be passing on to others. Take care. Have an awesome day.

always so much information Sandie!!
My favorite is catfish - but only "real" catfish, caught from a local river. So I rarely get to eat it.
Life of Pi- A LOT of symbolism. The only way he could live was to use the animals for the people. The island was also symbolical and not real---too deep!
LOVE candy corn on the cob - sooo sweet. Great idea for cooking a batch of it at one time!
Have a great week! xoxo

Many things here so I have bookmarked it to keep track. iphone for you? wow. I was going to get one, but it was too little. It was smaller than my old droid so I am very happy with this GS III.

The planet Geezer was a bit creepy, ya?

I had a dream about you last night along with 2 other blog buds. I am posting about it tomorrow, so heads up, girlfriend! hahahahaha.

My mom cooked the best horn pout ever. Those are little cat fish up here in the northeast. My dad could skin them faster than anyone ever seen. My mom, she flowered them and salt and peppered them an into the criscoed cast iron skillet they went. I havent had them in years and you made me think of them. Oh yummmm... No one fishes in my family so this is a treat I probably wont have again. DANG!!! Didnt watch the cat fish do hickey as I could not ruin this wonderful memory, lol....

Cooler corn looks neat. I just wish it wasn't in plastic. I would be leary about that. Too bad the coolers aren't stainless steel. ;-)

And yuk to those nasty fish. Buy your fish from the South instead.

Big hugs,

Sheila

P.S. We also watched "Life of Pi" and loved it!

I went over to the peanut butter site and, would you believe, I got quite distracted reading all about peanut butter. The bunny pic is cute. And the cooler corn is cool. I would have thought at boiling water would damage the inside of a cooler. Who knew??

Such a great post today! Loved hearing your report on the cooler corn because I have seen it so much! Yes, we got our taxes in. Here in PA you have to pay on top of everything else, a one percent tax on your total income. Crazy! And I still can't figure it out. Hope you had a nice day!

Cooler corn is NOT a good idea as ice coolers are made of plastic, which can leak potentially dangerous chemicals when hot. Just like you would not microwave in a plastic container (unless marked microwave safe), you should not use an ice chest which has been built specifically for ice.
