11-21-22 HAVE A BLESSED THANKSGIVING

 A BLESSED THANKSGIVING

What are your Thanksgiving Traditions?

My life as a child was unique.  We did not have a lot of traditions as we were very untraditional.  Maybe that was our tradition.  LOL   My dad traveled all the time.  He was VP of Greyhound - remember Greyhound Buses?  Well sometimes he would put my mom, brother, and I on a bus and send us to Indianapolis which was my parent's hometown. We would have Thanksgiving dinner at my Grandmother Glady's house.  She was the best cook ever.  We had about 20 people there.

Other years he would take us, and we'd go to where he was working. I remember once he took us to New York City and we had dinner at an Automat.  Does anyone know what they are or been at one?  They were big in NYC when I grew up.  Originally, they only took nickles.

Other times we just had a meal at home the four of us.  At that time, we lived in Chicago.

So, we never really had 'traditions' - but I survived - and I still love Thanksgiving.  This year we are driving up to Ohio to visit with my son's family.

What are your traditions?  I love to learn about other traditions too.  What is your favorite food at Thanksgiving?  What is one of the sides you refuse to eat?

I love all the foods at Thanksgiving - I guess my favorite is the candied yams.  My least favorite is the green bean casserole.

What is one food you refuse to eat?  Mine is COCONUT - YUCK.  The little pieces just will not chew and just stay in my mouth!  lol

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all. . .

We, of course, don't have Thanksgiving down this way...but that doesn't stop me from wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving! :)

I happen to love green bean casserole. It's become a tradition to have it for a holiday dinner. We always get together with family. My daughter and her family will be our hosts this year. Her hubby always deep fries their turkey, which has become a tradition for them. And oh my we will have pumpkin pie and whipped cream for dessert. Another Thanksgiving tradition for us. I've never traveled on a bus. I only enjoyed the local bus stops when I was a kid. Then we took them all around town. Now, they don't do that anymore. I guess everyone having a car put them out of business. Hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!

our traditions were the same food for TG every year, that is about it. maybe 4 times in my 19 years at home with parents we had daddys family come to my aunts house next door and there were 30 of us. most of the time just the four of us. I don't eat anything that has onions in it. the sweets were my favorite, all of them. bob and I have eaten out since 2006 when my son moved to tn and before that we had my two sons and their wives over for turkey

Happy Thanksgiving to you too.
I love traditions but I like being with the people I love even more.
Growing up even though I am an only child and there are no relatives around, we always had get togethers with friends that were like family.
Mostly I remember a roast turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie.
I still feel like it must be turkey for Thanksgiving, though this year it will only be a turkey breast. There will just be 6 of us at our house. Son and daughter in law and my caregiving friend and her daughter.
It will be nice but we are missing the grands and their hubbys and our other son that lives in Oregon.

It was nice hearing about your Thanksgiving traditions growing up, Sandie. That's why you don't mind traveling, as you used to travel a lot when you were little. Your Grandmother Glady sounds like a good cook. I hope you have a wonderful time visiting your son and family in Ohio. My favorite foods at Thanksgiving?.....the cranberries, stuffing, pumpkin pie. Oh, I love it all! haha.

Happy Thanksgiving Sandie. I'm thankful for your wonderful blog and your friendship all these years.

Interesting post, Sandie! I always looked forward to Thanksgiving because it meant my parents and I'd go somewhere for the long weekend -- usually a hotel in downtown Denver, even a dude ranch. Neither my parents or I liked turkey, so daddy's only criteria was the ability to order something off the regular menu. Imagine the surprise when I asked my new husband, where are we going for Thanksgiving? Both my former hubby and Tom were pretty good about going out every other year. To your questions? No to turkey, yams, cranberry anything; the only thing I refuse to eat is oyster dressing. This year were having my favorites: smoked brisket, green bean casserole, cornbread stuffing and I forget what else,! Prayers for travel mercies and good times!

FORGET traditions!! Each year was a new adventure fo you!! How fun. I have seen a Greyhound bus recently, and think they may still be around? Maybe the one I saw was non-working?

We always went to my mother's parents. They lived on a farm and she was on amazing cook. And the pies oh the pies! I never heard of green bean casserole until I was long an adult uck I hate it. but I love all the ingredients.
I was never at one of the automats but I have heard of them. You had a much more interesting life growing up than I did. But I loved it anyway
Happy Thanksgiving

My best Thanksgiving memories are when we celebrated at my grandma's house. All the aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins were there. We would have 30 or more. So fun. My cousins were more like siblings. Later, my folks hosted. Not as many but still noisy and fun. I love a houseful for the holidays. This year... just me and the cats, I'm afraid. Covid quarantine. Bah-humbug!! Turkey and cranberries and stuffing!! I don't care for candied sweet potatoes OR green bean casserole. Mash the sweet potatoes with butter and cinnamon and a little brown sugar (no marshmallows). Have a beautiful holiday!! xo

Happy Thanksgiving to you! I love hearing about your childhood and I have always loved Greyhound busses - not that I have ever been on one but I always wanted to!

Our Thanksgiving tradition was always at home, Mama cooking and all of us gathered around the table eating. As we grew up, we would all bring dishes to add on the table. Precious memories❤️ Enjoy your Thanksgiving dear friend, hugs and prayers for safe travels.

Here in the UK, we do not have Thanksgiving ... it's Christmas preparation time at the moment!

Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving.

All the best Jan

Yes, your childhood was not traditional for sure. However it sounds like it was exciting. I've never seen one of those Automat's in person. We would always gather for the holiday's and I believe it was often at our house. I have blocked memories. Stuffing with gravy is a favorite of mine. You sound like Mark, he hates green bean casserole and gets upset with Adam for asking me to make it. Those two photos look yummy. Normally I will do baked sweet potatoes, that's how I like to eat them.
Happy Thanksgiving.
