Wednesday Hodgepodge

The winner of the Target gift card - I am waiting for Renae to get back to me, but I will post it here later and on tomorrow's post.

Hodgepodge Questions-Vol 132

Here are the questions to this week's Hodgepodge.  Answer on your own blog, then be sure to hop back to 'From This Side of the Pond' - click here - to add your link to the party.

The more the merrier!

1. What's something people might ask you for help with?
Well right now a friend of mine has asked me for help with their blog.  The Google+ part.  She didn't like it and wanted it removed.  I said, " I can do that."  (I had just taken it off mine.)  WHY DON'T I KEEP MY BIG MOUTH SHUT?  I got her Google+ off BUT now she can't comment.  NOW I AM TRYING TO HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I FEEL TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I HAVE A BIG MOUTH!

2. What's something you might ask someone else for help with?
Anyone know how to take off/disable Google+ comments - make them separate from Google comments - some how they are joined together at the hip!!!
3.  Did your family take summer vacations when you were a child? If so, where did you go? If you're a parent, did/do you plan summer vacations with your own family? Did/do they resemble those you took as a child?
Yes, my dad worked for Greyhound, Inc.  He would put us on the bus and my mom, brother, and I would mostly go to Indiana where the relatives lived. Once we went to New York for Christmas to see my dad who was their working - we ate dinner in the automate.  Any one remember those? Once he put my brother who was 18 and I was 11 - on a bus to the New York World's Fair for two weeks.  We went all over that area.  My poor brother.  I was such a sad mess.  Once in awhile we would go on a vacation together like the beach or once to Europe (my mom worked for United).
Now with my kids I hope the vacations were somewhat better.  We tried to go every weekend to a day trip while growing up - like the zoo or a museum.  We went somewhere every summer and we went and visited family while we still had them.  It was my believe that family vacations were important and that the kids who were brought to all these places and got to experience of seeing different the sites like we did - received another type of education.
Now both my kids take their children on vacation - my daughter and grandson are in Cancun.  Grandson has been swimming with the Manatees and got three kisses.  And he did some great bargaining for a chess set - they were impressed.
My son has taken his two year old camping already!  lol

4.   Pool-lake-ocean...which one is most appealing to you on a hot summer day?
Okay this is my dream with money as no object - I would like to be by the ocean - in a villa.  The resort would have a pool as well.   There would be a bar in the pool where you swim up to and you can sit upon a big rock and have a drink.  There is a Jacuzzi of course.   Then go to the ocean - snorkel a bit.  Lay on the beach in nice lawn chairs with umbrellas.  There are nice outside showers with warm water to get the sand off so you can go back to the pool for a dip.  Then you can sit in a cabana big enough for two or three - has a canape over it - and lunch is served poolside.  There is a wonderful breeze that cools you off just right.  And there are lush plants and flowers all around.  It's warm, but not really HOT!  lol  There might even be a lake around there!

5.  Have you ever justified using the expression, 'you gotta be cruel to be kind'?  Was it really necessary or were you rationalizing?
I have never heard that particular wordage, but I know what it means.  Kind of like tough love.  I think I have an extremely hard time being tough.  That is probably one of my many flaws.  I think to be honest  - I would have been a better mother had I said no more often (grandma too) and more yeses to myself.  I am a softy.  Now because of this - I have had to use tough love on myself.  I've had to - this is deep - give up my own needs  - and say well that's tough - you got what you created.  And I have learned to love with that.

6.  The Journal of Psychology recently mentioned the results of a survey identifying the ten most hated foods as-liver, lima beans, mayonnaise, mushrooms, eggs, okra, beets, brussel sprouts, tuna, and gelatin.  Of those foods, how many do you actually hate? Anything you'd add to the list?
I hate liver.  I hate coconut.  I hate strong smelly fish!

7. What's your favorite book or movie set in a beach or lake town?
Summer Vacation with John Candy and The Great Outdoors with John Candy and Dan Ackroyd.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I had never had a lobster.  This week with the kids in Cancun - I got a deal from Carrabba's - $15 for a lobster tail, steak, salad, and a side of pasta  (remember when I told you to sign up for membership at restaurants?) - it was delicious - they had this great lemon butter - yummy!!! So now it's off my bucket list - only problem is -  I like it - I like it - I want some MORE of it!

HA, ha. This time I disagree on one answer. I LOVE LIVER. That IS FUNNY. I do like liver but seldom eat it. Sherry isn't crazy about it either. Daddy liked it so I guess I inherited the taste.

I normally avoid Google and Google+ like the plague. Sorry, I cannot help you with the challenge. The ultimate way of dealing with it is to just put the whole thing in the trash, and be done with it.

J and I spent the first summer after our marriage on an island off the Canadian cost, in the Atlantic Ocean. People there caught lobsters. I've had lots of Lobster to eat. No big deal for this Bear. And very badly over-priced in most restaurants.

Now, about the list of thing that people don't like, I like all of them except okra. And that's only because I've never had okra. I know; I've lived a life of depravation.

Blessings and Bear hugs!

My oldest sister is a punster. I should grab those and email them to her. She would love it. I've got to say that I've never met a vegetable that I didn't like, but mayonnaise and tuna are definitely on my list of things not to eat. Hate them both, although I will eat like ham salad but I prefer not too much mayonnaise. And once someone said to me that you only have to think about the purpose of a liver and you would never eat it again. I quit liver that day.

Okay, can I go with you to your ocean villa? Sounds truly wonderful!

I LOVE this last cute picture and quote! The Google Plus, I do not have a CLUE!!! All I know is... when I get a new follower and click on her, it sometimes will take me to Google Plus and NOT her blog, which I can never find. I do not even know if I am in Google Plus or what the heck it is, but I am NOT messing with it, the world might end! How much more technology can our minds hold anyway, after all, we were made from dust.

they sure has made it all complicated haven't they?! Great answers :) Enjoy your day!

TexWisGirl said...

oh, glad you tried lobster - and even better that you liked it!!! :)

i asked a blog pal how he got rid of google+ comments on his blog and he said it was under the blog dashboard, menu on the sidebar, select google+, then uncheck the box for google+ comments. however, he hadn't disabled his google+ account so it might not work that way for you/your friend.

Ms. A said...

I don't think bloggers realize what they are getting into with Google+. Good luck to the friend you are trying to help!

Betsy Banks Adams said...

Well---I have Google+---but don't subscribe to their comments. I also still use Blogger for my profile... I can check Google+ --but don't do much with it.. I do have followers on Google+--but most of them don't come to my blog. I don't care for it at all. Wish I knew what to tell you...

I cannot remember taking vacations as a child other than to visit family.. And that's not much of a 'vacation' to me. BUT--when I was 16, my parents took me to the beach in Daytona... That was a great trip.

When my sons were growing up, we went to our time share in Arkansas for Christmas every year --for about 10 yrs. I think. It was a great week...

OCEAN by far... Don't care much for pools or lakes.

I guess that is talking about 'tough love'... Sometimes we just have to put down our foot and then stick with that decision... Hopefully, it's for the other person's own good.

I like most of the foods listed. I love LIVER. The two foods I am not crazy about are store-bought tomatoes (love home-grown ones) and okra that is NOT fried... I'm not crazy about raw oysters --and I will not eat sushi.....

Hugs,
Betsy

We also feel vacations are important. My parents took us on a drive out west for three weeks one year. They took us camping at least once a month.
Now we took our children to California, Egypt, Morocco, England and Canada.
My favorite beach movie is Blue Hawaii filmed in 1961. They don't make movies like that any more.

Debbie said...

I love your dream! I think I might dream it too! haha. What you said about vacations was really interesting. I am thinking you are right, and wishing we took more. Hope you enjoyed your day!

Lobster is just about my favorite food. Even picked a lobster restaurant for my birthday dinner and it was so good.

I loved the automat and we ate there just about every time we came to New York when I was growing up. The little baked bean dishes were my favorite.

I love liver when it's cooked right and lobster is wonderful. Glad you got a chance to get some. Hope you had a wonderful Wednesday. It's Thursday morning here and I'm just now catching up.

I realized when I saw someone else's Hodge Podge that you had probably done one and I had missed it. I like the hodge podges because I'm basically nosy by nature.

Note to self: Do not ask Chatty Crone for help with google+.

I loved the puns!

You certainly helped me out with Google Reader and I so appreciate you and your daily posts. You dream big, and I like the way you dream. I have only had lobster once myself and yes, it was delicious.

Eat To Live said...

I am not at all impressed with google +, I think they thought it was going to be the next best thing. I never use it and really don't care to.

Betty said...

You need to go to Cape Cod and have a whole losbster. We used to go there when I was growing up. We each got our own lobster, but I think they're less expensive up there. My mother would melt the butter and cut up the lemons, throw the poor lobsters in a big pot, and then we'd all crack them open and indulge.

Debby@Just Breathe said...

I stay far away from Google+. I never took a Greyhound trip but Mark us to take it back and forth from college and I would pick him up at the station. Sounds like you had some very exciting times/trips! When you buy that villa I am coming to stay with you :) I'm no good at tough love either. Yes those are two awesome movies that I also love. I love lobster, so glad you tried it and liked it. $$$$
